Mr. Hastings, I have the pleasure of knowing one of your daughters. This is an inspiration, thank you so much for stating your beliefs and feelings on the presidential election!
Respectfully sir, Obama plans to reduce our defense spending. How could anyone feel safe about that?
I saw many good soldiers pink-slipped with the SSI/VSB initiative (down-sized military) under former President Clinton. I believe Obama would do a great deal more in leaving us completely defenseless than Clinton did.
Ciscoguru69, George Bush has decimated the armed forces. There are far fewer combat-ready units today after 5 years of war, equipment shortages and stopgap orders than there ever were under Clinton. Ending the war will reduce defense spending automatically--by $10 BILLION/mo. Obama will also provide adequate assistance to our returning vets, something that the Bush administration has steadfastly refused to do. Don't feel safe? Two wars and an in-your-face executive should have you terrified.
Who was the architect of the downsizing? Bush I. The downsizing initiatives were ongoing by the time Clinton was elected. You know who else was a big fan of downsizing? Rumsfeld, right up to 2004.
As to Obama reducing defense spending - on what? Troops? Prove it. Bases? Prove it. Star Wars? Yep. Other Happy Talk for DOD contractors? Yep. I think you can feel safe about someone intelligently leading. McCain has never led. Didn't in service, hasn't in the Senate, hasn't in the campaign.
Obama is against spending 10 billion a month for the ill started war in Iraq. The military needs to be rebuilt; however, it won't take 10 billion a month to do so. I have not heard Obama say he will down size the military. The military is way over stretched as it is. look at the rows of ribbons our Marines and Soldiers have on their chest. They have seen as much combat in Iraq as I had in Korea/ Vietnam.
Remember, McCain did not support the GI Bill stating it was too generous.
The Iraq war was ill started. It was started by an insane Dictator named Saddam. Many soldiers died to defeat him in Desert Storm but were mocked by Saddam defying his own ceasefire agreements. The Democrats don't seem to think agreements mean anything. Well N. Korea and Iran are teaching us different. Thanks anti-war people for starting a larger future war!
Once in a Lifetime....Thank God it was in my lifetime...I've been waiting since the 1960 for a man like Barack Obama to unite this country....Veterans for Obama are heaven sent
