Edna Million in a drop dead suit Dutch pink on a downtown train Two dollar pistol but the gun won't shoot I'm in the corner in the pouring rain 16 men on a deadman's chest And I've been drinking from a broken cup 2 pairs of pants and a mohair vest I'm full of bourbon; I can't stand up. Hey little bird, fly away home Your house is on fire; your children are alone Hey little bird, fly away home Your house is on fire; your children are alone Schiffer broke a bottle on Morgan's head
@grylosx And I've been stepping on the devil's tail Across the stripes of full moon's head Through the bars of a Cuban jail Bloody fingers on a purple knife A flamingo drinking from a cocktail glass I'm on the lawn with someone else's wife Come admire the view from up on top of the mast Yellow sheets in Hong Kong bed Stazybo horn and a Singerland ride To the carnival is what she said A hundred dollars makes it dark inside. Repeat First Verse and Chorus
So, when I was 4 years old my dad would always drive me to pre-school, and every morning I would insist that he put this song on, a few years ago, when I rediscovered Tom Waits I heard this song and I was like... Whoa, I was a smart 4 year old.
This song is the one for me, all one could possible need on a normal day is an ol' bottle of golden whiskey and this tune rocking your boots along the way..
@reea333 This type of music is going to have themes and chord progressions that have been used since man started playing instruments. Like the blues chord progressions. BUT EACH SONG IS A DIFFERENT WORLD IN ITS OWN. Just though id mention that.
@Thrashtildeath1 Ok, Captain Obvious, I got it. What bothered me was the fact that, at the risk of repeating myself, according to the credits, the theme song belongs to Jonathan Whitehead Also, I am aware of the similarities between the chords used in this particular genre... but I still think that Tom Waits has a specific sound, a darker one. :)
Despite the facial similarity, the man on the cover of Rain Dogs is not Tom Waits. The photograph is one of a series taken by the Swedish photographer Anders Petersen at Café Lehmitz (a café near the Hamburg red-light boulevard Reeperbahn) in the late 1960s. The man and woman depicted on the cover are called Rose and Lily.

If I ever owned a tropical brothel, it would play nothing but Tom Waits.

May I recommend the book 'A Concise Guide To Eighties Music' by Karl Vorderman. The author is a big fan of this track.

@reea333 This IS the Black Books theme tune. Might explain it.

@snoozypops No, it's not. It's a rearrangement of it, apparently composed by Jonathan Whitehead.
