Bridge battles are so annoying... the first part is just archers exchanging fire for an hour, then no one wants to move cause if they do they'll get pwned.. and we wait, letting our archers just take more shots, then our archers run out of ammo... then nothing happens except waiting and shifting. Then I quit, it's just so time-consuming and pointless.
@Recruitsoldier just go through the water, its not only the bridge u can cross, in BI u can also svim...taking the initiativ and being the attacker is often a good thing as you can do what you want and and thereby knows what will happen, ur opponent dont.

My opponent puts a gold/gold phalanx right at the end of the crossing, and crossing a bridge or water makes your army deorganized, so they're very easy to repel. Meanwhile, they spam arrows with their ten units of archers, and I can't do anything but hide and wait.
@Recruitsoldier depends on who you are playing as and against - as said urself, wait till no more arrows, and then attack with cavalry - if u r fast enough u can just run in the water around them, and wait for them to fully restore to be "fresh", eventaully elephants and CATAPULTS will make short work of a phalanx formation...even if ur elephants dies like flies, they will take up so much space that the phalanx will be disorderly...but i would go for catapults --- why? beats archers :)

Onagers suck, if they use flaming ammo, they miss 95% of the time, and if they use regular ammo, they only kill three guys per hit. If I use archers against his infantry, then his archers will make short work of mine.

@ptccashmoneymaker The thing is, I'm not PoM, or even a good tactician. As you saw, he made it across the water and caught the enemy off-guard - which is taking the initiative, as you said. But what if the enemy had put some Royal Pikes at the end of the river crossing? PoM's units would be ripped to pieces. He would have to wait for the enemy to cross. That's like, the one thing you can do at that bridge battle - wait at the river crossing, or cross it yourself.

Its about skill, u dont have to be PoM in order to win a brigde battle...u can win against the ai, and it really isnt THAT hard to win - as said use other troop types and cross from the river banks instead of using the bridge, that will give u 3 choices and u can try attack from all 3 sides...i would go with superior missile troops, to force the other to attack...and if he/she didnt attack i would win...simple and easy. :) but a bit boring

That's barely strategy to me. Also, like Prince, I never play against the AI, except in campaigns, where bridge battles hardly happen. And the AI always just rushes all their guys over the bridge, then I surround them at the other end, then I chase the chain-routed units with cav. Boring.

You played this how Alexander The Great crossed the river to India.He's main force of 22,000 men where horassing the Indian commander.And Alexander was in the other side crossing. :P
actually you can't, you have to get into the game files. Already did that though :D although I'm giving a try to new factions to experience their troops (get ready for online battles). Seluceds are damn hard I must have like 1 and a half banners of egyptians heading towards my capital, and with invading parthian and armenian armies. Hopefully I'll get out of that
Today when i was playing a 2v2 on this bridge map or something close to this map with a bridge i thought about that there has to be another crossing way instead of the bridge and my teammate was throwing his units away and he wouldn't listen to me or the enemy who was trying to tell him to throw his pilla against the spartans blocking the bridge end.

Yeah in these stupid bridge battle you have to decide in the beginning if youre goin to be offensive or defensive but now he had 9 more archer units than you so i guess you didnt have a choice really. Great manouvers.
I personally like my online games to be historically accurate. That's why I hoped you'd win, Prince of Macedon. The other guy not only had 10 archers, he also mixed pre and post marian units, which in my world = heresy. Also, he didn't have any cavalry, and being something of a cavalry fanatic myself I'd have butchered him for that. Then again, you pretty much butchered him anyway!

10 Archers is almost impossible to beat (working alongside regular troops). But it's also BANNED online. Just because I made it look easy doesn't mean it was easy.

Macedon, i've watched this video about 6 times and you are definitely saying CALVARY. I don't know why you're getting so defensive when people correct you on this. Instead you should be thanking them because now you won't sound dumb when you make another video.

Yeah in these stupid bridge battle you have to decide in the beginning if youre goin to be offensive or defensive but now he had 9 more archer units than you so i guess you didnt have a choice really. Great manouvers.

I personally like my online games to be historically accurate. That's why I hoped you'd win, Prince of Macedon. The other guy not only had 10 archers, he also mixed pre and post marian units, which in my world = heresy. Also, he didn't have any cavalry, and being something of a cavalry fanatic myself I'd have butchered him for that. Then again, you pretty much butchered him anyway!

yeah... the Roman guy's unit choices sucked. I mean, 10 archers?? I've fought dozens of online battles, and I find that 99% of the battle is decided when choosing units and deploying them. (That's why I really annoy opponents by taking 10-15 mins to deploy!)

10 Archers is almost impossible to beat (working alongside regular troops). But it's also BANNED online. Just because I made it look easy doesn't mean it was easy.
