Origin of the Moon

How can it be explained that an impact, an accident, made our Moon EXACTLY the same angular size as our Sun. So, we have Solar Eclipses. This astronomer is a disgrace of science. Being a scientist myself I am so bored of idiots who pretend to be researchers. So, I am starting to believe in some Cabal who are interested to dumb people under wale of science.

If the Earth hadn't got walloped, it would be smaller with less gravity and less hold on the atmosphere that would develop later, and all kinds of other stuff that ended up to our now benefit. We're lucky it happened.

how would the moon and earth both be such nice sphere shapes though?.. i mean, when one thing crashes into another doesn't it usually turn out looking sharp and deformed? i know that they aren't in perfect shape, but they aren't lop-sided as i would expect something that got hit to be.. what would have been able to shape it?

@chisau Comets are covered in ice. Millions of Comets hitting the Earth (over a 4 billion year period) would have provide lots of water to the Earth.

the earth was still in it's baby stage. even before u found out about the moon being created u obviously knew that the earth itself was created and eventually cooled down so whatever u thought created the "bio mattter" would have had to come after that point as well. finding out about the origin of the moon changes nothing about how u thought life arose on earth

Ahhh... Okay, I just viewed a show on the History Channel speaking about this very thing. Now, if a planet did hit earth indirectly, which resulted in the formation of the moon, then that means, the planet that collided with earth is within it's own orbit and returns every 3600 years. This would explain the speculation about Planet Nibiru and also explains, what is mentioned in the Bible about the return of Wormwood. Yep, this is all the proof I need, to know that it is all true.

@luvdomus What the video appears to be saying is... that it was earth debris from the collision of another planet and not from the debris of that other planet and if that is correct, perhaps in it's return, that planet might have been thrown off of it orbital course, just slightly. In another History Channel, this same guys (in the video) shows that Earth was not hit straight on, but rather hitting just the edge of Earth.

The computer simulation seen at 7:50 in the video shows that "...the impactor is completely destroyed by the collision..."-- which is what every explanation of this moon formation theory also says. I think you are just grasping at straws to justify your interest in the "Nibiru" nonsense, but this video does not support any such interpretation (nor does the "Mayan calendar" or anything other than internet crackpottery.

This is a no Brainer. The earth and moon were one planet and the moon spun out of the earth. That would mean the moon and earth are made of the same stuff. The only thing that remains in question is where the oceans on earth came from.

The collision that formed the moon was by a rocky object which would have vaporized any surface water which would have been lost to space. Any water deposited by comets must have come in separate incidents. Water from earth's interior, present since its early formation, would also have emerged from volcanoes.

It may sound reasonable but not logical that moon came out of earth collision with another planet. Anything hiiting earth with such a size and velocity will completely dstroy earth..I reckon, moon formed same way as earth but got stuck into earths gravity..moon. mars or any smaller planets have less gravity and therefore no atmosphere...

A Scientist in Australia worked out that each planets number of moons could be calculated mathematically. This was never publicized by NASA. It means all planets and their moons were one body and then separated later.

Not if, as scientists speculate, the other planet hit proto-Earth at an angle. By doing this, it blew the other planet apart, started the spinning of the Earth, and caused the debris that eventually came together to form the moon.

It makes sense, and there are computer models showing how this would be entirely possible.

The collision that formed the moon was a glancing blow which did indeed melt-- but not destroy-- the earth. Even vaporous material will re-coalesce from gravity. Where else would material go? It can't just disappear from existence.
