It's balanced, yes we have Jets (that can rarely drop bombs due to civilians), Armoured Vehicles (Which are vulnerable to IEDs), and better equipment, but they have no rules, they have no uniform, and they have enough local knowledge to pick the best ambush spots.

They aren't just people picking up AK 47s, they train, usually in Pakistan or in the places we can't easily get to (Usually Pakistan now as there aren't many places left in Afghanistan where the Taliban are safe). As for equipment? The AK-47 is longer ranged than the L85 and has a higher calibre. IEDs can be as large as our jets' bombs. The PKM is powerful and accurate.
Yes, we have better equipment, but theirs is still good enough to give us a fight.
The Taliban were protecting Al Queada, and we asked them to hand them over, they said no, so we asked the UN permission to invade and take over the terrorist training camps (that the Taliban admitted to harbouring) and make sure the country is no longer a threat to our countries. The UN then passed a resolution to allow us to invade. So we did, and now Afghanistan is no longer a threat.
We choose to fight them on our shores or on theirs - we chose theirs.
