I made sweet and sour sauce in my culinary class we used ketchup but do you really need the vegetables I've never seen all that stuff on sweet and sour chicken
A pretty good recipe. You should probably deep fry the chicken with some whipped egg too, though. The ketchup seemed like a bit of an odd ingredient as well. There's plenty of flavor in it and you've already made in sweet and sour with the sugar/vinegar. The ketchup didn't seem necessary (although I've never tried it with ketchup). A good recipe overall though =D
Well get your mother to upload a video if you want your water chestnuts, or add them yourself if you make the rest of the stuff in this video. Don't be a moron.
Definately the best presentation I seen out of many on you tube!! Amazing how simple and easy ingredients and an intelligent way of preparation could make this dish spactacular.I saw this one chef add a myriad gamut of crazy ingredients and took him a thousand years to finish. He even got the chiken all clumpy in the Wok then tried to break it up with tongs...well,Congrats, and thanks for the post, will make this dish soon...fabulous!!Great job..much success!!
Has anybody noticed that the ingredient list says 1/4 cup of corn starch but the spoken and the subsequent written ingredients are 1/2 cup corn starch plus another 2 Tbsp corn starch....plus 5 Tbsps water. Also..."deep fried" Sweet and Sour Chicken???
This lady surely was raised by a Chinese lady. She was surely not raised by a Britney-Spears-ish person. I will offer three goats, two bamboo trees, and a pound of silver for her hand in marry. I am hope.
Pshhh, I know chef hats can be a pain sometimes while in the kitchen, but at least put your hair up in a ponytail! My chefs at school always tell the "preppy girls" that THIS IS NOT A FASHION SHOW OR BEAUTY SALON. Having your hair down while cooking is a sanitational hazard. NOOB.
Just did it today and it was Delicious ! i Added Soy sauce as an extra with the other sauces as well as replaced Sesame oil with Olive oil + some real sesame. Thanks for the great recipe !!

Good stuff. But my Chinese friend actually told me he never heard of Sweet Sour style dishes while back home, it is probably one of those dishes invented by Chinese takeaways abroad to suit our 'western' taste. Can anybody confirm this?
@theBlueBrick Sweet Sour is actually a sauce from the Cantonese Chinese style , which is also a very popular style in overseas chinese cooking and go through some modification, such as adding ketchup and other western ingredients.
Not sure which part of China your friend is from, but sweet and sour pork is actually quite popular in Hong Kong
@theBlueBrick Well, I am from Hong Kong, and Sweet and Sour Chicken/Pork is a very famous dish here. China got many different parts, this dishhas a Cantonese background, especially Hong Kong. So if your friend is not from the Southern Part of China or Hong Kong, then he/she may not know this dish!
@sok098 Like what? The word "slurry" is a common term used for a thickening agent such as that. With every cooking video there are fools trying to act like they know more than the person in the video. I'm really not surprised by all these comments.
@celticrose67 I'm not a fool and I'm not trying to act like I know more, its just that "slurry" is also commonly used to describe farmyard manure and its not the image I want to think about when I'm looking at a recipe. She could have used the word for example mix or mixture.
Google "Define: Slurry" None of the definitions mention food, they are all to do with sediment, faeces, mud and rivers...not one foody word among the bunch!
