The sub is SO bad... thanks for the upload. I'm gonna find the english dub if I can though, I remember watching it about 20 years ago when it aired on space channel with the lensmaster and vampire hunter D. All 3 movies blew me away.
in my opinion the american translation is better only during the conversation between the inventor and his robot because the dialog matches the action of the 2 toy robots during that conversation
My god I haven't seen this video in over 10 years. This was the only segment I still remember or even cared about. There was something so haunting but still so intriguing about this one. Thank you for sharing it. I wonder if I still have it on VHS somewhere. I remember recording it one late night on USA channel.
I am still facinated with this sading tale! It's hard to believe this was Yasuomi Umetsu's early works! I'm sure many of you are more familiar with his later creations...
This was my favorite segment from Robot Carnival, what amazing is how the director (umetsu) went on to direct Kite and the yellow star eps of Cool Devices! :D
Everything about this story is enchanting, I've been trying to find this for many years and there aren't even good screen caps online. Thanks a lot for sharing.

The is, IMO, easily the vignette with the most depth of Robot Carnival

I like the music in this segment a lot. Is it by Joe Hisaishi? It sounds a little bit like the theme music from Nausicaa.

I saw this when I was six on Saturday Anime on the Sci-Fi channel and at almost 21, this is still the best anime I've ever seen.
I never new it was Yasuomi Umetsu who did this, I was always attracted to his style and now I know why.

This is one of the most beautiful pieces of animation I've ever seen. The detail in the art is breathtaking and I love the story.

The inventor has always reminded me of actor Harvey Kietel.

Last I saw this was on VHS, and that was a long time ago, it seems like the words are different somehow. Is this one fan subbed?

thanks for the upload! nice quality too! did you sub it yourself?
i like the "aura" of this story, so chilling and haunting but not in a scary way...but more like sad and melancholic.
