With Dark Side of the Rainbow, I didn't really find as many synchronicities, and it seemed a bit far fetched at times, despite all the hype. But I find this to be more synchronistic, and only adds to the acid trip factor.
@ptk78 Hey man, I just wanted to let you know that your sync is actually off by a good 1.5 seconds or so. I've watched this on so many occasions that it's a wonder I still have any brain cells left, but I can tell your sync is off because the visual transition to orange at about 7:59 occurs a good 2 seconds after the song transitions... compare your vid to other uploaders' at the same juncture in the song. And stay roasted. 8)
@jwilky37 I'll try to fix it someday, for my personal use i sync it always this way so then music ends perfectly with the movie and there are some more minor flavors like Gilmour's solo starts when monolith appears, so this is all very subjective i suppose :) Anyway, thanks for the advice :)
Kubrick initially wanted to use Pink Floyd music for 2001, but at the last momment he decided to use Classical music. This song was created for the las sequence of the movie, that is why it fits so well.
@GGart89 no, see thats actually bullshit. this movie came out in 1968 and meddle began recording in 1970. there wasnt even a demo. there are two theories. one, one related to yours, is that that they watched this movie, were amazed, and made a song to sync with it. the more reasonable one is while thinking of songs, Richard Wright played a single note on his keyboard. it was given a special filter, which gave it a swirly noise. they were then inspired to write this
@Slowmojtn I read a biography on Kubrick and he was trying to get Pink Floyd to do a song for the movie. They turned him down. When they saw the movie they instantly regretted it and recorded this song (underwater theme easily replaceable with outterspace). In essence this is the song they would have made for 2001.
@ipunchouthorses underwater and outerspace are two different genres. underwater is admiring the beauty of what you never realized. outer space is discovery and mystery. in short the song has nothing to do with the movie. you focus on the parts that connect, but not the ones that have nothing to do with each other, making it seem perfect. its a song. deal with it.
@gorerotted664: This is a perfect trip without drugs ;) I've been always stunned that Echoes fits so perfect well to 2001, this can't be just by the the accident.
@ptk78 The first time I ever watched 2001:ASO, I paused the DVD to cue up "Echoes" in my iTunes (one of my friends had mentioned this to me). I had watched the whole movie sober and then the ending as well, but it knocked me on my ass nevertheless. I had only smoked at most three times at that point in my life, but I knew right then and there that I had to revisit this again one day......
There's one that most people never notice - some parts of SOYCD work very well with Blade Runner.
