I remmember this typhoon they wouldnt let anyone on or off base and you had to wear your flak and kevlar just to go outside and smoke a stogey. This was the worst typhoon that Oki has went through since 07 all the ones after that were weak.

Yeah you guys get hit a lot. It always goes through Oki into Kyushu then it goes around us here in Kansai and usually dies off in Tokyo.

What base are you on?

Why no duct tape on the windows? I was there from 91-94 on Kinser, we had to tape a big "X" on our windows to keep them from breaking.

Everything shuts down on base, but out "in town" it's life as normal, the bars stay open.....nothing like bar hoping during a typhoon.

I was stationed at camp schwab as a facilites engineer (electrician) I along with a handfull of others were the only ones able to go out in the typhoon those winds are no joke. The tidal waves were something marvelous to watch.

no the GED is not allowed in the Marines

it has to be your high school diploma. no questions aked!

98% Of marines must have a High School Diploma, the other 2% can join with GEDs. If you score super high on your ASVAB you increase your chances obviously.

Or you can get 15 college credits(which is nothing) and your GED will count as a standard diploma.

That reminded me of the hurricane warning we had on the Island, and we all had to pull the footlockers to the center of the squadbay and sit there while the sirens howled. When we finally got the "all clear", we had to wade through thigh-high water in front of the chow hall just to get to lunch XD.

Restricted to barracks...what fun...not. Never seen a Typhoon. Only seen tornados in tornado alley. Nature is pretty awesome. The cooler looking it gets the more dangerous. We loved it when the skies turned purple and green. It always meant we were in for some really cool storms. Amazing wind there.

One time we were staying at a hotel during a huricane, and these media guys pulled into the front driveway and pulled up the hatch on the back of their SUV, and the wind popped their whole back windshield out. Broken glass was everywhere. Be carefull near the window.
