Fantastic album. The brilliance lies in the "story" concept in which each song ties into the other...if you skip tracks and don't listen to the entire album, you'll never understand it. Absolutely brilliant...and I think Nuno is also under-appreciated as a score writer. His talents go far beyond just that of a great guitarist. Gary's a great lyricist as well. The VH heads were too stoned or stupid to understand anything beyond party or ass references, hence the dislike for Gary as lead singer.
I love Extreme, I have been there since the first album - saw them with a handful of people at an early club show when the first album was just being released. This song, to me, is just soooo XTC, but it sounds like Extreme... I can just really hear the XTC influence.
Oh, and the Freddie Mercury "Cameo" in the video has always bothered me a bit. I'm surprised nobody else has commented on it.
I just saw them in Phoenix and I was completely blown away. So talented... Nuno and Gary look hot as ever and they haven't lost anything. Although they need to make more money to hire better tech guys. Nuno's stacks blew twice!
nuno is a great guitar player but this song in particular i feel is full of way too many
different chord voicings that if it werent for the weak chorus holding it together would almost seem random. i was waiting for something to happen but it never did. III sides was a great album though. i thought it was better than pornograffiti in more ways than one. they just really could have used image consultants back then.
yeah man, you did a good observation. the chords are so different one from the other that they may eventually sound like they are random. But this is where the genius of nuno lays: he manages to hold together that bunch of chords so complex and so different and create a coherent melody. I think this song is one of the peaks of his perspicacy together with Decadence dance and pornograffitti and some others.
I dunno... I think that the genius of Nuno Bettencourt is that he keeps the guitar interesting underneath the vocals, Whether it's rhythmically like Suzi or chordally like this... It's better than just stabbing chords!
Regardless, Nuno is one of the greatest guitar players who walk this earth. Hisanswer to Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's "Flight of the Bumble Bee" should be hailed as a metal guitar classic. Stop the world is a smash! Beautiful from start to finish. His chords and effects used here obviously suggests he knows what he's doing to create that melodic, emotional ballad. Can't say enough. Goodluck on the reunion tour. Visit Toronto Extreme and I won't miss it for the world! Stop the world!!!
I feel like tearing, whenever I listen to this beautiful song... This number reminds me of the time when I was fascinated by Extreme. (Actually, I thought that they were merely a pop band, due to the huge success of More Than Words.) At that time, I was university freshman, and I come to play this number with guitar by myself. (I still remember most of the part, and can play.) I hope to go back to the time...I hope to stop the world now...
Very under-rated work - the 2nd and particularly The 3rd side of III Sides was/is way ahead of it's time. It will take you on a journey with the lights off, headphones on and eyes closed and just a touch high
I agree. I love the way the album moves to the grand finale, it's just remarkable.
Although it was naive to expect mass public would accept it - great (complex) albums of great bands are often shelved and replaced by inferior music of inferior bands.
And we can be glad they are back :) I missed this band, I really did.
We all miss them. Just as they were becoming more mature (compared to their earlier stuff, which I like, but is quite dated at times).
An even better album is Punchline. I love the overall sound of the recording, especially the drums. They went into even another direction and presented it well.
All of my favorite bands break up, but CRAP RAP seems to last forever!
I remember this album. For me it was their best, they left the hair band in the past and showed themselves as really good musicians. The album was divided in three parts, the third one was my favourite.
He always comes up w/ melodic leads, doesn't he? and what's even more amazing is that all his lead parts sound unique and full of expression. Not to mention his technical abilities... He's a very good musician.
i just heard this song recently, and i love the melody and lyrics. it strikes my heart. lol. its just sad that im only 8 yrs old that time and im a girl
Nuno is all feeings to his works, he doesn't exaggerate by shredding or fast playing, just gives the song what it deserves, so great value, a real musician, He's da best, a god guitarist.
harmony in this album is so queen-like. extreme is the extreme. and 3-side is so underrated.

i don`t care,
i think the best music came from the 90`s
and i think most bands had the most sucsess in the 90`s
like Pearl Jam with "Ten", Megadeth with "Countdown To Extinction", and Guns N` Roses with "Use Your Ilusions I & II"
