@BMOCroc: I thought/hoped it was the dongle, I tried the DVI and VGA dongle in a Mac Mini and it worked. So it could be an actual connector problem... but if that's the case, how come switching graphics chip in OSX solve the issue.. please read video description next time :)
Hi praetor3k, I have the exact same problem with my new macbook. Just wondering, have you had any luck fixing it since you posted the video? If so please pass it on!
I've not gone to the Mac Store yet, I use this for development and haven't had the time. The only fix at the moment is always use the more powerful 9600 chip in energy preferences.
This was done using my DVI adapter. I used my VGA adapter on another monitor (as mentioned in the description) and something similar happens.
That leaves the connector on the macbook or the graphics chip. I've switched to the 9600 chip and it works perfectly with both DVI and VGA adapters, through the same (and only) displayport connector.
So the problem is to do with the integrated 9400 video card.
I'm actually considering buying a MBP, but its things like these that make me wary, especially if it's a hardware issue. Did you try it in Windows via Bootcamp? Was the issue still there?
UPDATE: I had the dongle plugged in and during a Software update it downloaded and flashed the firmware of the VGA dongle to 1.03
After some lengthy tests, it looks like IT'S FIXED!!!! :D
Well done Apple!
