  • That was the last good version of that song.

In fact, Grace under pressure has a good one too.

Since Alex use those F.... gibson les paul from the last 2 or 3 tour to

play that song, it's just not have the " good " sound. It's more like noisy than

    music !

  • I dig how the guitar solo is almost all chords.

  • I thought part of the drum set belonged to Danny Carey. Proof: Danny uses a few hexagon shaped drum triggers/electronic pads.

  • That synth bass sound!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ blutobelushi I thought they HAD been inducted! That's CRIMINAL, as is the fact that they won't induct Thin Lizzy! Whoever the people are that decide who gets in needs hearing aids N a lesson in REAL music...

  • @ blutobelushi Actually, it's speculation about the pilots that drop the bomb in WWIII. When I saw them in concert,Geddy Lee said he's heard people had made that mistake, so he explained it N assured everybody that they'd NEVER sing about/exploit something so horrendous N tragic! Hope that makes you feel better about it...

  • sorry to say this grace under pressure tour verison is better

  • @itsfuntodrink Ummm no, I don't think so.

  • if the so called rock and roll hall of fame doesnt add these guys .....woe woe woe to them.....

  • this about the Holocaust. dear God why.

  • love this song.

  • After watching this... I like Geddy on bass and wailing more... everything got bad after Moving Pictures, but they're still great musicians

  • Badest Ever sit down freaks!! you know who you are!!!

  • EPIC SOLO ALEX!!!!!!!

  • What I would'nt give to see this concert in a higher resolution. Same goes for Grace Under Pressure.

  • You guys have got to stop taking these bands entirely seriously.I take them as ARTISTS and view their music as an artistic contribution. In my 40+ years, I have seen and heard so much crap and propaganda about some of these as to not be believed.Being a Pro Event Caterer I am around bands alot. The people you sit down and eat with ARE NOT the same guys as the "official" image as offered in order to sell records. Its a messed up business. Its best to just stick to the tunes and enjoy that.

  • @kevingthompson13 You have to get out from your mom's basement, step outside, go play with your friends, do something, too much weed and porn make you "isolationist". By the way, how old are you, 13?

  • @hankazaria I turned 13 back around 1979! I was around when RUSH was REALLY CONSIDERED WIERD.Then Polygram got hold of them and got them to change their writing. That gave us:Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures,Signals, Grace Under Pressure,Power Windows,Hold Your Fire,Presto, Roll the Bones, and Counterparts ALL QUALITY ALBUMS.Only Foreigner could be said to have this many acclaimed albums in a row.Polygrams influence steered this band into a great direction.SHOW of HANDS tour was also result.

  • Ok guys for a minute the comments sort of got dominated and I apologise.I am also letting you know about my TOTALLY MUSIC/ARTIST CHANNEL. As good as Rush is, there are some bands now that equal or better them that you would like.I have a serious symphonic metal playlist that will blow you away, as well as the 140+ actual bands that are official friends there.I did this effort to educate people about music and to expose as many great bands as possible. Its really cool and you'll love it.

  • You know, most people even non RUSH fans would admit to the contribution these guys have made. Most would also attest to the fact that as individual people THEY ARE WEIRDOS.They dont make public appearances. They dont like to do autographs.NOBODY goes into the dressing rooms. They are isolationists who actually believe the whole world is against them.THEY ARE A GREAT BAND.They are strange & abnormal people. In entertainment that happens alot.I personally know band people, so I speak from experience.

  • @kevingthompson13 Oh no, they don't like fame, they like making music, they must be freaks. You are crazy, you cite Limelight as one of their best songs and then complain about them not acting like the rest of the famous rock stars. Have you even LISTENED to their lyrics? "I have no heart to lie,

    I can't pretend a stranger

    Is a long-awaited friend."

That is about not wanting fame, that is something to admire, not hate.

  • Comment removed

  • @kevingthompson13 They reached a moderate level of success, no number 1s, but still a level of fame, they have a huge following, why should they be expected to be happy dealing with fans? They are aging, they aren't deluding themselves, dealing with masses of strangers can be very tiring, very very tiring. That I do know from experience. Also, I am friends with a guy who interviewed Alex and Geddy, he only had nice things to say about them. They are normal people, normal people are weirdos.

  • Comment removed

  • @kevingthompson13 You are making it out that they are bad though, that may not be the case. Firstly, Neil Peart is an Objectivist, and look up what that means. Secondly, no, I've never watched a Charlie Sheen movie, and never payed any attention to Lindsey Lohan. Thirdly, why should any one care about what Rush is like in real life? Let them be who they are also if you agree with me, then why make your first damn comment in the first place?

  • Comment removed

  • @kevingthompson13 I don't care about their personal lives, I love them, but I really don't care. I care about your stupid remarks. They are false, and you just keep acting ridiculous.

  • @riff5fki I know musicians.Tuomas Halopanien is way more introspective than Geddy Lee. So its Tom Englund. Both of those guys are friends of mine.I also know how strange they are.THAT IS MY POINT FROM COMMENT #1. It has not changed. The #2 point that they are good as a band has not changed either. You have gone all over the place as their personal "defenders" and yet I NEVER DISRESPECTED THEM.Geddy is the first to admit hoe eccentric they/band are.Its a best & worst scenario. I can see both sides.

  • @kevingthompson13 You've called them, weirdos, isolationists, and occultists. You chose words with highly negative connotations, you said they were bad because of their beliefs, which is bullshit. You have accused me of anti-Semitism, which is the reason I am so angry, I take that as a great insult, my favorite person in the world is Jewish (no it is not any of Rush), and I am greatly offended by that. You have insulted my taste in music, and my way of living as well. I'm sorry that makes me mad

  • Comment removed

  • @kevingthompson13 Yes, I never doubted that, I merely doubted your claim that is was "killing their career", as I only ever see support for them at their shows. Also, though he wasn't an official jew, I don't doubt him when he or his mother state that his parents were Holocaust survivors. Someone by now would have looked into that. Also, there is nothing bad about wicca, I personally like the belief system, it makes more sense than standard religion.

  • @riff5fki YOU KNOW, I have seen a leg grow out on a disigured kid.I saw a cancer dry up and fall off my great grandmothers leg. There are many more things. All of these were result of praying in the name of Jesus (also a Jew). If you see these things first hand and it will affect you.Religion does not teach the Bible. It does not teach the real Jesus.I have actually prayer for 3 certified dead people that are now alive. To me wicca is a joke.Geddy Lee is smart enough to do better.Abraham was too.

  • @kevingthompson13 Also, I am a serious person, quit telling me how to live my life. I am the kind of kid who is mistaken for a college student in real life or for an adult online, I'm just mature and have a serious disposition. Deal with it.

  • @riff5fki No one would mistake you for a MATURE person here with all the vulgar and belligerant language.Makes you seem a lot more like a street thug.

  • @kevingthompson13 I am not cursing you out. I am angered and frustrated by your illogical thinking, and it shows through. I am acting within reason, I am not calling you a mentally challenged parrot, I am yelling at you out of frustration, but you are doing it much more than I. You must not know any 14 year olds. I am acting more mature than most of them combined.

  • @kevingthompson13 uh wrong they make public appearances. Geddy and Alex make a shit ton while they're on tour and they just had a documenatary and also Alex and Geddy do meet and greets before every concert. They seem to be very normal people.

  • Comment removed

  • @kevingthompson13 Dude, I think you are the one on acid.

  • @kevingthompson13 what opening band *trollface*

  • Comment removed

  • @kevingthompson13 What on earth does that bullshit NWO stuff have to do with Geddy Lee? He was raised jewish, it is as simple as that, this song is about prison camps like in WWII, his parents were Holocaust survivors, your bullshit has nothing to do with this song.

  • Comment removed

  • @kevingthompson13 MY anti Semitic remarks? What the fuck? I didn't write anything that was against Judaism, I merely stated that Geddy Lee was raised Jewish by his parents, two Holocaust survivors.

  • @riff5fki You are openly associating being Jewish with witchcraft.TRY TELLING THAT TO A RABBI. Thats the same kind of crap that hitler did.Thats why he wanted the jews to all die. SO, your BS is beyond being a comment, ITS SCARY! Its also highly inflammatory, rascist, and biggoted. JEWS ARE NOT WITCHES! Try making that assemilation again and I'll report you yo youtube. I WILL NOT STAND FOR ANTI SEMITISM ON ANY LEVEL.You think you are some brainchild. In reality you are a spoiled brat.

  • @kevingthompson13 No, I am not associating the two. I am saying he was raised in a jewish family. You are not born as a follower of a religion, you are usually raised with one by your parents and either change religions or stay the same. You are an amazing idiot if you think that was an association made between the two. Look, my parents are atheists, but they were both raised Christians, you can change religions later in life.

  • Comment removed

  • @kevingthompson13 Ummm, have you even read any of the official bios of Lee and his family? ALL of them list that his parents were Holocaust survivors, wikipedia, last.fm, Rush's site, fan sites, etc. Just about EVERYONE agrees about his bio. Except you, you seem to try and come up with any way possible to try and say it is false. Also, Alex Lifeson's parents were Serbian immigrants and his father was in prison camps there as well, according to him.

  • Comment removed

  • @kevingthompson13 Look, even if they are wiccan, which would be AWESOME in my opinion, Geddy Lee was raised jewish by his parents, who were Holocaust survivors. Sooo, navillushore179 is correct. And Neil Peart is an atheist, which is blatantly obvious. (If for some reason you didn't know, Freewill and Faithless will prove it)

  • @riff5fki There is nothing awesome about wicca. It killed Stevie Nicks career, and now is killing the RUSH band. These guys ARE NOT ATHEISTS. Early in thier careers they dabbled into that crap and it hurt them. In the 80s they got away from it and went symphonic/progressive/conscientious which was actually their calling. Power Windows,Hold Your Fire, & Presto were awesome.TODAY, Geddy has gone all "nature worship", and introspective.Alex went to.Neil was no way to any of that. I hate it.

  • @kevingthompson13 Look, I don't care what it did to the goat woman (Stevie Nicks, I hate her). I did not say they were all atheists, I said Neil is one. Their early stuff is their best, and their modern stuff second best. Whats wrong with nature worship and introspection?

  • @riff5fki OK YOU GO PRAY TO A TREE DUMBASS.Nothing enlightened about that. Its what PAGANS do.Its what the DRUIDS DID.You really think either of those were advanced?Better go look at history BEYOND your JUNIOR HIGH TEXTBOOKS.In the 70s Rush was a cult and somewhat OCCULT band.Fanbase was very small. They lost thier ATLANTIC record label.Polygram took them on the grounds that they write about actual CONTENT.The difference was dramatic.Limelight is incredible,as was all thier 80s stuff.

  • @kevingthompson13 Yeah, and what CHristianity is so high and mighty? What did it ever do to us? It gave us the Crusades, the Inquisition, and the KKK. NO RELIGION IS BETTER THAN ANY OTHER, WHY DO YOU GIVE A FUCK ABOUT WHAT THEY BELIEVE IN? Also, their 70s stuff was ten times better than their 80s stuff, 2112 is a sci-fi master piece, I see no occult in them at all.

  • @riff5fki OH YEAH SMART ASS, what about the pentagram on the album cover. Atlantic Records FIRED THEM because of their occult involvement. AND what ever Jesus was doing is OVER EVERYTHING. You are in a vast minority choosing their 70s stuff. If they had not changed style and content THERE WOULD BE NO RUSH BAND VIDEOS TODAY.This one here is an 80s one.

  • @kevingthompson13 Yeah, a pentagram, because like that totally means the worship the devil. No, no it doesn't, I have a bunch of pentagram designs on my notebooks, shirts, drawings, etc, but I am no devil worshipper, a lot of people have pentagram related stuff, they aren't all wiccans. No they got fired from Atlantic because their music wasn't popular enough, it was too progressive. Also, you've never seen last.fm then, most Rush fans there rate their 70s stuff 1st.

  • @kevingthompson13 Also, Rush band video from before the 80s, shot professionally by a camera crew with a soundboard audio. /watch?v=78D00dYOBrM

  • Comment removed

  • @kevingthompson13 They were still amazing in the 70s, I identify most with 2112, that was the song that got me into Rush, I hated their 80s stuff for the longest time. But still, we are both supporters, I am just trying to share some insight as well, providing my point of view, although you really really did offend me with the anti-semitic remark. I did not know they had had 5 members, I do know about John Rutsey and the first bassist and vocalist who both left though.

  • @riff5fki SEE, I do know some things.ORIGINALLY those other 2 started out with Lee.Alex and Neil hung near the warehouse that they practised in.This was WAY EARLY before they were known.Alex was actually a "guest" guitarist one one album.Several songs on 2112 and Fly By Night was all 5.Then around 77/78 Tom Shultz & Brad Delp (MIT grads aka BOSTON) had pioneered totally new ways of synthesizing and producing musc. This led to the fab 3 and some pricey equipment.Thats the band we know now.

  • @carlleavey You can! I just picked up the entire show on DVD at Best Buy about a month ago.

  • Awesome, can you believe you cant get this on DVD!

  • Brilliant

  • @thebestforlast100 and gettys dad

  • y is getty not onhis bass

  • alex's tone was so much more crisp and clear during this era. thumbs up this!

  • @emetts2112 Good call. I love the sound of his guitar on Hold Your Fire, Grace Under Pressure etc. Mind you, I love the fuller, powerchord thing he's doing now, too.

  • @AK2927 yes indeed his sound present day is different but still badass. im just kind of a cheese ball for those pretty, open, chours filled chordal structures alex was doing on power windows and hold your fire. and of chorse the beautiful synth work on geddys part... also all of presto is amazing. my favorite album!

  • @AK2927 My one mild issue with 80s Rush is the slightly thin guitar sound esp on Hold Your Fire....but overall from Moving Pictures to HYF, they're pretty much flawless.

  • I'm fifteen an this music isn't only inspirational but also deep, as most of there songs are, defiantly one of my top five fav bands

  • @MrTwitchy13 same story on my part i say congarts

  • I shiver when Geddy sings "Skeletons, they shuffle away" Well.. In the album version

  • I shiver when Geddy sings "Skeletons, they shuffle away"

  • i wish i was alive during this time. The G Under P album and Power Windows are some of my favorite 80's albums of all time.

  • Since geddy is Jewish and his parents were in an interment camp, did he write the lyrics for this song ?

  • @Annonymus121 -The lyrics were Neil Pearts.

  • Written about Geddy Lee's accounts of his parents, if i recall correctly.

  • I've been to so many of their shows yet I never heard this song live.

  • shame they don't have a better drummer. hah! neil is king.

  • As navillushore179 once said: "suck it Hitler..."

  • its wierd to see him w/o a bass, and is this the only song he doesnt use a bass

  • Those voting thumbs down to this song/vid are just a damn Obama voters

  • The 2 people that hit thumbs down are either deaf or Nazis!!!!

  • @954588 I was thinking stupid.

  • @954588 the one time "nazi" can be used as an insult legitimately on youtube lmao

  • I've been thinking about this for a while... if it wasn't for world war II, we maybe wouldn't have rush around today, at least not the way we know them. It's a big irony, to think that this is one of the good things that the war indirectly gave us.

  • @linuxjl beautiful flowers will always grow out of a wet cowpattie. redneck philosophy.

  • I was there

    a truly memerable concert

top band and top quality music

    brings you allive

  • His voice is made of pure crystal

  • My favorite Rush song! Wooooooooo!

  • Jesus Create the Rush Band to Bless the World! Hehehe! :)

  • This is going to be my song for when the dollar collapses and all hell breaks loose. Marshall law, Fema camps, Police state and eventually cyborgs looking for me while wearing my new RFID chip.

  • @SpiralsHappen Hell yeah dude. I just got my RFID chip installed the other day. It kinda itches, but all in all, it ain't so bad.

  • When this was written the U.S. and Russia were going to blow each other up. I was part of Team Spirit '83. You don't want to know how close it came to that.

  • hitlers doesnt deserve to be mentioned in a rush let alone talked about...

  • Great, Nuf said.

  • hitler plays the keyboards

  • Hitler sucks donkey balls

  • This is superb !

  • Geddy at his dramatic best, he can feel it and you can hear it!

  • Comment removed

  • There may be guitarists out there who can shred a million notes in 5 seconds, but none can make a guitar sing like Alex. The chords he is able to pull off are simply amazing. His solo in this song is one of my favorites.

  • @Phantom16000 alex can shred too check out his solo on la villa strangiato but yes i agree

  • @FenderUsa and freewill! (and plenty of others.) but he plays with attitude and none are like him.

  • I'm not usually a fan of electronic drums and synth bass, but of course the mighty Rush can make them sound great!

  • Rush is so classy. I mean that.

  • I know it's a holocaust song but with the keyboards and futuristic sound I like to think of some kind of future war but that's just what it does to me

  • @keaton121 that whole album has a 'post apocalyptic' sound / feel to it. I agree, I always envisioned some post nuclear holocaust scene. Didn't know 'til around 2000 or so that it was based on Lee's mother's experiences in the Nazi concentration camp. I heard Geddy talking about it in an interview / cd launch for 'My Favorite Headache'. Very moving.

  • @earthshine2k

I had the exact same impression of this song. To me, it is still about Geddy's mom's experience, but set in a post-apocalyptic scenario.

  • Geddys vocals really shine in this performance!

  • This is an important song, with an unassuming nostalgic vibe...not only with the lush keyboards of the 80's, but it sits in an emotional place that a lot of songwriters and bands were in during that time. Definitely a staple Rush tune.

  • Those lyrics are moving... makes me ashamed to be a German still - our granddads spreaded so much harm and grief over the world - this is an unmatched song from an unmatched band... Rush!

  • @harbit00001 don't be ashamed... u didn't do it.. and anyways the germans gave us blind guardian :)

  • @voodoochild1029 And Scorpions/Accept/Kreator/Sodom/Warlock, etc.

  • badd ass song!

  • Geddy Lee's parents were Jewish refugees from Poland who had been survivors of Nazi concentration camps Dachau and Bergen-Belsen during World War II. He even speaks fluent Yiddish. He has a BIG story to tell, and a very sad one. God bless Geddy, his family, and of course Rush.

  • Neil is rockin the wife beater! Neil's got some guns!

  • anyone know what kinda guitar Alex is using? I think its a Jackson but what series?

  • The guitar brand is actually a Signature, which was a canadian maker--now defunct I believe. Similar neck to a Jackson though.

  • @Rushworshiper92 @BarrettFamilyHomeVid - It is a Signature - but the neck thru body versions were actually made by Jean Larivee. Here in Dallas on that tour he played a black sig and a white sig and also a couple Lado. He was helping some Canadian guitar makers at that time. Guitar and Neck had that charvel/jackson soloist look. I almost bought one.

  • @txromanflu1 Alex actually designed all signature guitars with one of his friend..the neck thru was made by larivee and the bolt on was made by Godin .Both company were from Montreal.I own a white signature auracle..I still love it!

  • @Rushworshiper92 its a Signature Aurora..Canadian made and designed by Alex him self.

  • FEEL THE SPIRT catch the rush *~*

  • And to think the Rock N Roll Hall of Shame does not believe they deserve induction,,,,Shut Down the RNRHOF!!!!!

  • Geddy's jewish, there's got to be a good story behind the writing of this one. Suck it Hitler, Rush says so.

  • @navillushore179 Geddy's mom and dad survived concentration camps, if I read correctly.

  • @navillushore179 There was. Gary's (Geddy is from his mother's pronunciation of his name) mother is a concentration camp survivor.

  • @rcharding Wasn't Geddy's "bubbeleh" the one who survived a Nazi camp?

This song rocks, but I have to listen to it with gritted teeth.

  • @FreedomZealot No, it was his mother. Google it (YouTube won't allow me to post the link on jweekly dot com).

  • @navillushore179 I heard that this is written about Geddy's grandparents - or parents - whom met at a destroying camp of jewish. I think that Geddy told their story to Neil who wrote a story composed to Geddy's grandparents. Absolutely, a masterpiece for a song. Most 80's song ever!

  • @navillushore179 Rush is an awesome band, but Hitler rocks.

  • @voodooskater Yeah, he was a bad person but a military genius. Up until 1942 that is.

  • Comment removed

  • @navillushore179 Both of Geddy's parents were in concentration camps and we're seperated then found each other after the war ended.Moving and true. Neil wrote the lyrics, but Ged definatly identifies for sure

  • @navillushore179 If I recall correctly, the song was written by Neil, recounting his grandparents experience in the camps.

  • @hankazaria no it was neail accounting gettys parents both of them

  • @Tonytall71 are you joking? I would think theyd be in just because they're Rush man!

  • You know when its a good band.. when they play live and they can sound better than the studio recording... Rush are just... just... no word in the english language can actually sum them up!

  • I think "magical" comes pretty close. This entire show sounds better than the studio versions.

  • i can't find any words in french to explain that too.

  • Not heard this for fucking years....

    Amazing!

  • greataerg !

  • the most progresive rock band, at the moment, e beautiful song.

  • the best 3 man band.

    WAR ISRAEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i get goosebumps listening to this song, Rush are the best band to ever grace the univerese. Can't wait for their tour next year - fingers crossed.

  • Such a moving song. Strong but sad.

  • I love playing along to this song from the record!! Great solo and guitar tone.

  • zajebisty koncert , jeden z najlepszych jakie znam...

  • I Woz there!

  • I shure am trying, survive!!!! What A frecken bitchhen song!!!!!!!

    I love it thanks!!!!

  • I remember when i first heard A Show of Hands (on tape, no less), thus starting my (mostly) dislike for studio songs performed live. To my great pleasure, "Red Sector A", was and is so much better live tho!!

  • Man, I think studio songs performed live are so much better. Not only can you improvise and do things to the songs that you can't do when recording, they sound better. More room to adjust, more things you can do to the songs, more things to tweak and add or remove, etc. I just like how much more - independent, maybe is the word I'm looking for - live songs are.

  • Rush is one of those bands that Can pull it off. Awesome stuff.

  • Personally, I think Alex is one of the most entertaining people to watch play. He's just having FUN up there.

  • I like how alex uses the "whole body" guitar technique.. you can see him talking his way through the solos.

  • i agree,,, someone else that is fun to watch is janick gers from iron maiden... throwing his guitar up in the air and spinning it around and stuff... just awesome... both bands are amazing!!!

  • lol geddy is having so much fun dancing at the keyboards.

  • innovation

  • Grace Under Pressure is probably their most underrated album. Most people I know that claim to like Rush like Moving Pictures and that's pretty much it. They're missing out.

  • ive been thinking the same thing lately. it really is a great album from start to finish.

  • fukkin beautiful

  • thats exactly what i was going to write.

  • very powerful lyrics in this song

  • Very true, so true

  • lol i just realised that system of a down... the lead singers mother was in the armenian genocide too.
