She even waited 4 months before telling me, which has caused me to not be fully prepared for this. I have told her that I want to try and be there the best I can for the kid if it is mine, but as far as financial support, my hands are tired. She even waited 4 months before telling me, which has caused me to not be fully prepared for this. I did calculate dates on the calendar based on her ultrasounds, and she did conceive about a day or so after I was with her last, so it doesn't seem like she's lying to me about possibly being the father.

Rudov is right about DNA paternity testing to be a mandatory element of the birth certification process. More ID is required to get a cell phone or cable TV account. These tests would strengthen family ties in which there is low paternal certainty and correct those with zero paternal certainty.

The want equality only when convenient and to get special privileges whenever it is to their advantage. The paternity test are just simply FAIR. If the man is NOT the father and/or she lied that he was, he should not pay her any child support money. Anything else by the courts is plain injustice and unfair.

Mark is dead on. If they took away the entitlements and women were relegated to making it on their own steam, it makes sense more women would opt out because the costs are so steep.
If women were really interested in fairness they'd only want child support for half of the costs. As it stands it's just back-door alimony. As for "dead beat" dads, the majority make under $30K and cant afford cs obligations. Thats why they often can't pay. Sadly they often end up in debtors prison as a result.
