@eleesmith No, Rick Rubin played the guitar on that song. He was the producer for Raising Hell as well. Actually in my opinion, Run-DMC started their downward trajectory when they quit using Eddie Martinez.
@eleesmith No problem. Eddie Martinez is a really underappreciated session guitarist-- he's played on a lot of famous songs. His work for Run-DMC was so great, I think it's some of his best work. I think his sound was key to their success, and no one every talks about him. Rock Box!
thing is, you could do anything to cassette tapes and they'd survive. I have tapes that I've have had for 20 years and they still work just fine. I don't have such high hopes for MP3s.
Kurtis Blow and Run DMC are old school rap...the essence of old school rap...the god fathers of rap all together...I remember when they predicted rap would become mainstream. wild to see music today... I would rather go back to the beginning....today rap is crap...gangster rap was tough and in my opinion is when rap topped out....peace!
@martynpank They both are good. Its just that Whodini is underated. DMC and Jalil were the main writers....Ex and Run were the frontmen. Jive records was cheap and didn't invest in them and wouldn't renegotiate their contract when they got big. Both Profile/Jive screwed both groups. Run-DMC had a stronger visual idenity....Run-DMC was more harder....Respect.
@taylor4660 I am really into Hi Fi. I have a few records, yes, records, that I test my sound system out with. One of these tracks is 'Haunted house of rock'. The dynamics of this track are superb! .......& so clear! Respect back! Have a great xmas. I'm not back on 'til Fri!
Whodini was the first group to use equipment that provided the digital sound. All the music was made in the UK.. I still have the OPEN SESAME tape and played it is still clear! All the new songs that sample their stuff doesn't come close in sound. One Love.
even the bind can see this is a B-A-D J-A-M!

eleesmith 1 year ago
@eleesmith I think he was talking about lead guitar. I'm not sure who that is. I remember a black guy in Rock Box playing guitar. Do you know who?
calstate 1 year ago
@calstate The guitar player is Eddie Martinez. He was their guitar player on the first two albums.
CyrilAndPriscilla 1 year ago
@CyrilAndPriscilla did he also play the lead on the the title track on the 3rd album raising hell?

@eleesmith No, Rick Rubin played the guitar on that song. He was the producer for Raising Hell as well. Actually in my opinion, Run-DMC started their downward trajectory when they quit using Eddie Martinez.

Run DMC sold more records but Whoudini was the greatest rap group ever.

Whodini were dope! But they were no where near RUN DMC!
martynpank 2 years ago
@martynpank Whodini was evenly matched with Run-DMC. Run got the push and Whodidni's label Jive records didn't push them .

@taylor4660 I ain't gonna get into some great debate. Just liking the style is good enough for us not to argue about who is best! Respect.
