The violin WAS crazy awesome, though this video doesn't do any of it justice, of course.)

@bphatboyjohn123 Musically they are great. My whole family is classically trained on an instrument and we all love TSO, who are also all classically trained. That being said, they're going for a more *fun* audience and not a ...snobby... one.

@bphatboyjohn123 there are plenty of people who buy Tso records every year. So assuming there records sell the way they do I am pretty sure many people must enjoy their music. The live concert and effects are just a bonus. If you do not like them then that is okay. that is your opinion and I can respect that. But don't come on here typing ignorant opinions like they make them fact. Talent is with the eye of the beholder.

TSO does an awesome light show, but it distracts from the music, which can be overly synthetic, and makes people think that the music is better than it is. I do like some of their stuff, but also dislike a heck of a lot.

Just to let you know, The violinists name is Mark Wood, and he studied at Juliard in NYC...one of the most prestigious music schools in the world. Not only that, but they have a rock violin orchestra at the school now, inspired by Mark Wood, using all violins that he invented and hand built. He may play a few notes in this tune, but you might want to check out some other stuff of his...like his Pepsi commercial.

But would you have his technique, confidence, or stage presence? No. TSO is an amazing band, and Mark Wood is an amazing violinist. Because of everything involved in setting up a concert.

Venue, advertising, crew, security, transportation, lighting, sound, etc.

They have a spectacular visual performance that goes along with their music.

These aren't cheap things that can just be bought on Ebay.

In general, cally, I think that Glam-rock hair bands from the 80's were just as big of an embarrassment to rock music as Disco was in the 70's. Hell even the ex-glam rockers themselves admit they were sick of their own music. Couple that with a disingenuous "European" exotic name (to throw people off the scent of their origins.) Going where the money is, instead of writing what they wanted to say to the rock world. I find them to be sell-outs.

I find that really interesting, because that's exactly why I repect this group. I find they write music that is meaningful, and are not all about money, like other bands. And I personally hate groups that are like that too. Their music usually sucks to begin with.

I'm not going to throw some stupid quote to you about the name, I hate people who do that, but it does have a significance which I find interesting.

Anyway, what I was saying is, regardless of who wrote the music, what is it about the composition you don't like? I guess, in general, what is it about TSO that you don't like? There must be something about the music that throws you off. And they do have an album that is not Christmas, I'm not sure if you've heard of it.

They don't stand up there and play for money.

Seems to me you're talking crap. High School Bands have many parts and complex arrangements... funny thing is, most of them suck at their instruments. Its harder to make great music with 3 people ( RUSH for example) than it is with an orchestra. You can't hear mistakes an Orchestra makes. Gets lost in all the " fluff". *Sigh*... do some research. TSO is a real band that writes their own music. For touring they split the band into 2 groups and hire musicians to fill in where needed. And they aren't all just studio musicians, and if they were, who cares? Many of the best musicians in the world you've never heard of because they just do studio work... and can play anything and everything. I'd rather see them then many big name bands who are less talented.

Wow, do rock critics use the word 'dumbasses' in their "major publication" offerings? And yes, I know they didn't write "Carol of the Bells" and certainly they didn't pen the traditional Christmas songs, but their arrangements of those songs are quite good (with a lot of original attributes) and they have plenty of original songs that they wrote themselves. And yes, I am a musician... not a professional, but at least I am playing music and not just writing about it.

These people are incredibly talented muscians. Paul O'Neal is a brilliant composer and mastermind. As for 50 bucks a ticket? Sorry, you're wrong on that one too. I had great seats for the concert Thursday night and only paid 18.00. Their performances are so much more than a concert. It's an EXPERIENCE!
