the jaguar 175lb i bought nearly freakin killed me! Instead of the bolt firing out it flipped upwards allmost going thru my neck..it shatterd into 3 pieces sending shrapnel everywhere. also the string kept turning around the notches. the kick from it was like the back of my head being slapped.Very powerfull ..but cheap and dangerous!

There's no way 150lb recurve produces 310 fps...Everyone of sportmanguide's crossbow adds say they are much faster then they really are...the fastest 150lb recurve was the barnett commando which was 225 fps...But i guess its all about marketing, more fps sells more crossbows

That is a red dot sight on top of the crossbow and has no zoom. Alligning that up alone is a skill in its self.

Crossbows these days are intended for fun, not for killing people in wars - we have guns for that now.

The point is that shooting a crossbow requires more skill than a modern gun.

But surely its good that people have a choice of what to learn to shoot - and not have to shoot just what ever it is that you like to shoot.

@agentgfh thats crap, its just that with a crossbow proficient has a different meaning, like rifle shooting its about the groupsize, and it takes a lot of practice to keep reducing the size groups you are shooting, ill admit that crossbows will shoot tighter groups at average ranges but that doesnt mean anything because even if the groups are smaller than that of a vertical bow its about shooting smaller groups than the otherguy with a crossbow,

Unless you have an insatiable hunger for whale meat, you'll never go hungry while it's functional. You can spend 4-6 times the cash but you wont get 4-6 times the crossbow.

I prefer iron sites and was glad they were included in the package. Maybe when I get older and my vision starts to fade I'll mount the rdscope.

I shouldn't have judged the Jaguars Power stroke by watching the video, it looked so short, but after looking up it's specs, I guess I was wrong. 14' and 175lbs is certainly enough to take down deer.

But, I just know that for me, I'd rather buy a crossbow that I know is build to meet quality standards rather than a budget. Had a Barnett Quad 400 blow up on me once and I'd concider that a "Higher Quality" bow than the Jag.

All I'm saying is, be careful buying cheap crossbows with high draw weight

i`ve got one of these thier not that good he says on here 175lbs 310 fps but thier 242 fps150lbs are about 220fps thats why the price halfed i bought mine as a spair.if you look around you can pick one up for under 100. If your going to buy one spend a little more get a top end barnet or excaliber for between 400 and 600 quid you`ll love it..however crossbow hunting is illeagle in the uk unfortunatly bastards

At 310 FPS. the draw weight would have to be 175 lb.

150 lb draw produces more like 220/250 FPS.

220 lb ( depending on if your crossbow is recurve or compound ) is something like 350 FPS. less if your cross bow is compound over any distance.

Always go recurve, most quiet and most powerful.

Nice! Unfortunately i am in UK and can only get upto 175lb max ( unless i get a compound at 185 lb, but thats just silly ). I have 150 lb just now, and about to get 175 lb prod. Will be fun to see the difference on several layers of laminate flooring.

I have iron sights right now, but I did put a 22 rifle scope on it for a while.

I was getting some very tight groups @ 40 yards, and even hitting the other bolts shafts which of course isn't a good thing for either bolt.

Mine was a 4X scope, and with the mechanical draw on my bow, I hit the other bolts often.

I ruined a lot of bolts that way.

Aluminum bolts would bend and glass bolts would just explode.

I bought one of these back in December from the SG for the price of $135.00. Not very acurate over 14 yards. The bolts that come with it are junk, plastic inserts had to be replaced. After 50 shots string needs to be replaced. The jaguar collects dust now with no plans on shooting it ever again. Not worth $135.00..

What is the maximum shooting distance? What is the maximum distance for lethal penetration? Is this crossbow for target shooting, or hunting, or both? And, what animals are this weapon designed to kill?

It can be used for target and hunting. Not sure about the max distance and lethality distance but 350 fps is pretty strong and judgeing by other crossbows I've seen I would say max distance for a lethal shot would be any where from 30-40 meters, Just and estimate. And since the bolts are smaller than arrows I would say a good lung shot would be your best option.

. You can use it for most big game animals such as deer, moose, elk and bear. I had a bow last year that i bought from the same guy that sold me the Jaguar and it was only 150Ib but i still nailed my deer with it. A good distance is usually 20 yards to sight in for and you're guaranteed a kill at that distance if you go for the lungs. Even 30 yards will get you a kill but that should be the max distance you should shoot from.
