  • I like that Russ or Riff didn't have to dance ballet like the other guys. He looks so good just walking and jumping about. Still, I love Russ Tamblyn best in Tom Thumb and Peyton Place.

  • The problem with this dance scene is that it just wasn't ambitious enough.

  • Damn nigga, these is some REAL ass thugs. Straight up, yo.

  • هههههههههههههههههههههههههههههه زمان ي فن

  • SO HARDCORE

  • Jeez, it's depressing. But really funny seeing guys dressed as teenagage JDs doing ballet!

  • love how everyone of the Jets at the end pirouette their way into the fight!!!

  • Baby John rocks :)

  • WHERE CAN I LEARN THIS DELAYED SNAP?? DO I NEED TO BE A JEDI?

  • baby john is my favorite (: who loves baby johnn? :D

  • 1:32 Is that Ray William Johnson?

  • Baby-John is my favorite Jet. -3

  • I played Lt. Shrank in my high schools performance of West Side Story. Such fun times.

  • It would be awesome if the modern gangs were all professional dancers

  • I love tough guys who can dance and snap at the same time

  • Wow, they're beautiful dancers for gangsters!

  • West Side Story > The Wanderers

  • w t f did i just watch?.....

  • @Sabockis A classic.

  • I wish real gangsters were like this

  • 2:49 Wow, look at that face.

  • Somehow, it seems so right to dance ballet in the street, if you're a Jet or a Shark though it's only expectable!

  • This is fucking hilarious! Dancing, finger snapping gangsters.

    Was this ever cool?

  • Bernardo is hot!

  • Honestly i think Bernardo is hot

  • @xXprincesstiff96Xx Oh I think so too! :)) Hottest <3

  • LOL i love this movie. I was just watching this in school

  • Bernardo is the best character:) I love him & Anita *****

  • This video is popular on Finland

  • West side Boyz

  • @ 2:49 .... LUV IT!!!

  • Sound is slightly off

  • Ballet and Violence, can this idea be bettered? Am blown away.....

  • Esta pelicula ha marcado toda mi vida desde niño aun sin conocer la pelicula me fascinaba la musica.

  • did he just say 'shit' to Bernardo? so much for the pg rating LOL!

  • HOW CAN ANYONE DISLIKE THIS?!!

  • The SHARKS are better and I love Bernardo

  • @mrgodcow woooo! STARKIDS!!!!!

  • i want to start a gang then run around dancing and have people run away

  • "Out of my way! I'm dancing!"

  • That is an epic dance fight at the end, I hope everyone made it out okay.

  • Am I wrong in saying that purple vest Jet looks EXACTLY like Joey from Friends?

  • Swagg

  • I think this cast had every ballet boy in NYC that could pass for straight. The music for this prologe is Leonard Bernstein at the top of his game, note the use of bongo drums and three xylophones during the chase scene. The same for the exciting, outstanding choreography by Jerome Robbins.

I've been a long time lover of film, and am a complete sponge of film knowledge from the early 1900's to present day. I am becoming more passionnate and eclectic with my taste by the day and would love to chat or get some feedback from you guys.

  • I feel so bad for baby John at the end!! :(

  • I was screaming," RUN BABY JOHN RUUUUNN!!!!"! I like Baby John :D ! At times hes tough, and at other times hes a...what can I say? Baby (no duh, thats how he got his name! I think.)!

  • my brother played in a play

  • There is no way that guy spit that far....no effin way

  • I applaud them all for their synchronized turning and snapping. Well done gentlemen.

  • Tunnel snakes rule!

  • Can you imagine real gangs doing that today? That would be awesome.

  • JETS>SHARKS

  • fighting or dancing ballet ?!

  • damn, is tha Matt LeBlanc? short dude in white undershirt and vest?

  • @MisterAbs003 If not, he now found his look-a-like :P

  • @MisterAbs003 nope.

  • @MisterAbs003 Matt LeBlanc would have been about 6 years old when this film was made, so he's just about young enough for the part, though I see the likeness :)

  • @MisterAbs003 Nopeeee, Matt was not even born then :)

  • @MisterAbs003 It's Tony Mordente.

  • @MisterAbs003 no, no it isnt. but i see where ur coming from..

  • @MisterAbs003 lol i said the same thing, like is that joey ?

  • wow, dancing gangs, what i wouldn't do for them in this generation!

  • they run pretty fast

  • Wow i never realised Joey tribbiani was in the jets!

  • TIME TRAVELERS, theyre wearing some weird variant of skinny jeans....

  • at 8 years old, I remember having knife fights with my little brother after seeing this movie, haha

  • I have to say this. I can handle dancing newsies, I can handle dancing sailors, hell I can even handle dancing cats. However I draw the line at plieing gansters. Really guys, really? Still like the music though.

  • u got served

  • If these gangs danced like that in the projects they would get shot

  • @stocker104

    Tit ! It's a musical !

  • Best dancing ever in a musical.

  • the sharks r the original taylor gang !

  • Comment removed

  • Nothing like a "sissymary" prance across the street to scare the bejeezus out of everyone. :-) Looks more like they were going purse shopping than going to a rumble.

  • @tonybklyn This was one of the first time Hollywood paid attention to gangs, mild as they were in the movie. Racisim was also addressed, never done in an "A" movie before-also a modern day Romeo and Juliet theme. Had it all in a format Americans would watch, and not be "offended." South Pacific addressed racisim in the mid 50's. Check out some of the footage of that with the Lt. and and the girl from Bali. I do understand why 50 yrs later this is amusing, and I mean no offense.

  • i tell you, it's the most fun to walk around your local town shouting 'pah' and 'pow' clicking your fingers, and kicking your legs into the air. trust me, i've done it.

  • @HelloDaisy94

Why TF are you passing comments on a movie that you have zero interest in, nor I suspect , the intellect to appreciate !

  • @TheFlyboysevere and how would you know i don't have any interest? i have loved this film since i was 8. i cry every time i watch it, and think it's a beautiful story. just because i post a comment that doesn't suggest this doesn't mean i 'don't have the intellect to understand this'.

  • @HelloDaisy94

alright already ! Guess I was a little acerbic in my criticism - I took your comments to be sarcasm and i will defend this musical epic and all its' brilliance , against all detractors .

Sorry for being a tad hasty .

It also helped that you are a 'looker !

  • @TheFlyboysevere i would do the same, I understand why you said it haha

  • 4:43 is my favorite scene with the dancing basketball.

  • I seriously walked around with my friend snapping at school like this today...people looked at us werid XD to bad they dont know how amazing this is

  • That's some pretty badass ballett you're doing there, guys.

  • @StarKidCaroline i don't want to argue against a starkid, but it is Jazz no ballet

  • @StarKidCaroline sorry i realized some of the dancing is ballet. STARKIDS!!!!!

  • @Mrgodcow That's okay. And Starkid is wonderful. As is this musical.

  • @StarKidCaroline oh yeah!!!!!

  • subtitles in a musical.. kinda usless dont you think?

  • this is amazing i dont care what anybody else has to say...id take this over lmfao anyday.

  • @allhopeisgone333 If you want to troll, at least do it properly and not embarrassing yourself. I might not be too fond of this myself, but you come off as an eight-year-old.

  • fags

  • @kocakscamaroz28 Prefer this over any of that shuffling shit which 90 percent of the population does it the lmfao style.

  • The lyrics from the original version of"Gee Officer Krupke"(from the stage musical)are more controversal than what was performed in this movie version. Also..that tune was performed after "The Rumble".."Cool"was performed before the rumble..why? I'll never know?

  • wat year was this made can any 1 help

  • @alexa1978ify 1961

  • @XTANGIE8582 thanks

  • @alexa1978ify 1961

  • BRO DOWN!!!

  • You know you're in band class when... the whole class is snapping along with the movie

  • wish fights were like this :/

  • I wish real gangs were like this... That would be cool.

  • I had to watch this in eighth grade. It's fucking hilarious.

We were snapping at each other for the rest of the year.

  • I had to watch this in eighth grade. It's fucking hilarious.

  • 50th anniversary! Stay cool brett, brett stay cool.

  • I am told the producers were allowed to film these dance scenes in the actual area of West Side Manhattan with the boarded-up and vacant tenements in the background before they were torn down to build today's Lincoln Center.

  • Freaking badass

  • Why can't people settle disputes this way? JUST DANCE IT OUT!!!

  • @StupidLamb251 dancing nowadays isnt in that kind of view as the dancers of yesterday. Ballet is good for many things, but in the society today other styles have evolved in the same manner. the first thing men think of is no more than ballet.

  • Comment removed

  • I'm going to walk like this to all of my classes

  • Gang violence used to be much more hilarious.

  • "This fight is unbearably campy!!!" - Stan Smith -

  • their so hot

  • chalk, that's some hardcore graffiti right there

  • HILARIOUS CHASES EVER!

  • RUN ! They are dancin' OVER HERE !

  • Glee is going to do songs from this next ep. Beware.

  • What a fucking shit film

  • I wonder if the song "Beat it" by MJ was to pay homage to this gay mess. Now I have the desire to redecorate my house.

  • The white dude snaps off beat.

  • lol one of the most entertaining intros. i love at the 8:10ish wen the kids like JETS! JETS! im imagining him say "theyr gonna fuck my ass!!"

  • My favorite scene of the movie!

  • HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

  • I wish today's gangs were made up of professionally trained dancers...

  • @NDawgHoyt LOL

  • @NDawgHoyt

Ha! That would be great. However, back in the 60's, this was considered menacing and inappropriate behavior, as things were so G-rated in movies and TV. Nowadays they'd just pull out a gun and cap the guy. But, back in the 60's there were no bad words or gestures, and people pubicly behaved much more conservatively and non-offensively. I remember as a kid, the worst thing you could/would call someone was ugly, stupid, or a creep. Can you imagine? We also didn't lock our doors.

  • If i ever get caught in a gang war this is how im gonna take them down...

  • 6:34 me encanta jajaja xD

  • The choreography is still amazing. The music by Bernstein has become an American classic. This play is still performed everywhere. I wish we had talent like this now. While pro football players study ballet, they cannot match this agility and endurance.

  • The choreography is still amazing. The music by Bernstein has become an American classic. This play is still performed everywhere. I wish we had talent like this now...

  • 4:29... PENIS!
