Diala Lama supported slavery; I bet most people don't know that slaves used to exist in Tibet when it has sovereignty. How did this scumbag win the nobel price of peace anyways?
chrno6: wow. well then i guess we should just let the chinese continue their atrocities and destruction of tibetan culture then. that would make tons of sense. and i guess he got the nobel peace prize for..i dont know... being all peaceful and shit.
chinese destroyed tibetan slave culture, theocracy and feudalism, and kept the beautiful tibetan music, dance, costume, language etc. Is that an "atrocity" to you?
...and along with that they destroyed temples, ancient texts, monuments, and hundreds of thousands of innocent people. so yes, clearly a massive and undeniable atrocity has been committed in tibet.
if you are trying to convince me that the chinese government has done its best to take care of tibetan people and culture, you are wrong. it's that simple and the history books ( other than the propaganda that is circulated inside china ) show that quite clearly.
the chinese government would like to simply crush the heart of tibetan culture and leave some sort of disneyland version intact. the tibetan people and their many supporters around the world believe that, as with all unique and ancient cultures, there is much worth preserving that is a bit more profound than "music, dance, and costume".
look, ive done all i can here. if you are that ignorant of other cultures and spiritual traditions then no amount of youtube ping pong is going to change that. turn off your computer. go outside. travel. live beyond the edges of what you know. go to dharmsala, talk to people there. it would be good for you on so many levels. i say this from the heart and wish you luck in your search.
"The greatest obstacle to discovery is not ignorance -- it is the illusion of knowledge".
All the vandalization you accused happened during the culture revolution, when not only the tibetan culture, but also the chinese Han-culture were severely destroyed, today most of the temples in tibet have already been renovated. You westerners go to tibet and see some tradition are changing there, and then you think the "chinese" are "destroying" the tibetan culture, but in fact it is the western civilization influence the tibetans, just like what happend elsewhere in China and Asia.
bah ! stop trying to defend and diminish what has happened over the last decades in tibet. it is nothing short of an atrocious violation of human rights - we are talking about murder and torture and cultural genocide. it is not a trivial matter or something that can be justified by any historical or cultural context.
the only people who dont seem to get what has happened in tibet are people who get their information from the chinese media. what a surprise.
I lived in europe since eight years ago and I informed myself well from both the chinese media and western media. It is people like you who get your information only from western media and the tibetan exil government. It is only the prejustice on a communists government that made you just trust every story they sold and denying any opinion from the chinese side.Culture genocide? Give me a real example.
if you had really informed yourself you would have lots of examples of cultural genocide. maybe you didnt quite get around to reading both sides of the story after all.
anyway its not my job to inform you or argue fine points here. what it comes down to is who is lying - a government who has lied about things like Tianamen Square and the SARS epidemic and routinely crushes dissent or the leader of one of the most peaceful religions in the world. i know who i trust out of those two.
ha, you just can't really name one example. But I can give you one on how the western media manipulate the truth and sunk into self-contradiction: in one article they accuse the "one-child policy" in Tibet and made a horrible story of forced abortion, in another article they show a picture of tibetan family with a bunch of kids, and forgot to mention that one-child policy didn't apply to the minority ethnic group at all. Then again, told me one government in the world that is perfect.
bah. look at the big picture and tell me honestly that what china has done in tibet has been fair, just, and compassionate. tell me that there arent different ways they could have handled this dispute. no government is perfect but when they are brutal and oppressive. torturing. murdering. then we point that out and tell them that treating any of the world's people without respect for their basic human rights will not be tolerated. get with it man.
