the late Mr. Billy HIggins, may he rest in peace, gives this song the most interesting and creative, yet steady, drive that can be heard in 4 dimensions. he's got all 8 cylinders open on this one, but he uses them in the most tasteful way imaginable. this sounds as fresh and exciting today as it did when i first heard it 15 years ago. this music comes as close to transcending time as any that I've heard in the last 50 years. can't beat the groove going here, if you like this style of music.
And tying it all together with the funkiest and finest piano part to come out of a very fine and funky time for those of us who like this kind of jazz, Mr. Harold Mabern, the master of 88 keys. From all of the music to come out of the blue note catalog from this era, and there are hundreds of jewels if not thousands, this song still stands out because of Mr. Mabern's piano playing. the other cats are great, too, but with this one here, Mr. Mabern reached the moon about 4 years before NASA did.
Wayne and Lee together= Very dangerous cats!! Lock up your daughters..These dudes are on the loose! They just seem to inspire one another..Brings something out in Wayne that Miles didn't..I'd call it balls! Very sexy!

Best. Sh*t. Ever. It tears me up when Lee jumps in after Wayne's solo.
