It was Dustin Hoffman's idea to touch Anne Bancroft's right breast. When he did, it sent director Mike Nichols into hysterical laughing (unheard and off-camera). Dustin Hoffman went into the corner to bang his head against the wall to keep himself from laughing with Nichols. Nichols thought it was so hilarious, he decided to keep that scene.
