There's a turning point like that in every superhero origin movie, and this was it for Iron Man. The track was perfect.

As much as I'd like to agree, the characters face very different challenges. Tony Stark is a much more immature character (i'm not saying he's not deep, I love both of them), he lacks discipline unlike Bruce. That makes him much more flawed, he's also a little less lonely with Pepper and Rhodey alongside him, he also doesn't have extreme rage.

Both characters are great in their own way, and a lot different.

iron man is a true hero to me because he was man enough to give up the whole concept of his previous live, to change it and to push all his energies and potential into a new direction. he made an decission - most other superheroes are just "good" from nature and they dont actually decide to be superheroes. therefore he is the stronger character i think. ;)

The common reader simply cant relate to most characters. Superman is a literal superhuman, with perfect morals and no faults . We have nothing common with him.

Stark is just a man, he loves carnal things, sex, cars, booze. After a trauma he DECIDES to change the world. He invents the tools for it, he actively works to make it happen. Even his faults are human and believeable, substance abuse, ambition, and willingness to use excessive force in the name of the greater good.

@Szgerle That's true. Technically, Tony Stark is disabled. The tragedy that happened to him made him a little more modest. He has to have a reactor core to keep the shards from his heart from killing him. He then redeems and renews himself [listen to 2:46] to the people that he can change the world, as his Dad had tried to pass on knowledge to him. He makes the choice to make better products for mankind, in the second movie, but not the Iron Man suit. He really does change the world.

Those are just... meh. They cant fix the blue boy scout and any tampering with his character is pointless.

On the other hand, Tony Stark is just a human who decides to change to world. He has both the will, the intellect and the good-ish morals to go through with it. Thats why he is a hero. He decides to be one, not being a predestinated good guy. He could sit in his mansion and enjoy luxury all day, yet he is out there in a metal suit changing the world, one enemy at a time.

I love how in Iron Man 2 they showed more of Tony's alcoholism, hopefully it is a major effect on him in Iron Man 3.

@Szgerle I think that the most iconic superheros that were created represent different aspirations that people may have. Superman (Kal El) represents the very best of people, and being superhuman, he uses these abilities selflessly for the greater good of humanity. Iron Man (Tony Stark) represents a growth of character (being defined by his enemies and character faults). He goes from being selfish, reckless, and disingenuous to the complete opposite through this journey (for the most part :)

spiderman is awesome, but it's the heros like Iron Man, Batman, etc, that really get me. They didn't need some spider to bite them to become heroes. That adds a certain reality to it, making it seem possible. Also in Iron Man and Batman, there's detective work that the heroes do, not so much in Iron Man, but it proves that the heroes know what they're doing. Spiderman is fairly shallow in that area. He fights crime and that's it. He doesn't research it. Spider man is still awesome though! haha

@holasweety I don't think of it that way. I don't think Spider-Man needed the spider to bite him. I think the spider needed to bite Peter Parker. It's the other way around. There are sometimes people that know what to do but lack the power, voice, or ability to do so. Well, I think that is the story for Spider-Man. He is given the opportunity to do better through a random event. It's not a fault of character that he has powers, but a vehicle to do greater good :)
