I enjoyed this, like the music and vibe.I used to live in N.Ca in Fort Bragg, and used to vist SF,and I love it, I do wish to move there someday, when I have enough money. I wish you all my best.
SF is a hella chill city. People are crazy, weird, interesting, peaceful, intellectual, drugged out and artistic. The tenderloin, bayview and the mission are dangerous only if you walk around flashing your wallet or showing of your expensive wear. You have to be street smart, if you can be friendly and get along with different types of people then SF is wonderland. Its expensive but there is Chinatown/Mission for cheap things, and the Sunset/Ingleside/Oceanview for cheap affordable living. =)
How do so many new arrivals end up on the street? Don't they have any kind of welfare support? In the city that I live in Australia you can usually always find somewhere decent to live. If people end up homeless, then it is usually because they are serious ex-cons or suffer mental illness.
I pay 855/mo where I live now for a small one bedroom, about 750 sq. ft. I'd be happier in a studio in SF. Less is more. Not sure I'm ready to give up my car. I know it's hard to park there, what are the parking rules? Can I park someplace and leave it there indefinetely? In NYC you have alternate side of the street parking and people have to move their car every day to the other side of the street. I miss living in a smart, vital city. How about Berkeley? Or other parts of town that are safe?
@BoysLikeMeee SF is safe. Look into Sunset area. Great area, close to the ocean, twenty minutes away from downtown and the rest of SF on Muni, and affordable.
God... I fucking hate this city.. Ruined my childhood to live here. The people are awful, everyone's a moron, no one's friendly. I can't wait to get the fuck out of this shit hole... wasted years of my life here...
LOL SF in not bad btw why live in SF anyways? Marine county were I live is like 10 mintes from golden gate and is one of if not the wealthiest countys in the USA its so weathly they are baggin minorties and blue collar workers to move into the area becasue too much wealth but like I was sayin SF is nice and everyone is peacefull unless U live in the mission or hunters point your fine
k im here and im retracting my retraction. san francisco fucking sucks. this town IS a crime ridden shit hole. fucking dirty over crowded over price shit hole. and i need to get the fuck out of here. you gotta be on crack if you think this dump is nice.
@BoysLikeMeee the area is actually really nice. its just filled with lots of bums, gangs and crime. and rent is just stupid. like i said im in a shitty 1br and pay 2400/month, and im not even in the city. i ALWAYS wanted to live here till i found out what it is actually like. i had to come here for work. so no choice really. LA is MUCH better than SF.
and if i could, i would go right back to Canada. but until i have a job back there im stuck here.
i have to move there for work. i have NO DESIRE to move to this crime infested shit hole. i am freakin out so bad. have to leave in two days, and cant get out of it.
@TRaddcliff you also have to take into consideration that LA is a sprawling megatropolis, while SF is only 7 x 7 miles, 49 square miles. of course the crime rate is "higher"- the population is a lot more concentrated.
I hated living in LA and def felt safer in SF, but to each his own.
@charlesasher .... crime is everywhere... SF is the neatest place to live. Where else can you have a little store and a jazz bar on your street. I used to live on LaPlaya facing the Pacific, could walk across the street and walk for miles down the beach. I miss SF!
@TRaddcliff Certain places in LA are the nicest places in the world. Other places in LA are the poorest and most dangerous. It just depends where you live in SF.
@charlesasher i was a little harsh with the 'shit hole' comment, but, i said it because there are no trees, the streets feel like alleys, the rent is WAY high for a shitty apt. and all the buildings are staked up on each other resembling a ritzy shanty town made of concrete instead corrugated steel.
had a really bad vibe when i was there.
trees are SUPER important to me.
in LA i left my windows open 24 a day for 15 years. i was told not to in SF. that makes me very sad.
Thanks for this. What area are you walking in? please tell! Gorgeous. I am from Ft. Lauderdale, moved to Fresno for college, now id love to move to SF....working on how best to do this :)
I Begun Starting The Hard Process of Evaluating Places Id Like to Relocate to Begin Life on My Own & Pursue My Dream Career in Law Enforcement, and I Recently Started Considering SF.

(I Know I Would Struggle, Especially in This Beautiful City)

When I move out of the house, I want to live there but I don't think I could really afford it.... Any advice about when I should move there after I make a living?
Such a great video. I'm glad you did this, a lot of people don't realize what it is going to be like to go out to SF before they do and they freak out when they realize it didn't go as well as they thought!
is your apartment nice? i pay approx $581 a month for a 6th of a mouldy student house, not including utility. on the upside, I'm in Brighton, which is england's gay town :)
$850 a month for a small room sounds really expensive... Here it's like £400($600) for a decent sized place. But then i don't really get the economical differences anyway... Like here earning £25-30k a year would be a lot but apparently in the US it's very little.
Visited SF a couple years ago though and it was an amazing place.
cant waittt:)

@TRaddcliff Stop lying. SF is one of the most peaceful major cities in the
USA. It is not over crowded and is definitely not dirty at all, except maybe china town.

@TRaddcliff shit-infested crime hole? haha, are we talking about LA or SF?
if you are moving to the tenderloin or western addition i might be worried, but other than that you should be fine.
charlesasher 4 months ago 5
@charlesasher really? thanks dude. youre the first person who has said that to me. everyone i know that lives there says otherwise.
but you guys in SF need to get over the LA comparisson. i lived in LA for 15 years. there is WAY less crime in LA. example....
LA = 17 miliion people - has a crime rate that is 39% above the national average.
SF = 800 K people - has a crime rate that is 375% above the national average.
these are stats put out by local PDs and states.
LA is actually quite a safe.
