  • GROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVY!!!!!

  • That mach 1 sounds nice

  • Mister Mort?

  • psicodelic sources....

  • Groovy ad!

  • Yeah, Peter didn't do Yellow Submarine. He was supposed to, but it didn't work out. A few years ago, George Harrison said that Peter had made a career from having done Yellow Submarine, when he hadn't. (Not the exact words). Peter did just fine on his own....

  • I won a bikini designed by Peter Max in this contest!

  • I'll take the car or stereo

  • Wow, what a psychedelic ad

  • Definitely not in the style of Peter Max but it is in the style of Yellow Submarine--which is not Peter Max.

  • wtf asshole you niggers bleh this user tastes like shit we le ma do

  • and 1st prize for the 7up contest: 7 sheets of blotter acid !!!!!!!!

  • wow, that commercial was trippy.

and therefore I give it my seal of approval.

  • I think I remember this commercial from the late '70s. 1979?

  • my God that really was the 60's

  • i love the loose dialogue. the uh's make it so informal i love it

  • I wish it was the 60's, I wish we could be happy, I wish, I wish, I wish, that something would happen.

  • ZOWIE

  • The deeply expressionist animation style that later became known as "psychedelic" was actualy, as far as I know, pioneered by Harry Smith in the 1940s, but was only minimally popular for 20 years.

  • Appeal to that Yellow Submarine/Beatle market!!!

  • well if paul likes it, then I'm all for it :)

  • Peter Max did not design Yellow Submarine. It looks exactly like his art, but Heinz Edellman was the art director.

  • R.I.P Heinz

  • I may be imagining this, but wasn't there a similar 7Up commercial with a tune/song? It may have been slightly later, 70 or 71, but I definitely remember a psychedelic 7Up commercial with some variation of the "de lemon/de lime" song. Any thoughts?

  • "Excuse me while I kiss the sky!"

  • I don't like the announcer. He's trying too hard to sound "off the cuff" and it's annoying.

  • I think they were trying to be hip with the anti-materialistic bs while still trying to wet the greed

  • Announcer almost sounds a bit like Rod Serling from The Twilight Zone (with maybe a bit of Tom Bosley to keep it folksy)

  • eee boats eee beach buggy, STEREO....

Who the hell is Mr. Morgue? :/

  • Skiing in Chile? Far out!

  • Wow! Did anyone actually get a prize, like skiing in Chile? Interesting.

  • This is groovy man.

  • WITH HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN Syrup- very Man made sugar

  • Sit back, relax and float down stream.....

  • Like, oh wow, man! All is totally groovy!

  • Actually, the one responsible for the art direction and character designs of 'Yellow Submarine', was Heinz Edelmann, not Peter Max.

  • Right... poor Heinz Edelmann, often mistaken for Peter Max. Incidentally, I believe this commercial was produced by the now-defunct Ovation Films in NYC. I used to work there as a kid. If I can remember correctly this was one of the spots on their portfolio reel. I wish I had kept my hands on one of those. It was chock FULL of great animation like this!

  • Not only Endelman but what about Milton Galser, and tons of other great artists of this era who's work is shamfully labelled as Max's!

  • yeah, this is very similiar to yellow submarine, but the info needs to be changed. to correct popular belief, peter max did not do the yellow submarine animation. but he did alot of other cool stuff

  • you can see the influence of too much oxygen to the brain in this too.or not enough.whats it gonna be man.

  • try artistic vision

  • okay WHAT the HELL just HAPPENED!

  • Heh, heh... the first one's free...

  • Wow! This is awesome!

  • absolutely..i was waiting for the blue meanies to come out..lol

  • George dunning did yellow submarine not peter max.

    -luke.

  • mustang mach 1 ...wow what a dream car

  • This is clearly more influenced by YELLOW SUB than Peter Max, who did NOT work on YELLOW SUB but was glad to take credit when that assumption was made.

  • A world where everyone takes acid would look like this.

  • Who is Mr Mortz?

  • Did he say skiing in Chile? I never knew Chile was a ski destination in the 60s.

  • Yes, in the 40´s decade, Portillo is open. The oldest ski center un latinamerica

  • Thanks, that's interesting. It's not something we heard about in Europe.

  • once a soda or fast food company co-opts a subculture, that's when you know it's truly over.

  • Introducing a new 7 Up flavor... trippy acid!

  • You got to do your own thing (Oh)

Don't be just the same (Oh)

    Get the party jumping (Oh)

    The way you like (Oh)

You got to do your own thing (Oh)

And dance your own way (Oh)

    Go a little crazy (Oh)

Cuz you got the right (Oh)

  • Peter Max did NOT do the art style for Yellow Submarine, Heinz Edelmann did the psychadelic artwork for the film

  • looks like it was done by the same people that did yellow sub

  • He said "skiing in Chile"?

  • Groovy psychadellic commercial. I remember it too. :)

  • That Mustang is a 69 model!

  • I'll take the Mustang.

  • i'd like the fastback too! Mustangs are cool!

  • remember the green bottles? 7up!

  • I heard that one time, in like 1967, Ken Kesey and the Merry Pranksters snuck into the 7 Up factory and spiked a vat of 7 Up with mescaline. And a bunch of people drank it and freaked out, and sued 7 Up. And then as part of the settlment, 7 Up had to give all of these products away, like Mustangs and boats and stuff, which led to this commercial.

  • Who was Mr. Mort?

  • Mach I? RADICAL!

  • lol, back when it was called the "uncola" I didn't live through it but got some tapes from back them that are my parents

  • peter max had nothing to do with yellow submarine

  • You are dead wrong about that, he was THE dude for that cartoon.

  • The animation of Yellow Submarine has sometimes falsely been attributed to the famous psychedelic pop art artist of the era Peter Max; the film's art director was in fact Heinz Edelmann. Edelmann, along with his contemporary Milton Glaser, pioneered the psychedelic style for which Max would later become famous, as quoted in the book Inside the Yellow Submarine by Robert Hieronimus and Laura Cortner (2002) (ISBN 0-87349-360-5), Max had nothing to do with the production of Yellow Submarine."

  • OK,Just to clarify:Max did the design drawings for Yellow Submarine. The money was not correct and he walked off. Edelmann in fact did complete the animation, but using Max's designs. I have been to Max's studio many times, there on his desk is a small sculpture of the sub itself. Doesn't he get credit for the original designs, he created and invented the characters and scenery !

  • That maybe true but the horrible movie caligula was actually directed by Tinto bass with Bob Guccione heling in the production. Bass leaves cause things are going his way and Bob Guccione is given credit. Thats how history works, I suppose : /

  • CORRECTION TO ABOVE TYPOS::::

That maybe true but the horrible movie caligula was actually directed by Tinto bass with Bob Guccione helping in the production (money). Bass leaves cause things arent going his way and Bob Guccione is given credit. Thats how history works, I suppose : /

  • That was a great movie

  • That was a great movie

  • I'm sorry, but Peter Max had absolutely nothing to do with Yellow Submarine. He did not do original design drawings and was never hired in any capacity to work on the project. It is quite possible that his work INFLUENCED the look of the film, but that is all.

  • Have Peter agree with your statement or it's bunk.

You'll find he won't, because it is false, and if your statement gets too much press it may result in a defamation lawsuit with Edelmann as rightful plaintiff.

  • I agree with you Jim - my statement is aimed at "artbargainer" who's full of shit here.

  • I wish you wouldnt use words like full of shit. As previously stated, I have been a Peter Max representing vendor for 30 years and have had many private conversations with Peter Max and his staff. He did in fact draw the designs and then left because he thought the money was wrong. Edelmann completed the film, and was credited for it. You can say what you want. Edelmann went off the deep end and Max is a billionaire artist businessman today.

  • @artbargainer I wish you wouldn't use words like billionaire unless it's actually true. Despite the impressions some people have of their favorite entertainers having unlimited wealth, very few entertainers are actually billionaires. There's Oprah, and Paul McCartney, and...who else? Martha Stewart at one point but I think not anymore. Trump maybe, but he's an entertainer because he's a billionaire (if true) - he didn't become a billionaire by being an entertainer.

  • @klusterset90001

Its actually true. Max is a billionaire artist , so is LeRoy Neiman, Yaacov Agam, and Damien Hirst,,according to their close staff. I know Max, Neiman and Agam over 30 years. Hirsts wealth was published in the papers..

  • And what are your credentials ?

  • And why would Max have a Yellow Submarine sculpture on his desk ?

  • I was going to answer this guy, but if he's going to be so naive as to ask a question like that, he's either baiting me or perhaps the dimmest, most vacuously naive individual in the world. I know quite a few art dealers, coincidentally. One bought three original Dali lithographs from me this past February; let's check YOUR credentials; who are *you*?

  • i wouldnt mind the mach 1

  • Heinz Edelmann did Yellow Submarine, not Peter Max. Most likely though, this have been done by someone associated with Milton Glaser who was doing this stuff before both of them. I wish commercials were like this today--very fun.

  • This must be from November or December given that "Yellow Submarine" didn't premier in the U.S. until Nov. 13 (and this commercial is an obvious exploitation of that).

  • acid.
