holy fuck, i didn't know they were even playing in unison until I actually saw it. the precision and skill is INTENSE. and here I am still struggling over my stupid pentatonic scale playing sixteenths at 130 bpm, sucks to be a noob :(
@OxenOrb Interesting question. Maybe they don't want a metal-on-metal sound all the time, which would likely result from a metal pick. That's just a wild guess though.
Ben litchman is pretty immense, he really knows this song well. You can tell Bumblefoots better and its his song because when the camera does include him, hes not even watching as he taps, hes swaying his head, looking elsewhere, and can play with his hand over the neck aswell, where as ben concentrates and watches what he plays. Thats the difference, great song though!
Yep, that's a thimble that Ben and Ron touching together at the beginning of the video. The metal acts as a fret would on the fretboard and gives the note a clearer sound than just trying to tap it with your finger.
Ben is just a cool Jewish kid that happened to be a fan of Bumblefoot. He took some lessons from him years ago and impressed Ron enough that he asked him to play some shows with him.
Ben got relatively famous for playing the Conan O'Brian Theme on one guitar with two handed tapping. It became so popular that he was asked to go on the Conan show and play it. Which he did.
You are indeed correct! I have a video clip of that performance, and I tried to upload it. Unfortunately, NBC owns the rights to that footage and they won't allow it to be put on Youtube.

In this video, Ben is 18.

The use of the thimble is to get higher notes after the fretboard runs out...like a wammy bar..

If I'm not mistaken, the video was shot by Ben Litchman's family, which is why he's such a focus. Apologies for not having more Ron in this video.
