I'm kind of surprised no one's mentioned this but sometimes Bert triumphs over Ernie just like Tom sometimes triumphs over Jerry.

That's a very good point. Maybe Ernie wasn't paying attention to Bert when he said "no" because the trick backfired on Ernie and he was offended when Bert was laughing at him. Perhaps if Ernie was going to try to make Bert say "no", he could've said a lie something like, "Bert listen, I was thinking about throwing your paper clip and your bottle cap collections in the trash to have space in the apartment for me to play with rubber ducky." I'm sure Bert would've believed him and said "no."

Actually, Ernie could have won in this one. After Bert said, "Ahhhh! You said, "No you couldn't! N-O No! Ahhhh!", Ernie could have said, "Ahhh you just said the word no when you said I said no! See! I told you I could make you say that word!"

I was just thinking that myself. But personally, I'm glad he didn't. Bert deserves to have the last laugh once in a while. Another skit with a rather similar climax was the one with Lefty selling Ernie a painting of elephants. Ernie has trouble finding the elephants, but Bert spots them right away.
