  • A pretty good recipe. You should probably deep fry the chicken with some whipped egg too, though. The ketchup seemed like a bit of an odd ingredient as well. There's plenty of flavor in it and you've already made in sweet and sour with the sugar/vinegar. The ketchup didn't seem necessary (although I've never tried it with ketchup). A good recipe overall though =D

  • Good stuff. But my Chinese friend actually told me he never heard of Sweet Sour style dishes while back home, it is probably one of those dishes invented by Chinese takeaways abroad to suit our 'western' taste. Can anybody confirm this?

  • @theBlueBrick Sweet Sour is actually a sauce from the Cantonese Chinese style , which is also a very popular style in overseas chinese cooking and go through some modification, such as adding ketchup and other western ingredients.

    Not sure which part of China your friend is from, but sweet and sour pork is actually quite popular in Hong Kong

  • @theBlueBrick Well, I am from Hong Kong, and Sweet and Sour Chicken/Pork is a very famous dish here. China got many different parts, this dishhas a Cantonese background, especially Hong Kong. So if your friend is not from the Southern Part of China or Hong Kong, then he/she may not know this dish!

  • @sok098 Like what? The word "slurry" is a common term used for a thickening agent such as that. With every cooking video there are fools trying to act like they know more than the person in the video. I'm really not surprised by all these comments.

  • @celticrose67 I'm not a fool and I'm not trying to act like I know more, its just that "slurry" is also commonly used to describe farmyard manure and its not the image I want to think about when I'm looking at a recipe. She could have used the word for example mix or mixture.

    Google "Define: Slurry" None of the definitions mention food, they are all to do with sediment, faeces, mud and rivers...not one foody word among the bunch!
