By mid August the 16th had suffered over 4,200 casualties and the 36th (Ulster) had suffered almost 3,600, or more than 50% of their numbers. Great sacrifices by men of all faiths and none. Kind of blows the myth that only Protestant Irishmen did on the Somme.

Oradour I was reading you comments with interest and I had to laugh at your historic inaccuracy's. First of all there was no such thing as the 42nd Irish division. Your probably thinking of the 16th Irish division who didn't fight in the Somme, but among other skirmishes fought alongside the Ulster men in the battle of Messines the next year. Secondly De Valera wouldn't let churchill use Irish harbours for allied battleships, which could have proved detrimental in the war effort.

More....more of this crap. I thought this was put into the history books. I would long to see the day to look up belfast or Ireland on youtube and would have to flick through a few pages to find videos like this.
