For those wondering -- this version has some improvising, especially in the repeat, but it's incredibly standard and is the full version included in most books. The Tom and Jerry version skipped some of the lyrics.
WOW, I have not heard this song in at least five years or more (from Tom and Jerry of course); all of a sudden while watching Seinfeld today it popped into my head. The mind is a strange thing lol.
I listened to the original and it did not sound like this one that you posted,. the one that u posted sounds more modern. Im not the only that noticed this, hence others here have commented and asked the same question..
@yougoberry Do not understand the question, but I commented that the original version of Louis Jordan and Tom & Jerry's used in the chapter The Solid Serenade.

@yougoberry Ok I understand, I commented that this version I found while searching the web and if they are right is different from other versions of this great song.
I can respect this music because it came from the heart. And it symbolizes the time period when black americans were going through the most, but still able to produce heart warming soul music............
O U T S T A N D I N G ! Thank you so much for uploading this excellent song by the great Louis Jordan. Very nice job with the series of images too! Very nice tune, as fine as it is nostalgic.
This is defiantly NOT the original version that Louis recorded in the 1940s. This is more jazzy and uses no backing vocal support. What year was this version recorded, anyone?
Excellent song which i like elmesmoum discovered from the tom and jerry episode solid serenade. this version was on youtube but got took down, i extend my thanks as well :)
My daughter, SIL & 2 Granddaughters relocated to India last year, leaving me their 2 dogs to care for. One of them is named "Izzie", several weeks ago I was singing this song as I came into the room and she thought that I was singing to her and came over & started loving on me by licking my hands while wagging her tail! LOL!!! I still laugh thinking about that!
@4Zoot Yea...the older cartoons had the classic tunes playing the background. I used to love the classical/opera music they played in Bugs Bunny too. Amazing, I'm waiting for them to do that do the cartoons of today. :-)

@yougoberry This is from the 1956 Mercury sessions produced by Quincy Jones - note the echo and more prominent guitar.
