I live n a homeless camp with two pitfalls n they have killed a cougar a couple hogs some rabbits and one time took on an scared of a pack of coyotes. my dogs are my saviors and my partners but there also not house pets.

I am a vet. I have been working with all types of dogs, there has never been recorded any death of a cougar that has been caused by any breed of dog that is a hard fact. How ever there is over 247 dogs that have been mauled and killed by a cougar in the state of Maine alone, I have these stats becuase of my job. I have had to personally put down 7 dogs that were gravely injured by mt. lions in the past 3 years. two were pitbulls (one which was considered a game, which means trained to fight.)
TBH if the genetics of the domestic cat wasnt diluted so much they could have quite possibly been about the size of many large breed dogs and this would be way more common except the headline would say "Domestic Cat Kills Dog"

Cats' claws are used when animals, at a distance, are trying to approach the cat. They prick at the canine's face. Leopards they from are known to fight with their back claws, but not cougars. A lynx, bobcat etc would be no pushover for any dog but they are built to hunt small prey and are very slender. A cougar on the other hand (especially a tom) is a robust, powerful animal with very stocky forelimbs. One swipe across the throat and any dog is dead, especially with the weight of an adult tom behind it.

I just dont see how a single dog of any size could win against a healthy adult cougar. The only way would be for the dog to grab hold around the neck and have enough power to choke the cat but like i stated earlier, an adult tom gets to 220 lb in weight, has paws 6" wide and claws over an inch long. This video is misleading. The cougar didn't kill the male pitbull. The Veternarian put it to sleep because the owner couldn't afford treatment. The pregnant pitbull and boxer fended off the cougar quite well. Why did the boxer and pregnant pitbull fair better against than the male pitbull. Something's wrong. Of course they were ingured. Any animal that get into a fight get injuries. But I read about a Chow & a Labrador that both beat COUGARS. So the title of this video is misleading.

I have two decent size pits and if they got into it with a cougar I'm pretty sure they would get fucking mauled but But in this case that cougar doesn't stand a chance and that's cuz I never head to the woods without my saiga 12 loaded with hexalight slugs. 1 in the pipe and a 12 round drum. My sogs got into it with black bear that came into camp all parties involved decided ll a draw and part ways.They Hunt and kill 200 lb wild hogs all the time dragg em back to house I clean em cook em in pit whole for a few days then give it back a few lbs each.

@use2slam2 I think you are right, these are huge dogs with thick coats that are completely devoted. A cougar MAY kill it but it is far from a sure bet. Most of the times people will use 2 or more of these dogs in case of wolf packs. A cougar wouldnt even think twice of taking on 2 of these kinds of dogs and probably alot of other big dogs like rottweilers. I still say a big rottweiler would decapitate a cougar. Rotties are extremely strong dogs and on 2 legs can be 6 feet tall.

See a cat may very well be able to tear even a rotty or pit bull to shreds, but many times it will not want to take the chance on it because it knows it will not come out of it unscathed and it needs to be healthy to hunt. There are many dogs that would give a dogo a real good go including canarios, tosas etc. They also used to de-claw and de-tooth cougars before setting the dogos on them because they lost so many. This is the south american version of the cougar too, which are around half the size of the north american ones. Google it if you dont believe me. The north american ones are on average bigger than leopards who would also murder any dog.

@josepablobolanos I have searched and there are no stories of cougs killing pit bulls or rotweillers. I used to have a rotweiller who would rip a cougars head off. Oh and I let my terrier outside just this week and it killed a cat in my back yard.. Not that I like that of course. No, I dont have to keep my dogs inside, I live in middle of a big city and even if I didnt, there are at least 2 dogs outside, they always go together. Cougars dont usually attack dogs when there are mutliple dogs.

Those dogs that get beaten are household pets that wander in terrain with unaware minds. I read of a Pitbull fighting off a jaguar once so I know a Rottweiler would be enough.

@sseedell I've seen a real cougar when I lived in San Diego County. I know MANY breed types can take this animal. Rottweilers, Anatolians, Boerboels, Akitas, Leonbergers and Neopolitan Mastiffs are just a few. A good sized German Shepherd may even be enough. You're confusing Cougars for Bears which can kill with one swing of it's paw. Cats don't scratch in the way you saw so a Cougar would NOT kill a dog with it's claws. They PRICK when they fight. This wouldn't work on a Rottweiler or Akita.

@MobiusX Lions kill hyenas which have stronger bites and are more rugged than any domestic dog. Not only do they kill them, but they do it with ease, and even in front of other hyenas. Tigers take on 1 ton gaurs solo, in the wild go figure.They also prey on wild boars which are fierce, strong and have sharp tusks. And the siberians have been known to kill and eat adult brown bears. Tigers, leopards and jaguars kill sizable crocodiles, large anacondas and pythons. Lions take on other lions.

A 220 Pound English Mastiff was used a body gaurd at an wild animal park. The Mastiff was trained to attack if any of the big cats turned on the owner of the preserve..They had Cheetahs and Mtn Lions...The Mastiff was used many times and saved this womans life....keep in mind these dogs would fight african lions in Rome. Someone did have a video of a 2 Mastiffs killing a female african lion, it was removed, which was the right thing to do.

I am a vet. I have been working with all types of dogs, there has never been recorded any death of a cougar that has been caused by any breed of dog that is a hard fact. How ever there is over 247 dogs that have been mauled and killed by a cougar in the state of Maine alone, I have these stats becuase of my job. I have had to personally put down 7 dogs that were gravely injured by mt. lions in the past 3 years. two were pitbulls (one which was considered a game, which means trained to fight.)

Cats' claws are used when animals, at a distance, are trying to approach the cat. They prick at the canine's face. Leopards they from are known to fight with their back claws, but not cougars. A lynx, bobcat etc would be no pushover for any dog but they are built to hunt small prey and are very slender. A cougar on the other hand (especially a tom) is a robust, powerful animal with very stocky forelimbs. I just dont see how a single dog of any size could win against a healthy adult cougar. The only way would be for the dog to grab hold around the neck and have enough power to choke the cat but like i stated earlier, an adult tom gets to 220 lb in weight, has paws 6" wide and claws over an inch long. It would simply shred any dog that even got to within grabbing distance. Theres a video on this site that shows a cougar destroy an adult gray wolf in about 10 secs. There is just no comparison

This video is misleading. The cougar didn't kill the male pitbull. The Veternarian put it to sleep because the owner couldn't afford treatment. The pregnant pitbull and boxer fended off the cougar quite well. Why did the boxer and pregnant pitbull fair better against than the male pitbull. Something's wrong. Of course they were ingured. Any animal that get into a fight get injuries. But I read about a Chow & a Labrador that both beat COUGARS. So the title of this video is misleading.

I have two decent size pits and if they got into it with a cougar I'm pretty sure they would get fucking mauled but But in this case that cougar doesn't stand a chance and that's cuz I never head to the woods without my saiga 12 loaded with hexalight slugs. 1 in the pipe and a 12 round drum. My sogs got into it with black bear that came into camp all parties involved decided ll a draw and part ways.They Hunt and kill 200 lb wild hogs all the time dragg em back to house I clean em cook em in pit whole for a few days then give it back a few lbs each.

@use2slam2 I think you are right, these are huge dogs with thick coats that are completely devoted. A cougar MAY kill it but it is far from a sure bet. Most of the times people will use 2 or more of these dogs in case of wolf packs. A cougar wouldnt even think twice of taking on 2 of these kinds of dogs and probably alot of other big dogs like rottweilers. I still say a big rottweiler would decapitate a cougar. Rotties are extremely strong dogs and on 2 legs can be 6 feet tall.

See a cat may very well be able to tear even a rotty or pit bull to shreds, but many times it will not want to take the chance on it because it knows it will not come out of it unscathed and it needs to be healthy to hunt. And there are many dogs that are bigger than 120 lbs, like great danes

There are many dogs that would give a dogo a real good go including canarios, tosas etc. They also used to de-claw and de-tooth cougars before setting the dogos on them because they lost so many. This is the south american version of the cougar too, which are around half the size of the north american ones. Google it if you dont believe me. The north american ones are on average bigger than leopards who would also murder any dog.

Oh and I let my terrier outside just this week and it killed a cat in my back yard.. Not that I like that of course. @sseedell Dogs are better runners, having BOTH speed and Stamina. Cats are just more agile. A Rottweiler's field is his ability to fight and they run very well. I've read reports of Chow Chows and a labrador named Hoagie fighting a cougar. The Chow Chow gave the Cougar a good fight TWICE. Those dogs that get beaten are household pets that wander in terrain with unaware minds. I read of a Pitbull fighting off a jaguar once so I know a Rottweiler would be enough.

@Molossian you're talking complete crap. As explained below, there is a big difference between making a cougar run away and actually killing it in a fight. Your average 10 year old child would make a cougar run away if it shouted loud enough and ran towards it waving its arms. As with a single dog, the child would be eaten if the cougar really wanted. @Molossian and no, those dogs that get killed are not household pets. There is a story on here of a lone cougar killing 2x 90lb g.shepherds that were experienced guard dogs. The cougar even dragged one up a tree before eating it. They were just unfortunate enough to be nearby when the cougar was hungry. Unlike dogs, cougars are solitary creatures with no one else to watch their backs. Some take elk in excess of 500lb, show me any dog that could that. A healthy adult wins all day v any dog/wolf

Those are bloodhound type dogs and the cougar simply dwarfs them. Each paw on the cougar is wider than the dog's head and would rip its throat out with one swipe if it landed cleanly. At 142lb, this isnt even a particularly large cougar either. Add another 60lb for an adult tom. A rottie would make a nice snack for one of these.

@sseedell I've seen a real cougar when I lived in San Diego County. I know MANY breed types can take this animal. Rottweilers, Anatolians, Boerboels, Akitas, Leonbergers and Neopolitan Mastiffs are just a few. A good sized German Shepherd may even be enough. You're confusing Cougars for Bears which can kill with one swing of it's paw. Cats don't scratch in the way you saw so a Cougar would NOT kill a dog with it's claws. They PRICK when they fight. This wouldn't work on a Rottweiler or Akita.

There will be a number of things a cat considers before it attacks; hunger and size of prey being a couple. A cougar is an absolute wrecking machine but despite this, if it feels threatened it will run. In this way it survives to fight another day. No one is questioning a dog's loyalty. I have a rohedesian ridgeback that would give her life for me or my kids.

Tigers take on 1 ton gaurs solo, in the wild go figure.They also prey on wild boars which are fierce, strong and have sharp tusks. And the siberians have been known to kill and eat adult brown bears. Tigers, leopards and jaguars kill sizable crocodiles, large anacondas and pythons. Lions take on other lions.

Cougars are many times more agile, have faster reflexes, better weaponry and are stronger pound for pound. Cougars challenge bears and beat single wolves in the wild, let alone a fucking 'dogo'. A 220 Pound English Mastiff was used a body gaurd at an wild animal park. The Mastiff was trained to attack if any of the big cats turned on the owner of the preserve..They had Cheetahs and Mtn Lions...The Mastiff was used many times and saved this womans life....keep in mind these dogs would fight african lions in Rome. Someone did have a video of a 2 Mastiffs killing a female african lion, it was removed, which was the right thing to do.

2. A Cougar has a large head compared to many animals. However ead size doesn't distinguish bite force. The Cougar has very large neck mussles.
3. Even though a Mastiff is bigger, like I sated it would easily lose in conflict.

You have to remember that the dog has to have the ability to catch the Cougar to. Cougars are fast and agile, I seriously doubt a Mastiff could kill it. Also remember that a Cougar can take down prey 7 times it's own weight so don't assume a heavier dog will prevail. A wolf mix also wont help. A Cougar can easily take down a Gray wolf.
Cougars also don't average weights of 80lbs. Males average 200lbs and in some cases get over 260lbs. The Mastiff doesn't even come close.
