the only saving grace of this programme is that ive seen clips of the US Red Dwarf! And that makes this look like a masterpiece......and don't get me started on the US Fawlty Towers!
you americans already had a sitcom with a group of 30 something people including three guys and three gals...................it was called FRIENDS. At least let us have Coupling!!!!.......oh wait....we do.....it failed! lol
UGH!!! OMG!! I Nearly threw up on my laptop! What possessed them to make such a god awful song!!! US VERSION?!!! Do you people know what made Coupling a great comedy? IT WAS BRITISH thats why! Their accents added to the humor somehow. I don't even want to watch the US version!! God someone please shoot the bastard that made it in US!! Some things should be left alone!
NBC was convinced Rena Sofer would become a major break out star for the network from this show. Now she's basically a no-name. Makes you wonder how many more possible careers were ruined because of this train wreck American remake.
My friend shot herself within 10 seconds into the vid and I slit my throat 12 seconds later. I wrote this before I died. What the h*ll were they thinking??? The U.K. version was so much better this almost seems like a bad joke!
The thing I don't like about this version of the opening theme is that it's just way too flashy and in your face. That's fine for American audiences. Honestly, speaking as an American, we need to have our faces slapped with the blindingly obvious, such as who plays in what.
The British Coupling opened more softly and didn't promise more than what it was ready to give. And it gave us way more than promised.
People here are saying that the U.S. version of coupling sucks and the British version is way better. But the Truth is, the British coupling is just a rip off of a great U.S. tv show FRIENDS.
@theshore465 I assume you haven't seen much of either show if this is your conclusion, nor done any reading into the backgrounds of either. Friends and Coupling are not the same merely because they both have the format of three men and three women who hang out. Each series each provides a different type of humour, Coupling relying more upon farce than Friends.
there was U.S. version of coupling?!?!?!?!?! when was this on TV? there is no way it's as good as the UK. version. the UK. version is fuckin badass!!!!
The sad thing is I've seen some of these actors act well in other TV shows. They can act, but the snippets I've seen of this US version aren't very flattering to them.
STOP COPYING US PLEASE AMERICAN TELEVISION !!!!!!!!!!!!
Us Brit's would NEVER copy Shows like Angel , Buffy the Vampire Slayer , CSI , NCIS , Star Trek , Stargate SG-1 or any such brilliant Series you've brought to us over the Years cos British versions of say , Buffy the Vampire Slayer or NCIS , wouldint work , and it's the " Americaness " of your Shows that make it work , just as our " Britishness " is what makes Doctor Who work . Watch the Doctor Who TV movie of 1996 and you'll get it .
iv juz seen the BBC version for 1st time and its hilarious/clever. the US version which is exactly like original, and i dont even recall is awful and so unbelivable!
The accents are what I think lend that certain charm you're talking about. Take the episode "Dressed". That was where Patrick needed a pretend wife cuz he was in competition with a co-worker. When that guy came in the bar and Patrick was like "exellent" and the other dude was like "massive". I just don't see that scene being the same with American accents...
Well it wasn't quite that good in the dubbed german version but all shows loose a bit when they get dubbed. I think it was the acting: Patrick (and his rival/friend) were so 100% convincing in their egocentric would-be alpha male "I'm eternally and faithfully in love with myself" James Bond style that they manage to play that stuff straight up. Similar for Sally's obsession with the size of her behind. It's (part of) what makes the jokes work so well.
I loved the original Coupling, but of course it didn't work because American remakes are always dumbed down for the dumb American audience, I'm American but I'll be first to admit that my country is full of ignoramuses who don't understand satire and irony, not everybody, but a large percentage of the population is like that.
The credits were cool...it went downhill from there. I remember how this show was endlessly promoted in summer-2003. That's the first sign of a show about to fail...
I love the British version, and the US version can't even touch it at all. But this version of the song is actually kinda interesting, probably the only decent part about the American version.
Everything about the American Coupling sucks. And I hate hearing how funny 'The Office' is over here when most people haven't even fucking heard that 'The Office' originated in Britain
I remember in the first couple years of NBC's "The Office" there was a lot of criticism of how it compared to the original, but after a while the criticism seemed to tone itself down. Probably because there's so little that's better to watch over here now, especially in terms of sitcoms.
British shows should stay British shows. That's that.
For some reason the people at NBC thought it'd be great to do Coupling in the US, by using the same script verbatim from the UK version. All they did was spice up the music, have new pretty actors doing the talking, and they thought they'd be rolling in the dough.
The British version is much better than the U.S. .... first Jane is much in the original UK version, Jeff is much, much better ..... all the original, even in a few occasions, the U.S. version has virtually the same text and compared with the British .... phew!!
you're right. countries should never copy the work of another country. it always goes terribly. just look at how awful the american version of that show, "the office," is.
yeah it sucked. I don't know what is, maybe the english accent makes the jokes funnier, or the actors were speaking too fast to get 30 minutes into 20... it was just weird watching. Though to be fair, some of the dialogue, only the british could say and still come off sounding classy (to us Americans anyway).
I don't think it was just the accent. For one thing, the UK actors are so quirky and special - sorry, but most US sitcom actors seem very interchangable. And to an outsider it looks as if US shows like to toy around with sex and relationships and being modern and breaking taboos, but in the end PG13 rating and conventional morals reign. Though it's changing in some shows by now. (Love to Joss Whedon who's awesome!)
