2009 is going to be a great year to be a Neil Young fan - He will release Fork In The Road, an album of new material, possibly at the end of March - This song is from that and great it is to. Also we will get the long awaited ten disc Archives collection which spans the years 1963 to 1972 sometime this year. As a massive Neil Young fan personally I can't wait.
seems a little better than greendale. kinda like time fades away or something. . . . . btw, when is that album ever gonna be released? what about trans?
Hey Thanks for uploading the new one. Just love it when Neil sings about the world and the crap thats going down at the moment. Love the catchy tune and of course his voice. Gawd how does this guy keep going, The 420+ songs he sings are all great and everyone of them have real meaning for someone out there like me. Neil keep on rocking in the FREE World. I look forward to the new albumn's release.
Like Yogi said..."when you see a fork in the road , take it". Yup. It sure ain't MY dang bailout either, Neil...I just want to live the dream and they keep shaking me up.
I love how to this day Neil Young manages to make music that's more relevant than most of the stuff coming from bands that are still in their infancy. Forever Young!
I do what I do, and I just gave up. I am entitled to an oppinion just as you are. And I understand supporting something you beleive and trust in. Neil was everything to me since 1966..until Harvest Moon..Prairie Wind was good..now, he is scraping the barrel to "do what he does".
I think everyone knows what it's like to give up on someone, I gave up on Neil..I am not happy about it.
I was once one of your greatest fans. Over the years I have kept close to listen to your new releases, slowly loosing interest and
becoming very predictible of your new stuff, continually being disappointed and feeling ripped off after purchasing your work with faithfullness. This has no musical integrity, no tune, no melody. I recently read your biograghy, I'm kind of sorry I did. You are not the Neil I thought I knew...Goodbye Neil
Somehow I don't think Bernard will give a care if he loses your approval. He does what he does and he doesn't give up. Integrity is his middle name. Oh no I forgot - it's Percival.
Mr. Young, the best song that I have heard on the bailout topic is "Federal Reserve" by Painting Tasters on TheSixtyOne. PT also have a tune called "Corporations" on the61 and moving up on your LIving with War site. Check it out. Great new talent.
Neil ... still our kind of knucklehead. Love it. Thanks for the radio line. Still remember you coming by our place wearing the Harvest Moon jacket and dropping off a live copy of "Ten Men Working". We played Jimmy Reed's "Take Out Some Insurance" for you on your way home.
Right on Neil! I love it! Neil is one of my all time favorites - love his music! And for you who had the nasty comments - well I say "you don't know a good artist when you hear one"!
Art hurts, people are intolerant by nature, what ever you do, DO NOT THINK. Love your neighbor like you love yourself. Let Go. You are who you've been waitting for.
You know, Mrhotsax; Ricard Wagner effectively destroyed the career and reputation of Felix Mendelson in part by demonizing his music as too Jewish. History has revealed the bigotry in Wagner's view of what constitutes 'good music'. Perhaps time will do the same with your self-inflating characterization of Neil Young and his recent works. So, you prefer a velvet Elvis? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Let it go...or troll on, Garth.
BAM!!! - Only those who get it can feel this song! Pure genius Neil! For those who still don't get it try watching "zeitgeist" and "zeitgeist addendum". I'm not saying Neil would agree with the latter but it partially helps to explain why the Bail outs comin but its no for me! and it not for you! Neil has done a brilliant job of documenting the outrage of hundreds of millions in our time!
I think people need to just take it easy, this is Neil Young we are taking about, not some hack. Look at what Bob Dylan puts out now, are some of you going to go publicly bash him as well. Everyone is entitled to their point of view but some of this is borderline ridiculous. I'll agree its not is best stuff nor will it ever be, his time has come and gone and I think some people just need to understand that. Neil is a legend and helped transform rock n' roll music and culture, have some respect.
I have studied American history for five years and the things I have learned have shocked me. This crisis is man made. My teacher told me 5 years ago that at the end of Bush's term there will be money taken out of this country similar to the Great Depression. Don't forget, that didn't happen over night and we are at the beginning of a long haul. You should thank Neil and the others for speaking out. Sitting at your computer, watching it go by won't save you. Read more about history to understand
Is Michelangelo's Pieta better than Da Vinci's Mona Lisa? Art is often a reflection of we who see it, experience it, interpret it, and taste it. When a monkey peers into the reflecting pool, a monkey stares back. Some of us need to EVOLVE.
obvious stab at itunes and ipods, yet Neil's entire discography is on itunes. i think Neil is a great artist but that's a pretty big contridiction on his behalf. with that said i have to ask Neil what is his point?
I think he means that mp3s sound bad, and we're just consuming whatever format the industry throws at us with no care at all about fidelity. It's not a contradiction to produce mp3s and sell them - that's the popular format right now. However, it sounds bad. What should he do? Not say anything?
I agree with that. You can still download it near-CD quality from itunes, most people either don't care or can't wait that long.
He's been at the forefront of getting his music on the highest possible quality formats, DVD-Audio and now his Blu-Ray projects. They're niche markets though.
Nah man. Mp3's are shit quality. The reason they're popular is because they are so damn handy. Itunes sells mp3's at 128kbps when the highest your mp3 player can play is 320kbps. Makes a lot of difference. Fuck the Ipod anyway, check out things like Zen or Cowon if you seriously like music.
Sounds to me like your shallow mind can't spot anything, actually. Apparently all it knows how to formulate are mindless insults that have no context to back them up.
Neil ! One of the greatest. Still ceative and keepin it real ! Thank you for using your voice to make a difference in this
world. I loved Neil when I was just a kid and I have to say that the content and feeling in your latest works have re-awakend my appeciation and respect for your musical genius and love of the music and the message. Lookin for Heart of Gold Blue Ray (before they cut off the power and repo the screen!) Hope you are able to pawn your guitar back SOON!!!
a very good track. some might say that the lyrics are trashy but they're forgetting the fact that neil has clearance to do stupid shit for the rest of his career
Neil defines ROCK music, even as a crusty curmudgeon who looks more likely to yell at kids to get off his lawn than like a rock star. YOU HAVE TO LOVE THIS MAN!! Neil looks like Captain Beefheart, and at his age, is beyond the point of caring. Yes, "There's a bail out coming, and its not for you!" We LOVE you Neil!
Everybody please stop downloading Neil's songs and start buying them again so he can pay for his electric Lincoln Continental and sing happy songs for us.
Every verse is a statement reflecting an assumed thought that some average person has somewhere in America - like he pulled them out of the consciousness pool and is singing them back to us. Then the chorus is a representation of what must be a pretty collective thought - thoughts in chorus with each other. It becomes a narrative of the times, sung by everyone. Neil is channeling our own collective worries (and hopes?) - stripping away layers of bullshit to reveal the truth.
Don't wait sixteen months, Mr. President O. Bring the troops home by May first. We don't want Bush's fucking war. Love the time bomb apple with the string fuse. This is a cartoon. Neil is a cartoon. About all we can do at this point is laugh, and pray to Saint Stupid. Shut it down Obama. Bring em all home right quick. Thank you kindly. Woodside guru ~ love ya.
I've been a neil young fan since his days with buffalo springfield - he remains angry, contemporary, tough and funny. One of our greatest artists, he even predicted Obama's victory three years ago with his song "Lookin' for a Leader." Keep rockin' in the free world!
STEELESTA, you obviously don't get the video. He's trying to show the psychology of the recession, and the bullshit bailout. The Bailout and the recession is bullshit. the corps, the media, and the government try to push the lie of a recession so that the people don't spend, the banks keep the money, and give it all to their friend in the corporations. Neil is writing about these bullshit liars. Maybe you are just trained to like crappy music, who knows.
Ehe creep's are not rational individuals but appendages to a system man created.. Meta-fuking-physical tools. Empathy is the form of understanding missing from the systematization of our labor forces. the only real direct conection.
2:02 I sure hope Obama sticks to his guns and gets us out asap. Be nice if the bail out went 95% buttom up to 5% instead of 95% "trickle down" to 5% ~cg5
Dang Neil, we are both getting old. What has not changed is my appreciation for your insightful music addressing some of the social issues of our time. You have put smile on this middle-aged man's face.
Current bailout boondoggle effort has thrown $8.7 T towards keeping afloat the Banksters & Wall St. Crooks who could not properly assess the RISKS structured in OTC Derivatives. Instead of insuring against financial erosion, their derrivatives are the cause of this FISCAL CRISIS, a BLACK SWAN.
btw, this song is more relevant than anything anyone is writing these days. Neil Young is a great artist, and one of the only artists willing to be real, and not some cookie-cutter for the record industry, afraid to make a statement.
Every "reviewer" who has trashed Neil on this song has not offered even a simple critical reason for not liking it, or any kind of dissemination. Just, "it sucks, blah!" These people have zero critical thinking skills, only bloated egos.
Let me get this straight. John Lee Hooker "wrote" a simple blues hook and made it sound great with his awesome sense of rhythm, and 500 artists have also written similar riffs.
It's a 3-chord progression that's been done by a million other artists, yet somehow this is Neil Young ripping off John Lee Hooker?
Get real. It's a very standard, generic blues hook. Everyone has used it. It's like accusing someone of ripping off Dylan because they wrote a song in G,D,C.
The reviewers are sure giving him a lot of flack for this and his upcoming album. I don't think the song is excellent, it's more fun if anything and that's probably what he's going for. He's done bein' all serious. Time for some fun before he burns out. If Neil wanted to make something spectacular, he would. He even admits this song isn't good in the song, probably has something to do with him not liking iTunes.
Fantastic Rockin tune NeiL, I've been a big fan since I was in high school, about 15 years now. I've just been watching all your stuff about the LincVolt and am now an even bigger fan. Thanks
My favorite thing about this is the slam against Apple. Mr. Young has been rightfully very vocal about the horrible quality of Apple download files. How did music quality go backwards? Plugging his Apple ear phones into an actual apple... "sounds like shit"...... A TRUE HERO OF MUSIC!
Went out this year...to salute the troops...but they're all still there...in a fuckin' war...its no good...whos idea was that? I got hope but you cant eat hope!
I wonder how Neil feels about missing Obama's inauguration since he is on tour down here in Australia and New Zealand. It's on live here at 3am Wednesday our time Neil if you read this.
Neil, have you noticed that a good proportion of your songs are about motion?? Read John Fowles' Journals, I think you would enjoy them. He was an author, you're a songwriter, he was English, you're North American, but in many respects you're very similar. Both very genuine and pure artists, producing art for YOURSELVES and having almost a (comparitive) disdain for fame and your fans. Finally Neil, the music isn't as good anymore, Briggs would have told you, no shame at all in stopping writing.
Shakey Shakey Voice......Nice Job Saw you in Detroit thanks for the extra songs and Wilco and Everest were great. Brought my 14 year old he loved it. Keep on keepin on brother.
After 40 years of living here in the US (LA and Nashville) and paying taxes accordingly, and working in the music business consistently, I had someone tell me recently that because I was not a citizen, I had my nerve having an opinion about American politics. Neil loves America as much as anyone and he has an absolute right to his opinion. Let alone he expresses it so enjoyably! Great track - yes, pretty reminiscent of Spirit in the Sky, but a groove is a groove, folks! Long live the groove.
If Americans like myself had listened more to what people outside of the country were saying, we would have avoided many of the mistakes of these last years.
So keep speaking your mind Rock, Loud and Clear!
And thank you Neil - your music has made a generation profoundly happy.
Everybody Knows remains one of my all time favourite albums.
true story: the other day my sister and her co-employees showed up at work where they were told to go home, that their arts funding was slashed, and their company closing down. no notice given. last night i spoke with my younger son, a circuit city employee working his way through college. no notice given... his job is over now too. my other son has a cool band; they pay to play & no one buys music.'there's a bailout comin' but it's not for you, it's for all those jerks hiding what they do.'
what the fuk ? ?? ? i'm pretty sure this sounds like my dear departed buddy ----> JOHN LEE HOOKER !!!! ---> now neil is ripping off the dead ? ? ? ? ? ----> BOOGIE CHILLEN !!
youre the best neil.. keep on rocking, i have all your albums, AND i passed through your boyhood town of omeemee this past summer on my annual bicycle trip.
there's a bailout coming but it's not for us!!!!!!!!! this is great fuel to burn for the collective conscience today. 'awesome. way to go senor shakey...
This Canadian just made a donation to 'The Bridge School', It's my way of giving Thanks too you and Pegi for what you do!. I Love this video so much!..TYNY
There's a bailout coming but its not for us...that's right on. How come AIG can waltz into Washington and pick up a quick 150 billion to spread around to their execs. And the rest of us are losing our houses. Thanks for telling it like it is Neil!
Is pure fun watching old Neil eating his red apple and singing at the same time while playing his air guitar. He's an awesome musician with great creativity. Keep on rocking in the free world until your power goes out! Long lives Neil Young!

Sorry, with the money the man has I expect more. Turn up the home stereo and sing into your webcam and you have Neil's video.

You obviously don't get it.

i think thats the point
Zoober0001 3 years ago
STEELESTA, you obviously don't get the video. He's trying to show the psychology of the recession, and the bullshit bailout. The Bailout and the recession is bullshit. the corps, the media, and the government try to push the lie of a recession so that the people don't spend, the banks keep the money, and give it all to their friend in the corporations. Neil is writing about these bullshit liars. Maybe you are just trained to like crappy music, who knows.

Okay, you do that, and post it, and we'll see if it's as good.

This is an important song. Those fuckers who ruined this country should listen up when Neil Young calls them "creeps."

Then you haven't listened to enough Neil Young.
tweck99999 3 years ago
Dang Neil, we are both getting old. What has not changed is my appreciation for your insightful music addressing some of the social issues of our time. You have put smile on this middle-aged man's face.
Current bailout boondoggle effort has thrown $8.7 T towards keeping afloat the Banksters & Wall St. Crooks who could not properly assess the RISKS structured in OTC Derivatives. Instead of insuring against financial erosion, their derrivatives are the cause of this FISCAL CRISIS, a BLACK SWAN.

Pretty sure John Lee Hooker didn't patent this, or any other riff for that matter.

Sounds like a Hooker alright! Still a pure classic!!

btw, this song is more relevant than anything anyone is writing these days. Neil Young is a great artist, and one of the only artists willing to be real, and not some cookie-cutter for the record industry, afraid to make a statement.
Every "reviewer" who has trashed Neil on this song has not offered even a simple critical reason for not liking it, or any kind of dissemination. Just, "it sucks, blah!" These people have zero critical thinking skills, only bloated egos.
tweck99999 3 years ago 4
Let me get this straight. John Lee Hooker "wrote" a simple blues hook and made it sound great with his awesome sense of rhythm, and 500 artists have also written similar riffs.
It's a 3-chord progression that's been done by a million other artists, yet somehow this is Neil Young ripping off John Lee Hooker?
Get real. It's a very standard, generic blues hook. Everyone has used it. It's like accusing someone of ripping off Dylan because they wrote a song in G,D,C.
tweck99999 3 years ago
I've never seen Neil like this. He's always so quiet and chill.
paradigmodeath88 3 years ago
WHAT!! You need to look him up with Crazy Horse
ComradeII 3 years ago
The reviewers are sure giving him a lot of flack for this and his upcoming album. I don't think the song is excellent, it's more fun if anything and that's probably what he's going for. He's done bein' all serious. Time for some fun before he burns out. If Neil wanted to make something spectacular, he would. He even admits this song isn't good in the song, probably has something to do with him not liking iTunes.

Everybody Knows remains one of my all time favourite albums.

true story: the other day my sister and her co-employees showed up at work where they were told to go home, that their arts funding was slashed, and their company closing down. no notice given. last night i spoke with my younger son, a circuit city employee working his way through college. no notice given... his job is over now too. my other son has a cool band; they pay to play & no one buys music.'there's a bailout comin' but it's not for you, it's for all those jerks hiding what they do.'

i wonder if ZZ Top ever paid Norman Greenbaum for that riff.

And Norman Greenbaum got it from Canned Heat.... AND THEY ALL GOT IT FROM JOHN LEE HOOKER!
