btw, the unemployment rate went down because people stopped looking for jobs and drawing unemployment, so they are no longer counter. The real unemployment rate is closer to 10.3%, with the underemployment rate (including part-timers looking for full time) is closer to 20%)

Which is exactly why the USA is so great! It's constitution mean nobody can be forced to adhere to ANY religion.
And thanks to the 2nd ammendment, the people can shoot any religious (or other typ of) despots who try to force them.

It's true, though. If your unalienable rights aren't given to you by a Creator, then who gives them to you? Government?
Without a belief in a Creator, God or otherwise, any rights you think you have aren't rights, but privileges granted by whomever has the biggest stick.

Take a look at what you said, and you will see that you are not consistent.
You ask rhetorically "who gives [your rights] to you? Government?" As if to mock the very idea that rights are presented by a forceful agency. You drive this point home by saying, "any rights you think you have aren't rights, but privileges granted by whomever has the biggest stick."
But the big irony is that you don't apply this analysis to the idea of a God "giving rights". Is he not carrying the biggest stick?

The free mind would be the difference of where the notion of rights come from. Under pre Darwin and post Darwin thought, the weak are just food for the strong,that includes you and me. The people that believed/believe God made them with inalienable rights went past that thought pattern and taught that people were made to love one another...as silly as it seems, until people actually love one another than they fall back to the latter thought pattern. I'm a Deist. God endowed his rights and gave him reason, and we are to make the most of them.
When we allow the notion that right is dictated by might, then why have a moral code at all? If there are no unalienable rights endowed by a Creator, then all is subjective. That is not the way of a free, civil society.

I dont believe in a "creator" unless I refer to my parents. I do however, believe in the pillars of freedom, the respect for individual rights and property.

I just can't reconcile his appeal to religion, and how the religious people get it, but how us atheists don't. You do not need religion to understand what liberty is.

Read the book. He addresses this and redirects those that have issues with acknowledgment of a God by referring to "natural law" and "moral order".
You're right. You don't have to believe in a creator and Levin's latest is not a religious book.
