I tell ya, I got the lifetime subscription for this game when it came out. Honest to say, I was dreadfully disappointed in so many ways. However, the other day I looked over the various changes made to the game, and it looks like they did a good job with it, so I'm getting back into it. Since it's becoming free to play it should have more players on the servers as well (I assume the servers aren't crashing every 5 minutes anymore either)

@dirtpoorchris Sadly the ground combat level a lot to be desired. The space combat was pretty epic, when you weren't rubber-banding all over the place due to severe lag.

@tobieagle remember the borg have been severely weakened after the events of First contact and Voyager: End Game plus this is supposed to be newer and better technology than that of tng era, I think the game is pretty good but this is america think and say what you want

@tobieagle major Borg cubes in group engagements can take upwards of 2 minutes to kill. Tactical cubes can take 4 minutes. He's just doing this in a minor solo questing area.

Tachyon Beam + Target Shield Subsystems with Auxiliary power around 60 can get shields down almost instantly, without cannons, in a Galaxy Refit. I've never used a Dreadnought.

I play a Tactical officer with points in Deflector science abilities, all the cumulative engineering abilities (like power levels), and points in plain old Phasers and Photon Torpedos.

i just got this game for my birth day and people who gave it to me didn't know had to pay to be online I really rather not have to keep coughing up 14-50 bucks a month just to play. was wandering if it can be played off line as well yes it's still in it's box I haven't opend it yet

@harpy2010 No it cant be. As far as I know the first month is free and you can easily reach maximum level in a month. Its a fun game.

No, you can't play it offline. Thats why its called "Star Trek ONLINE" Also I don't know why everyone keeps saying you can easily get to the max rank in a month, it took me 4 months. Also IMO its worth it and you can pay in 3 month chunks for like 30 bucks I think.

Dude, why weren't you moving your ship? If you just stand there banging away at things they're just gonna bang right back at you. A moving target is always better than a static one. I don't give a damn if you're flying a Galaxy X or a Miranda you're gonna get killed if you just sit there like an idiot.

@Carperius This was in july, give the guy a break man. It's a hard ship either way and yes it is better to move when using ANY ship but some prefer not to. So stop being mean and have fun. Let people do what they want

@Carperius Personally I prefer to be  stationary so DHC can be doing there magic and I only have to worry about my forward shields. It takes me alot less time to break through shields and destroy stuff that way. Its only a preference tho.

Wow. That's about as awful a performance as I've seen. You DO know that stopping increases the damage on you dont you? Also, why weren't you preloaded with weapons specials BEFORE you came out of cloak....and why keep your front pointed at the Cube- the shield drain has a 7.5km range...keep your distance and rotate that boat.....nobody seems to have any skill in this game anymore, just a big Visa card.

@purcellfinancial Have to be facing to use the spinal lance its arc is tiny and the ship turns so badly that turning wouldn't help too much at least not for this video where hes demonstrating the ships abilities.

I've played since day 1 and am not even a Commander, after this I was like wtf am I doing not leveling... I gained one level and went through 3 cups of coffee, and 6 hours. Love not knowing how to level.

@Gloryforge do story missions. Lots. Seriously if you do that it's pretty hard NOT to level :D I havent dont much else and I made captain (stopped playing for a while but am headed back now)

Why is that Cubes are always hilariously underpowered in these games? One cube -- ONE -- most likely outmasses every ship in Starfleet put together, yet they pop like soap bubbles in just about every video, no matter what game it's from. Apparently sometime between Next Gen and these games the Feds gained a massive technological advantage over the Borg.

@WUZLE Yes, by 2409, the Feds have got alot better technology. Plus, in the intro, they talk about how these Borg seem different somehow. Like they're disconnected.

The only thing I don't like about the Borg in STO is that they never give you the classic greeting.

P.S. it wasnt the Plasma dmg that took out your shields, the borg have a shield drain ability that you sadly cannot block
