I cannot play the guitar like he does but I can talk like he does on the stage. In other words, he does not sing at all. He just talks like Leonard Cohen. None of them has any voice. Also I find very ugly to break up your group and go solo because that way he doesnt want to share the money with anybody. He will still need the musicians but he ll pay them peanuts as they will not be part of the group. Typically jewish as he is.

yeah i love dire straits and this is an all time favorite but this version seriously is not anything to cheer about. so far, the best one i've heard is the royal albert hall from 96. it's like 14 minutes long and im pretty sure the solo came in from another planet. not sure which one it was though.

Alchemy is great, this version is fantastic but also Mark's version at Royal Albert Hall in 1996 is absolutely worth hearing.

The speed of this playing is unique and I quite love it..

One single song and so many great live versions that match to different moods - awesome!

I would say Knopfler was not influenced by Hendrix. He was influenced by Hank Marvin and the likes.

Hendrix is a fast guitar player, but he is more a showman, I mean, playing a guitar with your teeth only proves you have strong dentures. Angus Young is (used to be) fast, not very technical but fast, but he was more a showman

Hendrix, Angus, T-bone Walker etc were all guitar players before being showmen. This was a means to get attention in a very competitive business. Especially in the early days of guitar playing.. T-bone et al, right up to Hendrix.. They also did it for kicks, being jovial and enjoying showing each other there new antics, tricks etc. Hendrix was sick off showmanship in the end and began to dislike it as it took attention away from why he was there in the first place: To play guitar.. Make music..
