Normal firearms don't need batteries, High Voltage charging systems, or anything else.

No outside support equipment is needed for say, a handgun.

With Conventional firearms, the "power supplies" are fully self-contained. We call them "Rounds", but most of the time we just say Bullets. All the power of a conventional gun comes from the gun powder in the shell.

With Coil-guns the power comes from a power supply attached by an umbilical cord. Very cumbersome and clumsy to wield.

@DrGoodwrench64 they can also be more powerful and have a variety of ammo that can be used in a pinch and you dont have to worry about using a smaller round and it slipping through and destroying the weapon... even so i think lasers would be better for the future.... but eventually both will be miniaturized......but the rail/coil gun is good for gunships

Thats a fucking coil gun and not a rail gun.The rail gun uses two charged rails and the lorentz effect between them.A coil gun is an electromagnetic coil that switches of before the bulett reaches the middle so it retains the momentum.Railguns are higher tech, with better electric-kinetic energy conversion rates but more technical problems such as deformation, heating precise rail aligment etc. almost impossible to make as DIY altough US navy experiments with rail guns.(full size of course)

yes. but I don't know if it is better. I don't think there's a big difference (hardly measurable) but technically magnet wire should be better because you can have more turns and so the magnetic field would be stronger.
