Unless you can take some crap in the beginning, you won't get good.

if you can complete the main game on extreme quite easily then you can be good at online but its much harder then the main game, when i started i didnt know what to do and i was level 0 and i was going in matches with ppl around level 13 and i was being destroyed but when i went againt ppl around my level it got easier and i was winning, now am level 9 and i can win some matches against ppl above my level, you just have to build your skill up against ppl around your level and you should be fine.

Tho I dont own the game or ever played it, Youre pretty good, A shotgun is advised for such a stage like that, unless that hallway part where a guy took u down with the M4 while u retaliated with a pistol O_o, back in MGO1, everyone complained bout the shotgun -_-, and the XM16E1 was a pwner. Shotgun is fairly weak in this MGO, but it knocks your opponent back, sometimes sends them straight off their feet so its weak, but allows you to take them down without being shot back... if your close up...

Thats SOP, you can see your team where ever they are with it. When someone shoots you but you escape, they will then be highlighted for a short time in the same way.
