music is universal, i'm white and english, not only do i play irish harp but i play in an arabic reggae band, music is a universal language that should not have any tribal crap involved. Music crosses all borders, creates friendship and peace. bless up
its funny that a song with this much meaning and feeling should be fought over in a world of broken facts.im not irish or english nor scotish or welsh but in canada im from the closest thing to irish.im from newfoundland a place that was made up of english lies to the irish an scott of great lives and big futures and the one thing that through all the modern Bs that has held on,is the music,600 years ago my name began in ireland and today still sings the songs becouse of there power and meaning
Where did the Romans fight the last battle with the Druids? It was in Wales, on Anglesey after they had been driven to the last corners of what we now know as Britain. If anyone should be considered 'British' or even pre-celtic it is the Welsh.

Scotland was never 'Celtic' it was rules by the Picts. Wales and England were the home of the Celts in Britain. The Irish Celts were later, after the Roman invasion of Britain. The Irish 'Celts' were Christian and not pagan like the ones in Wales and England. If any place is 'Celtic' as you people like to call it, then it's England and Wales. That's why English and Welsh folk music is very similar. You can pretend this isn't true for the sake of your tourist industry.
@Mamtor13 England was invaded and colonised by Saxons and Normans. The ethnic makeup is about 50% Saxon, and the rest a mix of Norman and Celtic. The Irish mix is majority Celtic, with a mix of Norman. So whatever about 3,000 years ago, the Celt is long gone out of the English. That's why English is a Germanic language and Irish is Celtic language.
I hope to have this song sung at my funeral (in a few decades I hope) because it gives the exact message Id like to send, not depressing but just that hint of sadness and memories of past joy
Wow, that actually brought a tear to my eye. Those Dubliners really have wonderful voices and the songs that they sing are so lovely and poetic that I can begin to understand just how bad music has become in the last 20 years.
this is my favorite version of the song good luck to all irish everywhere a nation once again mebe ?
