John Waters wrote that they were hoping for more exaggerated reactions from the people on the street, but most just looked quickly and then looked away. He decided later that they were not wanting to react too much to someone who was obviously insane.

Nowadays I think many city residents would be more accustomed to a sight like Divine - although, of course, there can never be another to replace her!
