tso is all lights and effects, no musical talent, come on all thats not necessary, yea u said don't judge it by a 17 sec video, but thats what u posted and u put "crazy awesome violin" n thats not what it is, this is crazy lights, while a guys playing violin, lol. .
@bphatboyjohn123 I <3 trolls. lulz. (Yeah, because I was really at a concert with the main goal of getting epic videos for YouTube *rolls eyes*... kiiiinda too busy enjoying an epic concert, as they rocked the house. The violin WAS crazy awesome, though this video doesn't do any of it justice, of course.)
@soadfreak313 then y u title it that, lol. ive seen them, n musically their not great, they have cool lights and stuff, but lots of orchestras are way better, they cover it up w lights n effects, kinda like the movie avatar, or rappers. . yea,
@bphatboyjohn123 Musically they are great. My whole family is classically trained on an instrument and we all love TSO, who are also all classically trained. That being said, they're going for a more *fun* audience and not a ...snobby... one.
@soadfreak313 im not snobby i just don't like people getting more credit than deserved because weak minded people are blinded by effects rather than the actually music, take all the effects n lights away and put a spotlight on that guy, see if anyone cheers, lol. youll probably be the only one lol.
@bphatboyjohn123 there are plenty of people who buy Tso records every year. So assuming there records sell the way they do I am pretty sure many people must enjoy their music. The live concert and effects are just a bonus. If you do not like them then that is okay. that is your opinion and I can respect that. But don't come on here typing ignorant opinions like they make them fact. Talent is with the eye of the beholder.
@Metallicaguy91 i never said anyone didn't like or buy their records. lol. i said they aren't close to as musically talented as other symphony orchestra's. well maybe most, yeah lady gaga and lil wayne sells, doesn't mean their good, means they got good managment and can reach people. w effects, lights, and the media. just like tso. .
@bphatboyjohn123 Spooky, because I was thinking just what you posted, right before I read the post. TSO does an awesome light show, but it distracts from the music, which can be overly synthetic, and makes people think that the music is better than it is. I do like some of their stuff, but also dislike a heck of a lot.

Ya know it just dawned on me.... He plays a total of 7 notes. I have never played a violin in my life, and I guarantee I could play what I just heard in a week of practice ...tops. Listen closely and its not " all that ". SMOKE AND MIRRORS !!
sorry rockcritc, but to play like that takes years and years of practise. the quility of those notes, the perfect bowing, the exact tuning takes years
Just to let you know, The violinists name is Mark Wood, and he studied at Juliard in NYC...one of the most prestigious music schools in the world. Not only that, but they have a rock violin orchestra at the school now, inspired by Mark Wood, using all violins that he invented and hand built. He may play a few notes in this tune, but you might want to check out some other stuff of his...like his Pepsi commercial.
You are also a Yani, Kenny-G, and John Tesh fan. You live in your parents basement, and you cry when you mastubate. You love Karaoke night. You think Criss Angel is for real. You wear sandals and tube sox, and hang out at the Volunteer fire dept .When the national anthem plays you put your hand over your heart. You think Clay Aiken was robbed. You have seen the movie "RENT".. twice. etc.
@ROCKcritic101 Oh man, did not even realize there was a lame internet debate going on in my video. Sure, you could play the same notes in the SHORT 17-second clip I just shared! But would you have his technique, confidence, or stage presence? No. TSO is an amazing band, and Mark Wood is an amazing violinist. Do some research before judging a musician's entirety off of a 17-second video on YouTube. No real critic would do such an ignorant thing. (Maybe cause your'e not a real critic! lol)
ROCKcritic101 just seems to be pissed at the world. Generalizing that most high school players suck at their instruments, making assumptions that because a band plays at a high school means their struggling...
Of course it has nothing to do with wanting to bring music to more people.

see... I told you. ....Clueless. Real artists don't play High Schools. Just struggling ones, or whores who will do any gig for money. BTW, what's with the ebay reference... that was just wierd.
All right, I don't want anyone arguing either side here for a minute. Let's just be serious.
ROCKcritic, besides doing research on the internet, what music from TSO have you listened to?
I don't have experience, but I know as a critic you need to have an open mind about music. So I am sure you have heard a lot being in the business, from the great to the just plain crappy, especially if you were a proffessional yourself.
In general, cally, I think that Glam-rock hair bands from the 80's were just as big of an embarrassment to rock music as Disco was in the 70's. Hell even the ex-glam rockers themselves admit they were sick of their own music. Couple that with a disingenuous "European" exotic name (to throw people off the scent of their origins.) Going where the money is, instead of writing what they wanted to say to the rock world. I find them to be sell-outs.
I find that really interesting, because that's exactly why I repect this group. I find they write music that is meaningful, and are not all about money, like other bands. And I personally hate groups that are like that too. Their music usually sucks to begin with.
I'm not going to throw some stupid quote to you about the name, I hate people who do that, but it does have a significance which I find interesting.
But hey, I'm not here to change people's minds. Just to understand. So ... thanks.
Okay, I thought I posted a second comment, but I guess not.
Anyway, what I was saying is, regardless of who wrote the music, what is it about the composition you don't like? I guess, in general, what is it about TSO that you don't like? There must be something about the music that throws you off. And they do have an album that is not Christmas, I'm not sure if you've heard of it.
I really am trying to be serious right now, and I hope you can take me seriously too. I hate senseless arguing.
I am not " IGN-RO-ANT", it would appear you are, ... or you have a " Club Thumb". You are entitled to your own opinion, I'll give you that. Being a critic, EVERYONE is entitled to mine. lol. Seems to me you're talking crap. High School Bands have many parts and complex arrangements... funny thing is, most of them suck at their instruments. Its harder to make great music with 3 people ( RUSH for example) than it is with an orchestra. You can't hear mistakes an Orchestra makes. Gets lost in all the " fluff". AND, I am a musician ( previously professional) B4 I became a critic. Now, go tip a cow.. hayseed. U have spoken and stuck your foot "smack dab" in yo' mouth, bubba.
Okay, I just googled "Paul O'NEILL". I got a baseball player for the Yankees and a politician.... Oh yeah, the only place Paul O'NEILL shows up is on a TSO website. where, after you sift throught the BS and name dropping, you figure out one thing... He WAS the Hairband's Mgr. Which is what I assumed originally. Game, Set , Match.... Jordan fades back.. and THAT's the game !!

PAUL O'NEAL is a brilliant composer?? Google his ass and tell me where you see him even mentioned... lots of Paul O'Neal's, just no composers with that name. I've never heard of him... was he the Hair band's manager or something? lmao!!
*Sigh*... do some research. TSO is a real band that writes their own music. For touring they split the band into 2 groups and hire musicians to fill in where needed. And they aren't all just studio musicians, and if they were, who cares? Many of the best musicians in the world you've never heard of because they just do studio work... and can play anything and everything. I'd rather see them then many big name bands who are less talented.
Last time I checked TSO didn't write "Carol of the Bells". BTW... I've done plenty of research, for the last 20 yrs. I've been a rock critic for a major publication in the U.S. Which begs the question, are any of you TSO fans even musicians? I'm gonna stick my neck out and say .... no. No you're not, so don't bother lying about it.
Wow, do rock critics use the word 'dumbasses' in their "major publication" offerings? And yes, I know they didn't write "Carol of the Bells" and certainly they didn't pen the traditional Christmas songs, but their arrangements of those songs are quite good (with a lot of original attributes) and they have plenty of original songs that they wrote themselves. And yes, I am a musician... not a professional, but at least I am playing music and not just writing about it.
No, rock critics don't ( usually ) use the term dumb asses in a major publication.... usually. Thats why I use YouTube .... to vent, where I do not have to fear being censored or fired.
T.S.O. isn't even a REAL band, They are a bunch of studio musicians that tour around and soak gullible fools like yourselves for at least 50 bucks a ticket.. to see STUDIO MUSICIANS that don't even write their own stuff... dumbasses. Don't believe me? Just check out their tour dates... How the hell can you be in two places at once? Stop being fooled by the bright lights, dummies. p.s. I've taught H.S. kids that could play this particular Violin piece.
Wow, you really need to get a clue when it comes to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Why not do a little research before posting such an ignorant opinion? Studio muscians? Not even close! These people are incredibly talented muscians. Paul O'Neal is a brilliant composer and mastermind. As for 50 bucks a ticket? Sorry, you're wrong on that one too. I had great seats for the concert Thursday night and only paid 18.00. Their performances are so much more than a concert. It's an EXPERIENCE!
OH! Did I mention that they performed for a solid THREE HOURS?!?! I want to see some rock star try and do that without crying about exhaustion and wanting more money. OH! Did I mention that they donate a dollar for every single concert ticket sold to a local charity in the city they are playing? EVERY CONCERT! Can you tell me the name of any other artist that does this? No? I didn't think so. I could go on and on. Would you like me to?
During the past decade, TSO has been a reliable fixture on Billboard's yearly list of the 25 highest-grossing tours. In 2007, the act ranked 15th among Billboard's most profitable tours, grossing $49.3 million and drawing more than 1.1 million people to 128 concerts reported to Billboard Boxscore. This year, the group will rank 12th with $47.3 million in grosses from 120 shows.
TSO's albums have collectively sold 6.7 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The act has charted five albums on the Billboard 200, and it has racked up three top 10 sets on the Top Pop Catalog list, with two of those hitting No. 1 ("Christmas Eve and Other Stories" and "The Lost Christmas Eve").

They also made their debut in Cleveland, Ohio. So no, they aren't a "bad hairband from Florida."
They are a group of highly skilled, dedicated musicians, whos playing ability surpasses nearly all other modern musicians in skill.
They don't stand up there and play for money.
They get up there and perform. Entertain. Captivate.
But someone of your intelligence level clearly wouldn't understand how much of an art performing a show like this is.

The level of ignroant bull coming from the so called "RockCritic" fails on an epic level.
It's not about writing the music. Its about the performance.
What they do, is arrange and perform. They bring life to music. You have no sense of musical art.
