I dont agree with classicalmusic03! the role of tabla was intended only to be a subdued background rhythm support and that is what Rashid khan sahib wanted The thumri is somewhat dependent on his prominent and intricate taans and raag development so the Tabla had to be subdued! but then I am just a listener and Not a music pandit!
