  • Now no one has a legitimate argument over the use of stem cells, if they can be obtained from unfertilized eggs that would be otherwise flushed. Come on now, these stem cells are not coming from fetuses... if an unfertilized egg is considered life, does that mean all women must have unprotected sex once a month from they day of there first period to avoid reckless abandonment charges? And any guy that ejaculates without targeting an egg also reckless abandonment?

  • I'm picturing some female researcher getting the idea to look at her menstrual blood under a microscope. Discovery!

  • I would like my own organ bank account someday. Forget the donor lists.

  • It's great to see all these people in favor of stem cell research. However, the fact that this was in New York likely biased it, and I wouldn't be surprised if a majority in more conservative parts were against it.

  • I don't know where in the bible it says to not grow hearts and lungs lol. I think as long as were not cloneing people and just organs, bones etc. its totally fine and very useful :). I'm a Christian btw :D

  • If I were to get a new nose using mentrual stem cells would I get a monthly nose-bleed?? *cymbal shot*

  • FUCK YEAH!!! Who cares if its from pussy? It has the potential to save lives, and that's all that matters. Now I wanna know. if you're a woman, like this if you feel blessed knowing your vagina can save lives.

  • Leave the cells in my stem alone.

  • Stem cell research has not been legalized because many people feel it is morally wrong to use the egg since it has already been fertilized. However, stem cell research has the capabilities to provide people with NEW eyes, brains, bones, and even hearts. Cloning uses copies of old cells...which are weaker and die just as fast if not faster because old cells gradually lose their ability to fix mistakes made in DNA that carries out basic life processes.

  • The purest form of stem cells are found in a fertilized egg (which is one female's egg+one male's sperm). As previously stated, fertilized eggs usually form babies after 9 months of ovulation while in a mother's womb, but the question remains at which prenatal stage do we consider the fertilized egg a living soul.

  • Basically, that means that trillions of sperm are simply wasted.

Similarly, the female human body is capable of making around 400 eggs. Most women with normal menstrual cycles release only one egg every month. This egg is only used when it becomes fertilized by a male (thus, she becomes pregnant) That means, one egg is wasted by every women with a menstrual cycle in the world every month until she reaches the last of her eggs ( thus, menopause).

  • STEM CELL RESEARCH:

I approve of stem cell research. I am a teenager, and I believe in God.

Men begin making sperm at young ages, and they continue releasing old sperm and replacing them with millions more sperm daily for most of their lives.

Look above for the rest :p.

  • i don't agree with abortion if your one of those kind of women who keep laying down opening your legs and not using any protection and every time you get pregnant you run and get an abortion, thats not cool but on the other hand, i'd rather see a woman get an abortion and get rid of a child she don't won't than kill it when it arrives in this world cause she didn't want it in the first place, thats harsher than abortion cause thats a living breathing, being now, that didn't ask to be here

  • The end made me really LOL

How did I not see that coming XD

  • We should, and WILL, do whatever we can...and that's just the way it is...and THAT is good. Science is good, and religion is on the way out, if humans last long enough, that is.

  • love this show talks about all kinds of things

im for stem cells take them from abortions, a death into a life, sounds good to me.

  • WOW no stupid republicans

  • I can feel the stupidity in the air.

  • Abortion is legal, so why shouldn't stem cell research be? If you give scientists the chance to further explore the method, you would be able to repair all kinds of tissue damages, and people with a damaged spinal cord or something would be able to live a normal life again.

  • Planet of the apes. What about cloning for malicious purposes?

  • No tits :(

    Show more skin

  • why she always do research in new york TS?

  • she's called the resident. she lives in nyc that's her stint.

  • I'm against the animal experiments more than this thing, i'm against the war on Irak over the past 18 years!

  • nd im not against it.. jus ppl need 2 kno the subject before dey say shit.. nd i dont kno shit bout the fuckin stem cell shit.. but i kno they aint makin no cures for the human living heart or anything else by testin it on fake shit.. thats jus common sense.. listen 2 da song channel zero by cannabis haha.. listen 2 da lyrics

  • oh ye they dont use animals !!! lmao they use it on artificial hearts nd shit.. thats gonna lead 2 a solution 2 the real thing.. come on lady.. please.. motherfucker you cant get a real answer unless you experiment wit the real thing.. you cant say you have a cure for the human heart desiese jus cuz it works wit lab rats nd shit.. its like makin a paper ball nd injecting it wit sum solution nd den sayin its progress.. der r always sacrifices.. ON ANIMALS.. ND HUMANS.. dont play yourself

  • my wife just started her period

  • Stem cell research is wonderful, it's progress.

  • Here (Finland) we grew a jawbone from stem cells for a cancer patient who had hes jawbone destroyed by cancer

    world's first ! :D

  • I heard from NPR radio that Stem Cells can be extracted from Umbilical cords after childberth.

  • I wonder why people are against the use of aborted fetuses? Can anybody enlighten me why people or with which arguments people are against this. They have been aborted, so they will be "thrown" away, so why can't scientist take the valuable cells from it that can cure spinal cord injuries or any type of tissue damage?

  • I enjoy theresident's enthusiasm on the issue, but I think it's troublesome that she asks the opinion of people that do not have any idea about the issue. You shouldn't give people basic information on such a complex issue (like the first interviewee), then ask them to give his opinion based on that amount of information. To then take the issue to: are you grossed out by menstrual blood, oversimplifies. I hope people take any video about stem cells and take their research beyond youtube.

  • ahh..that guy in the camo jacket is mighty good looking. who is he?! haha

  • Better they research on dead fetuses than living animals... Buts its all a logical step foreward...

  • Wow. This is a pretty ignorant and tastless interview.

  • Stem-cell research has continued unstopped thoughout the entire debate. The government will not stop the research. The true debate is over whether the 'Federal' government should help fund it. Private funding has allways been there.

  • shouldn't be gross cause you came from a vagina anyway.

shouldn't be wrong cause chicks lose it every month so may as well use it to save lives.

    why not.

  • I like her interviews...

  • i agree she very one sided and shes always contradicting herself.i don't know why i keep watching her videos, maybe just to see how America see the world, better than those happy freaks on CNN!

"1Million are left homeless in Chicna,But theres no rain here!!HURAH!!"

  • so ok lets get stem cell from menstral sell and not use abourted babies anymore simple right?

  • i am against embryonic stem cell research, but! if this is for real and scientists have found a way to harvest stem cells from other places like from a chick's period then i say full steam ahead even though it may seem gross because it could and probably will save lives

  • y r u against it?

  • im just against harvesting an unborn fetus for "research", if they found another way then i say go for it

  • u still havent answered my question....

i asked, y r u against? ur response is, "im just against harvesting an unborn fetus for "research"."

but y??? and y do u say "researh"? r u too against heart transplants?

  • why would i be against heart transplants? ... its just that my definition of life is it begings at conception, i just use terms like fetus' and haresting so that ppl wont freak but to me its killing a unborn baby... get mad at me if you want haha, i dont care

  • Menstrual Stem Cells? Are menstrual stem cells more bloated and bitchy then regular stem cells? Is it passed on? No thanks. I'd rather die.

  • THEN KILL YOURSELF RIGHT NOW!

  • The big ethical dilemma in this case is are you willing to let people die of diseases that can be cured with stem cells to save face with a god who may not exist, and when you realize what year it is thats just plain silly.

  • it's been a while, but it's good to see you outside... good job...

  • Holy crap you guys, thanks for respecting my opinion so much, and thanks for taking every thing wrong I said, like "yellowflowers", that is totally not what I meant, didn't I say helping people is right- oh yeah I did, so thank you.

  • Now that's a slanted video.

  • Who give a flying rat's fart about some words supposedly said by some supposedly divine guy 3000 years? Science is science, knowledge is knowledge, whether it's beneficial or harmful, what will happen is going to happen. The whole pro vs against thing is a complete waste of time.

  • This video dissappoints me. I can not believe how many people think abortion is right and stem cell research is for the greater good. I mean of course you wanna help people, I am not saying that. but I just think it is wrong to play God and it seems like it is leading to that. If people would read the bible more, they would know that playing God isn't a good idea.

  • Man shut the fuck up!

Did you ever think that not everybody believes in God???????? So you saying that abortion or stem cell research is wrong because you think God says it's wrong is dumb!

  • yeah that's right CHARANE1988. Why don't you stop taking medicine for the rest of your life, and never schedule a medical appointment again. And if you have a loved one that is having a heart attack, or one that you just found unconscious and barely breathing. DON'T DO ANYTHING. Because that would be playing god, now wouldn't it be?

  • How is wanting to save peoples lives playing god. Isnt god about helping those in need and to help the sick, so why wouldn't we want to use stem cells.

  • I am absolutely NOT arguing with any of the points you've made, I agree that stem cell research is incredibly beneficial, but I'm curious to know, out of however many interviews you took, how many were against your point of view? Why not show those? You have a wonderful program and I absolutely enjoy tuning in and seeing new episodes, but showing the other side is okay too.

  • A baby's heart starts beating at 3 weaks old.

  • the first guy, if you werent hot, he woulda told you to fuck off.

  • I consider the religious viewpoint of stem cell research [via embryonic harvesting] to be a valid opinion, and a good challenge for the scientific community. If they look in other directions, we could potentially come up with MANY alternatives for stem cell harvesting, and menstrual blood is just another option. Sometimes restrictions give us more opportunity for advancement.

  • with an overpopulated world is being against abortions still a good thing¿

  • I don't consider abortion good or bad in general. It's up to the mother and father, and my opinion should not convince them otherwise; thus should be the idea globally, but who's gonna stand up for Individuality when they feel their opinion is "the best?"

Overpopulation is a probable issue, and I feel that sometimes, we must accept death, rather than save a life.

  • DONATE YOUR USED TAMPONS!!

  • Well, if you know the whole process of making stems cells out of menstrual blood, perhaps most of us won't be gross out. It's the same as "toilet to tap" program, even though the water treated is drinkable, but it won't go to the tap water, it goes to the river, where we get the water and then treated it for tap water.

  • At least 5 moody bitches don't seem to agree. LOL

  • I think it's very shallow to blame religion for opposition to embryonic stem cell research. You don't have to be religious to value and respect life, and realize that it's unnecessary to destroy embryos to harvest stem cells. Adult stem cells have been scientifically proven to be just as useful as embryonic stem cells. I think we need to be much for respectful of the power of science and technology, or else GATTACA will be a best-case scenario for our future.

  • I agree with you on both points. There are people out there that do not practice religion that also value and respect life. Also, in addition to adult stem cells, placental stem cell research has resulted in treatment of 80 diseases of children most notably anemia, leukemia, and lymphoma. (Source: The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society web site.)

    Great comment!

  • i think you benifits are greater the the nagitve.

  • i dont agree with killing babies but most were aborted and going to be destroyed anyway.

and religion has held back progress for to long. and if we can clone and improve on "GODS" designes than go for it.

  • I'm sure all of the German Doctors in Nazi Germany probably said the same thing during WWII. They were going to be killed anyway so why not do human experiments on them.

  • i dont disagrea. and think we should test on crimanals. let the bad help the good. but the fetuses were not killed foe stem cell they were aborted and going to be burned.

  • Theres disadvantages to this. People are going to be more careless with health... Who cares if I smoke a pack or two a day, I'll just have new lungs grown. Who cares if I drink too much and kill my liver, I'll have a new one grown! Its great for cancer and MS and many many other health problems, but it could be abused. Even worse example, I'll eat as much McDonalds as I want, if I get heart problems or have a heart attack, I'll just have 'em grow me a new one!

Is no one else realizing this?

  • good research haha¡¡

and it´s good to that alternative can help as much as embrion cells well i dunno how u call that....mmm...when the baby comes out and they take cells from the tube, well its good to know

  • ----------- and .

  • Bush is a clone.

  • These amoral corporations may or may not violate people's moral feelings about stem cells, fetus', menstrual blood or human replication...but we should all be outraged that they perpetuate economic slavery and medical care for the rich. That is inhuman.

  • yea, poor people should come up with cures for disease and then use 'uptrickle' economics to spread the 'werd'.

You wan't "free health care" but you don't like big corporations. Ha, what a bunch of two faced dumb flicks.

  • You sir, are an outrage.

  • I don't have anything against the science behind the research, but who is funding the science and why are they funding it...because curing people is big big big business. If people want to live cancer and disease free, let's invest in clean air water and food. Securing the sanctity of human life doesn't involve blocking technology, but it does involve taking down corporate profit machines that make their money from people who need help.

  • Wow, you are all over the fuckin place.

  • Goddamn it! Listen, the real reason to be against stem cell research is because it's a corporate medical machine product. Who do you think is going to have access to these technologies? Anyone that can pay.

  • In the beginning it won't be available to everyone. But slowly, like television, computers and mobile phones, it will be. That's how it goes.

  • There are some strange societies that eat the unfertilized eggs of animals, everyday, for breakfast.

  • cancers? yu tell me

  • any cure stem cll

  • menstrual cycle = u r a nyc stem cell

  • "Coming from a chick's period?"

Ms. Resident. Uh, you're coming down to our level.

  • What a bunch of morons. These people probably vote.

  • hahaha.. PERIOD

  • Just wanted to tell you that I really support your show - it's smart without being overwhelming for people who may not know a lot about a certain issue. If you ever have time to respond, how did you get started? Anyways, great job!!

  • Thanks so much Sandra!

  • Yeah I dont see anything wrong with stem cell research. All these pious christians are nuts if they oppose it. Um but my only concern is exponential population growth. The earth is already becoming severly overpopulated. Historically speaking people do bad in large numbers...

  • i knew ud say period at the end. lol and its Singapore doing research haha.

  • Yeah, it was too easy, haha.

  • i love my computer

  • This is really one sided...... just like the news on TV..... LAME!!!

  • The Resident: Are you going to donate some of your Menstrual cycle for stem cell harvesting?

  • I would be happy to make some money off my freakin period. However, I don't like Stem cell just because we already have a population problem and if we prolong life, population problems will just get worse. That sounds horrible, but it's true.

  • i'm all for it Res. .. Period.

  • I dont think u should be against it cause they take it from abortions.

Im totaly for stem cell research and anything that helps save lives and help end so many painfull periods in sick ppls lives

  • JUST WASH IT FIRST!

  • Interesting.... gives me a new argument against my terribly religious friend.

  • It is a beautiful video

  • Did you buy stock in this company?? hehe

  • Haha, saw the ending coming, but it was still good.

  • haha, thanks!

  • As for abortion, God definately isn't pleased by the fact they happen, but in certain instances they're neccessary.

Just so everyone knows, it's Chrstians like that (if they can so be called) who almost make me hesitate to mention my faith. I could go on about this, but there's a limit on comments.

    All glory to the Resident!

  • About clones not being in God's plan:

Didn't he command humans to spread life across the planet?

Also, all of our actions are just carrying out God's ultimate plan. I believe if we start successfully cloning humans, we wouldn't be going against anything in this plan and we'd still be adding life to the planet. As long as they didn't use these clones for acts of violence, I'd be fine.

  • I am for looking for stem cells elswhere....but did you know that stem cells are also in the bone marrow? This has been known longer than the stem cell debate has been going on, so why do we still want to get cells from embryos? I am against embryonic stem cell research, but I'm all for the research in bone marrow and menstrual cells.

  • Really... this issue isnt about religion. Like the whole "abortion" thing. I'm against it, but not because of my religion... Its not like i think God will smite or anything. Same, with Stem cells. I'm still on the fence with it, it has nothing to do with my religion. Its more of the case of pushing the boundaries of moral/ethical standards. Though that one lady that was talking about "if your child was sick" made an excellent point. I guess time will tell.

  • I ask you a question which is mind boggling to me at least. What came first religion or morality? Lori you should do a topic on that :D

  • definitely a good one! :)

  • haha no idea... nobody knows? Though, you can be moral without being religious no?

  • haha no idea... nobody knows? Though, you can be moral without being religious no?

  • That's exactly right, but so many religious people disagree.

    Which makes them idiots, IMO.

  • Wow! It's always eye opening to see how stupid people are on this and other issues. Stem cell research is NOT illegal in the U.S. GOVERNMENT funded research on stem cells farmed from aborted children is illegal in the U.S. A distinction that is important to note. To date stem cell research promises results but has not delivered, except for adult stem cells. Menstral S.C. research seems a cheeper/faster/reliable way to get usable stem cells that produce benefits. Turn in your tampons girls!

  • Grrr! Damn religions!

Come on people!! The age of religion is over!

  • I am split on the whole thing. Its like I support both. I want a woman to be able to choose, I just dont want her to choose abortion you know? And I figure, if she is going to be having an abortion anyway, why not use that to save a life instead of scraping it into the trash? I mean I really dont like abortions cause I think if ur not ready for a baby u should just keep ur legs closed, but if ur gonna do it anyway why not save a life from it?

  • Because it's rationalizing a bad thing, plus it DOESN'T save lives yet. Nor will it for the forseeible future the way they sell it to us. Adult stem cells as apposed to embryonic S.C. is making all the medical break-throughs. I can get into that.

  • I like your point, if people don't want children, then don't have sex, it's 100% effective in defense against pregnancy. But, I don't think I could test something that once was living, I could hardly make it through AP bio on dissecting something. So I am agianst all testing on embryonic cells, there are plenty of other places to get stem cells. Great use of logic btw!

  • That's such a good point!

"Saving actual lives is better than saving potential lives."

    Suck on that Bush!

  • "Suck on that Bush!"

No thanks, I'm trying to cut back on bush sucking.

    I know they were talking about periods before, but a comma would prolly change your statement from an oral sex sex command, to one that more closely conveys a derogatory message against person named Bush. Try it this way;

    "Suck on that, Bush!"

  • If your mind wanders to yourself literally sucking Bush, hey that's your deal....

Otherwise, keep your pointless grammar lessons to yourself.

  • I love your ending. Period.

  • Vaginas... is there anything they can't do?

  • An embryo at such an early stage is not a human and if it's not placed in the womb it will not survive and it will not become a human being. If it saves live's you can't complain!

  • Sadly your demographic is in NYC. Come to Florida I bet you get a slightly different bent. Because down here in the South we don't like this edumuhcation on stems or whatever!

  • I live in Florida and I'm for it. Please don't generalize.

  • I'm sorry I'll be P.C. for you, rather than use deliberate exaggeration to emphasize my point, for those that can't see that, what i meant to say is; Southern states and bible belt states are where it seems to be more difficult to garner support for stem cell research. Lori please come down to Florida (an example of said obtuseness) and try and find evidence of the same logic that you find in a more diversified region such as NYC. Is that better?

  • I'm all for Stem cells from Period blood!!! I love you Lori!!!

  • it would be interesting to ask those who oppose it whether they would accept treatments developed from stem cell research if they become available?

  • dude, most people wont accept acupuncture...but they will accept the FDA pills, remember Phen-Phen?

If you put a white smoc on it and endorse it with the FDA, people will ride it to liver cancer or a heart attack until it's time for their significant other to file a malpractice lawsuit.

  • I heard you can inject sperm into a woman's vagina and create a new human being.

  • nope thats impossible. how would sperm in a woman's vagina create anything?

  • Thats just the first stage. The second stage is that she has to thrust her hips in back and forth kind of way to shake the sperm cells around. The third and final stage is that she has to go "ooohhh-babby" and the sperm donor has to say "I love you" and not really mean it. Thats how you create a baby.

  • I really want some research done with stem cells because A) Do women use menstrual blood? B) Do people use a dead fetus?

If you answer no to either question, there is no problem. That's just my mentality, anyway. *-* I guess people just don't feel comfortable using a fetus, but I have to go with my gut.

  • I'm not religious at all,and I oppose abortion and stem research which requires use of human embryos.

  • id love to see the resident go on road trips to diff. cites in the states and get a broader range of opinion on the questions. im sure stemcells would go over a little differently in Salt Lake City

  • "Religion held back Galileo and Copernicus. and looking back who was right? (Amazing) Now religion is holding back medical science. In the future that fact will amaze people."

Science was in a long winning streak until Bush... Then it all went to hell.

  • Go Stem Cell Research!

  • Wow. Im surprised that a lot of people have a 'don't care' mentality about this kinds of stuff. I kind of figured people thought about it more often than not.

  • I wonder if that pun will ever get old. lol :-)

  • Im glad you are informing people. Kudos.

  • They wash the blood so there is no vagina on it.....too funny Lori

  • wakka wakka!

  • nicee

  • who else giggled when the black guy jus happened to say period?

  • this video is very educational, 5 stars!

  • Religion held back Galileo and Copernicus. and looking back who was right? (Amazing) Now religion is holding back medical science. In the future that fact will amaze people.

  • ahahahahahahahaha stem cells found in menstrual blood cell. Todays medicine would do anythyng to find the new ways of saving ones life!

  • I think we'll keep finding less controversial sources for stem cells. The work with umbilical cords is very interesting.

  • .

    .

    .

    .

  • great show, but please quit the "period"..;)

  • Haha.. "That's wonderful, because I'm all for abortion."

  • a kiss kiss Theresident

    It is a beautiful video

    Bye

  • Hi the Resident

  • Not really a cross section of US opinion now is it . . .

  • There is no argument. If you want to look at it from a religious view, we were blessed with reason which STEMS intuition, intrigue, and incisiveness. "Give a man a fish, feed him for a day ..." We are offered the map, the information is there. We would be fools not to embrace it. Think about the person that ate the first chicken egg. "Oh, what's this? Look my dear, this animal just crapped the bloody orb. Whether God, or just dumb luck, offers us incite we must take it.

  • Fuck morals. My life is way to precious to me, not my doubtful afterlife!

  • morals protect your life. think about it.

  • Not necessarily! I live a highly unstable, restless and reckless life! I do want medicine to cure my currently obtaining losses, which will hurt me in the future. I don't want to change gears though.. Is this such a crime?!

  • "In conformity with the principles of our Constitution...we have proposed no professor of divinity; and the rather as the proofs of the being of a God...the author of all the relations of morality, and of the laws and obligations these infer, will be within the province of the professor of ethics to which adding the developments of these moral obligations...," Thomas Jefferson in the Report of the Commissioners for the University of Virginia (4 Aug 1818)

  • Just remember congress and the president is only hung up on government financing of stem cell research. Private companies have been working with stem cells for over the past 20 years. That is not in the news.

  • Keep doing a great job!!!

    You get people thinking.

  • OMG MICHEAL JORDAN AT 4:20!!

  • hahaha he does look like him

  • the thing i have learned about these political points is that the general public opinion changes drasticly based on where you are. You are standing in New York City (where i come from) and in my opinion new yorkers are very open minded and liberal but if you went to some farm country town in texas the general public opinion there will be different. Ofcourse i am stereotyping but i believe new yorkers are well informed and well educated in general. Republicans lack open minded education.

  • I think basically anyone who thinks a glorified zygote should get to live over a sapient person has a seriously diseased mind and I sincerely hope anti-abortionists all get a disease that requires stem cells to treat it lol ...oh but they'll just be dumb enough to live in fantasy land where they trick themselves into thinking they'll get into Heaven even though Jesus more or less said "you can try & get in my club but it sure as fuck ain't likely" or something about passing through a needle-head

  • ...But menstrual stem cells and embryonic stem cells are two significantly different things, embryonic ones are far more valuable. Uh oh well, so anyway, yeah, they can medically give me period blood stem cells any day, I don't even think it's gross in any way whatsoever ...I think periods are gross [ mostly as a slap in the face to any dumbass bitchy feminist / female superiority advocates who might be reading this :] but not the use of period blood cells which is actually pretty cool

  • May Gaia herself strike you down .... BLASPHEMER!
