  • still the best

  • if anyone knows where to get this dvd please post it

  • BRAVO MR NELSON......NO ONE EVER HAS OR EVER WILL SOUND LIKE THIS.....SO CLEAN

  • Tubular!

  • GRACIAS POR SUBIRLO Y GRACIAS A BILL NELSON

  • Bill,

I saw you way back in San Francisco at Winterland for your 'Modern Music' Tour with Rush and Ted N. You were brilliant then................you are even better now!

    I've missed you.

    Thanks for coming back!

  • Always in my mind, some kind of love connection to the music. Bill is the master of masters...

  • this is quality musical ability and skill ,, this type of adept fretwork skill and composition is soo very rare ,im in seventh heaven listening to this

  • SUPERB....JUST SUPERB

  • why oph why oh why is this guy not talked about..one of the best british guitarists we have had writing great music down the years NEVER talked about at all..one of the great british music mysteries...the guy is ignored and forgotten..a icon and a legend...rock on Bill

  • @WELLBRAN Because talent counts for shit these days - you've only got to ewatch X factor to see that.

    Criminal f***ing criminal!!

  • @floouk yes I quite agree...... what happened to our music.

  • Kudos to the producers of this video. I have SO many other musical legends recorded by old cellphones (or even old videocams snuck into shows) held or propped up against a beer bottle! A handful of axemen turned me on to "serious" rock in the 70s: Steve Howe, John McLaughlin, Jan Akkerman - and BN! You guys are dead right: he deserves a LOT more credit than he's gotten!

  • I have loved Bill's music since discovering it in 1975--this is SO Bill. What a beautiful style he has..............

  • Excellent

  • it hads to come in" modern music" at one point

  • wow !! I am just blown AWAY AT THIS SONG !!!!!

  • Incredible! Sounds like a band with only BN playing.....

  • imagine a double act Bill Nelson and KC.......as good as Adrian Belue but almost unknown even to this day, i dread to think how many albums hes put out over the years

been a fan since 79, great to see hes still playing:) m50

    thankyou for the post

ps bloody hell his guitar playing soars

  • Errmm....Sorry guys.. I think it's a Patrick Eggle guitar, not a PRS..

  • @Michaelclare1000 It is a Patrick Eggle Berlin Deluxe, similar to PRS. Own both Eggles and PRS and the Berlin is a smaller body than the PRS Custom that the Berlin resembles. PRS build quality puts Gibson and Fender to shame, particularly the former.

  • Fantastic playing from Mr Nelson. So many tones in one song, yet he has his own sound.? It's in the fingers.... A major British Talent. . I've been a fan of bill's since the 70's, and have seen him play live a few times. If you love the guitar you MUST check out 'Modern Music' by BEBOP DELUXE from 1976 for some Stunning guitar playing. Bill is also an excellent singer.

I love the bagpipes sample at the end of this piece for Stuart Adamson of Big Country. Massive respect to you,Bill.

  • this is very good could be made in heaven

  • @soksy3 ...I see what you did there!

  • Just discovered this artist through an interview in Guitar and Bass magazine from UK.

    I really like it!!!!!

  • The man hasn't missed a beat. He creates entire soundscapes and rides over them like a hydrofoil.

  • SOOOOO under-rated as a guitarist and a songwriter!!!

  • Bill Nelson is another great and greatly-under-rated guitarist.....it's a little sad to see that he has switched out his Gibson ES-345 for a PRS. It seems like all the great guitarists switch from their signature instruments to PRS late in their careers. I blame arthritis.

  • @jgrimsley2000

I personally think PRS are great guitars, as good or maybe better than Gibson and Fender. They are modern guitars, the LP's and Strats are from the beginning of the 50's. Evolution my friend is the name of the game!

  • @jgrimsley2000 Bill still plays his ES345, uses it for quite a few of the Be Bop numbers and in recent times when I have seen him live, always for "Adventures in a Yorkshire Landscape" and "Sister Seagull". Uses a Duesenberg for "Maid in Heaven". The man is simply the best there is.

  • one of the best ever

  • Wow! Bill Nelson in 2011. Long overdue!! Time for a BeBop Deluxe reunion tour!!

  • And so beautifully represented by you:)

  • Thanks for the upload smokehogg - every day is a good day when you can listen to Bill Nelson's wonderful music.

  • sorely underrated guitarist, listen to 3 tracks off Axe Victim, Adventures in a Yorkshire Landscape, Jets at dawn, No trains to Heaven (in a row off album) Brilliant!

  • GRACIAS BILL NELSON.

  • Awesome is not enough surerly

    Bill Nelson Afficianado since 1974

  • Bill Nelson's music is so amazing. Once you discover him you feel withdrawal if you don't listen to him for a while. I love this guy's music.

  • I've followed Bill Nelson since Axe Victim and on the evidence of this clip, he's lost nothing. The man is a genius...

  • Have loved Bill's playing since discovering him in 1974. Thanks for the upload!

  • probably the most uder rated guitar players ever

  • I love this man's guitar-playing, always have. Beautiful sense of melody + he digs in nicely. In an alternate universe, it'sBill Nelson's music playing daily at the Mall of dream department stores, and no one ever worships any American Idols.

  • Well done Smokehogg for posting this gem bud.

  • Top man. Top guitarist. Respect.

  • This is "For Stuart (Triumph and Lament)"

  • Absolute quality. light years ahead of everyone.

  • Whats the name of the track guys pls . I love it.

  • The effortless expression is still there, as always. This man is timeless and, if anything, still light years ahead of his time.

  • Amazing Guitar work! He out did himself with "Gleaming Without Lights"!!!

    Play on, Bill!

  • Amazing Guitar work!

  • @quanalocha Fripp and Bill Nelson appear on "Gone to Earth" the third full-length solo album by David Sylvian, released in 1986. It's a double CD and quite good IMHO.

  • It just hit me. He and Mr. Fripp need to get together. And Mr. Eno. All three. One thing about Bill Nelson, his ability to compose melodies. He and Be-Bop Deluxe were such a breath of fresh air when I first heard them. I was working at Odyssey Record Headquarters and in the staging building, where all the records were set to ship to all the stores, Drastic Plastic and Waiting for Columbus vied warlike for airtime. Oddysey opened a new store every three weeks or so, then died.

  • A masterclass in tone, control and technique....perfection. A big thank you to my friend Dean for putting me on to this.

  • @verty87 also a lesson in you do not have to throw the guitar around to look and sound good

  • Amazing.

  • This is just the best .. Always loved Bill but he's better than ever ..Tears in my eyes as I loved Stuart's playing as well ..

  • Live long and [keep on] spiritually prosper Bill.

    Thank you Old friend.

  • sheer beauty

  • What a treat!!!!! Peer

  • I wonder what his legacy will be ... fantastic artist, Bill Nelson, thank you!

  • thanks for posting, Keith!

  • LOVE iT!!!!

  • Bill might be a fan of the TV show Breaking Bad, as he has Walt's look down to a T. IMHO. Oh Yea, this video brought tear to my eyes. Bill, Thanks for keeping with it! Your playing just gets better every year.

  • Thanks for posting this amazing performance Smokehogg

  • Wow! Nice multi-camera work. thanks!

  • Thanks for putting this up here! I remember reading on Bill's blog that he was dissatisfied with his performance but this sounds amazing!

Always a tasteful guitarist and arranger of music no matter the style he played in.

  • A lot of fans have never seen Bill performing in the modern era , so the dvd of this concert is indescribably delicious . It's impossible to overstate it's importance in some of our collections. I've been waiting since 1995 for something like this !.

  • Still the best!!

  • still one of the greatest

  • just watched john mcglauchlin, paco de lucia & co, magificent fast fingers et al but this guy has got and always has had soul !!!

  • Fantastic, one of the best concerts I've ever been to was Be Bop Deluxe in Birmingham back in the mid 1970's. Brilliant to see Bill again ;o)

  • Thanks so much for uploading this vid!!

  • Fabulous guitar player, since the times of "MODERN MUSIC"...... Great Bill Nelson

  • Fabulous - If I have a funeral, I'm booking Bill to do the music

  • The DVD is on Amazon - it is fantastic - a bargain

  • Magic as always !

  • Bill is Bill !

  • The fire will always burn, since 1981.

Can anyone tell me the name of this track?

    Thanks for posting.

  • @2001pro ...For Stuart

  • @2001pro Hi , it's ...For Stuart.....Stuart Adamson . He died (suicide) I think in Cuba 10 or so years ago . A concert was put together for him in Barrowlands Glasgow and Bill was asked to write and perform a tune...so he did . Stuart was a great fan of Bill and Be Bop Deluxe and asked him to produce his first album with thr Skids . Not sure if all this is bang on . Stay Young , Keith Stephenson . Leeds .

  • Bill isn't so much overlooked by the industry as he has more or less discarded it. I can't blame him one bit. Thanks to all for the great posts!

  • Thanks cakeywontdie, I'll keep a look out for the tour, my brother used to listen to Starburst Finish and the sound comign from his bedroom record player back in the day was amazing, I think I went on to be a bigger fan than him after that. I've played this track over and over in my car for the past week or so and still love it. As metioned here, great to hear the riffs from other BBD songs within this track. Nice to see so many BBD fans still out there. Take care all! See you in the age age!

  • I was at the Metropolis concert. One of the greatest nights off my life. Just wait until Bill releases "Above these clouds the sweetest dreams", the opener on his solo set that night. Absolutely stunning. Will never understand why he is so overlooked by the industry. At least he remains loved by those of us in the know. A genius, a real genius. Thank You Bill for the most wonderful music for the best part of 40 years now.

  • That was bloody awesome! :D Thanks for posting hun xx ~PG~

  • Unique

  • A true legend, thanks for posting this great music. Be Bop Deluxe were a favourite band back in the day and saw them at Hammersmith Odeon in 77. Bill is just the most wonderful player and gets so much emotion into his solos, the guitar seems to tlak to you. Amazing. Cheers smokehogg! Maybe, just maybe BBD could get back together even though Charlie is gone. To see them live again would be brillaint.

  • @greynessman Bill is planning a tour next spring - "Combo Deluxe" which will include some Be Bop Deluxe material

  • ~ Superb Upload ~

I saw The Skids live back in the day - I remember noting how Stuart played like Bill and even used the Sister Seagull riff ( which Bill uses on this track again ) which he then seemed to have developed into that Big Country guitar/bagpipe sound.

Also to hear the Modern Music opening ( 2:30 ) - my 1st and favourite Be Bop album ( & concert ! )... gladened my heart no end.

Time for a new band Bill ~ Platinum Deluxe ~ ..Electronica / Jazz / & re-imaginings of your classics

  • Umm, for Bill's fans interested in getting the DVD - it doesn't have all the weird video effects on it that you see added here.

  • accidental thumbs down!

  • the fire still burns.

    thankyou Bill, please keep playing.

thanks to smokehogg for posting this.
