Wow, all the comments on the song! I speak fluent Russian and know the song refers to WWII. i chose it because the music gives a specific feeling to the viewer that does not know Russian. What should I have used? Moscow Nights? Dark Eyes/Ochii Chornoye?
Great video... I always wanted to see videos of the Soviet space program growing up as a kid. The space race during the 60s was very exciting and peaked my interest in science. Now we are working together to explore space. I think it's great. Thanks for sharing.
При чём здесь песня "Священная война", звучащая вначале??? Она совершенно о другом, и звучит не в попад, и даже оскорбительно, на фоне кадров об освоение мирного космоса! Даже "назад в СССР" более уместна.
Hi Jurge, I had to make the file smaller to fit on YouTube so that is why the sound quality is bad. As for the choice of the song - I chose it because it has a strong feeling. This was made to create an interest of the Soviet side of the space race for non-Russians.
The early success of Sputnik, Laika, Gagarin and the earliest Cosmonauts gave hope to the Russian people after the devastation of World War II. My museum exhibit is dedicated to the Soviets that fought in World War II.
well, personally i think that flight to the open space means more than sub-orbital flight. sub-orbital flight is a kind of "test". although i do not want to play down role of Alan Shepard in space exploration :-)
The song is called "The War" and performed by the Red Army Chorus. It's a great song, but the quality on here is not so good. Thank you for watching the film and I hope you enjoyed it!

song is sacred war! not back in the ussr! sorry I am obsessed with the ussr so it ticks me off when people make mistakes like that!!

@punkimiko I hope you are not implying this is my mistake! I used the song for its melody and sound, not for the words. It is used for effect!

@suffragettecitizen what do the words have to do I am just saying the song should say
Red army choir - sacred war

Cool video. The only thing is you almost don't have time to read the information on the screen. It is still a cool clip though.

The disc version is better! It's hard for me to make a video decent on YouTube!

Titov was the second Soviet, the first American (though it was a sub-orbital flight) was Alan Shepard.
suffragettecitizen 2 years ago
So, giving some credit to Alan Shepard (my Dad knew him) I say, Shepard was second to fly (but in a sub-orbital flight) and Titov was third.
suffragettecitizen 2 years ago
Titov was fourth; Gus Grissom flew a suborbital mission on July 21, 1961, Titov then flew for a day August 6-7

Thanks for sharing a small part of your collection. Can you post the name (and perhaps lyrics) of the first song in the "About This Video" section?
