Super Mario 128 was released. Well... "released", as in they used the two separate mechanics from the tech demo.
All those little Marios were used, and changed, to the game we now know as Pikmin.
The rest was used in Super Mario Galaxy.
... And by the way, that wasn't a trailer (Though many thought it was...). That was a tech demo to show off the Gamecube's processing power.
