If she's the next "it" girl for the US she needs to start improving soon. So far this year bad showings in her Grand Prix events and a 5th place finish at the nationals. Not even a chance to skate at the Worlds which is experience all our young skaters need. She's looking like a one year wonder just like so many skaters of years past.
The lesser of the two countries' age of consent, which would be 18 for the US (as opposed to 20 for Japan.) Only works if you qualify for citizenship by law regarding your birth and parent nationality, and I don't know that she would. (It's not technically dual citizenship either, although you can get a passport from both countries.) I know about it quite a bit from a friend here who was born in the US to Japanese parents, moved back to Japan around junior high, then came back for college.
Both my friend and her older sister never bothered to file the paperwork when they turned 18, and have been getting passports and visas issued as whichever citizenship is more convenient for where they want to study abroad. I think the older sister is 30 now and still gets away with it, somehow neither country enforces it very strictly.
ok, TALENT - amazing ... "skating" on its own - hmm, not into it (i know im being extremely picky here). i just wish the grace she had in her bows was brought into the program. I hate seeing 3 turns where the skater right after completing a 3 turn, bends down - like a person learning to skate afraid ot fall.
Where's lp?

See the comment above, that doesn't actually work. (Although her situation may be convenient until she turns 18.)

Except that the US and Japan don't have a dual citizenship treaty, making your assertion impossible.

you can have dual citizenship up to a certain age.

Mirai Nagasu is on fire in this performance. I am so impressed with how far she has come by 14. I look forward to her at 18 or 20.
