My mom was a huge fan of Carole King...growing up she would put all of her albums on the turntable and we'd listen while we cleaned house. Wonderful song writer.
I agree with @stoneaudrey.. I have this original LP if anyone knows anymore what an LP is... She wrote a lot of music for people in the 60's and 70's... she's an amazing singer/songwriter....
I grew up with the music of Carole King. she is amazing, awesome, wrote so much for many people, and sings great when she does her own singing version!! PLS go to my favs and click on VERY NICE SINGING WILL YOU STILL LOVE ME TOMORROW WITH GRANDMA JOYCE (thats me (-: ) just a tribute with singing and keyboard to one of the greats. love ya Carole!
There is more feeling in Caroles version here. Always felt the deep angst in this one. This is beautiful. The Shirelles is great too but not as poignant.
So who is the "original" artist of a pop song? Is it the writer, or the performer who made it famous? This song was written by Gerry Goffin & Carole King, who, at the time, were unknown to the general public. The Shirelles version, released in 1960 became a huge hit. If the original artist is the writer, then very few people know the "original" artists of any of their favorite songs.
Hard to believe that their are people in this world who haven't heard every song on "Tapestry." Carole King writes incredible songs and I love her take on her own material.
Wow, this is beautiful! I admit that I had never heard this Carol King's original version before but, damn! It's totally different and new, it's as if I were hearing this song for the first time! it's wonderful the way Carol can make it so sweet and intense at the same time.I've always loved this song and I still like the Shirelles version but honor and respect to the sublime interpretation of the one who wrote it!
The "original"?? The first time this song was ever heard it came from her lips, as she was writing it in 1961. "boring"? She's asking if the love is real, not trying to come up with a peppy dance beat, so she isn't singin it with a finger-snapping grin...
@kybrdmn yep. This is THE version of a classic song, and no one can put it out there like her. You wonder if she was looking at Gerry when she penned it. It's a shame people don't seem to be able to sensed the angst in music like this any more.
@stoneaudrey if you are going to make a negative comment about a great song atleast know what you are talking about so you dont make yourself look like an idiot ... this is the original and Carole King wrote this song as well as many more songs you probably have no clue she wrote ! Lets all recognize one of the best song writers of all time !!!
@stoneaudrey ... your ignorant slip is showing!!! Obviously you have NO IDEA of Carole King's music, and her respectability as an artist. You HAVE to be a new kid on the block of music. This is one of Carole King's classic songs. May I suggest you educate yourself of REAL songwriters and musicians ... and shut up and LISTEN to good, beautiful music. On 2nd thought ... please buy Carole King's "Tapestry" - then - you WILL shut up!!
@stoneaudrey : You are a fucking idiot. I bet you were those idiots thinking that the brit druggie wrote and sang it first , right?. that means, you are such a fucking imbecile. Apologize and get the fuck out here.
i want to marry carole king and move into THAT apartment with our two cat's. they say this all the time, but they dont make em like this anymore.song and people
My entire burning soul knows this song can only belong to the image of the man I'm in love with, not the person I'm married to.

As far as peppy dance beats - 'Locomotion' was pretty good.
