This movie was actually partly filmed in my hometown. You know that Bus stop they go to that is all active and has it's own diner. It's still there. But however it has become a VERY boring reststop nowadays. Oh, and downtown looks EXACTLY the same as it did years ago.
70s flicks rock! Jeff Bridges in this and King Kong. Clint in dirty harry, philo beddoe, escape from alcatraz. george kennedy in airport movies and geoffrey lewis in many of clint's movies including high plains drifter, philo's brother.
I love it, just love it. I adore both Clint and US noir movies from the 70s and this is just the perfect match. Jeff Bridges and George Kennedy were the cherry on the cake. I'm definitely going to buy the DVD as soon as I find it. To me it's trurly a classic and a cult movie although rather under-rated but,... who cares?? Thanx 4 posting.
again this follows my theory that every trailer, film or whatever movie from the 70s must include at least one car jumping/crashing/catching air. I'm going to make an X/Y graph soon I swear...the more movies from the 70s you watch, car crash scenes approach singularity.
@skootaboy1978 Watch "Gone in 60 Seconds" (the H.B. Halicki original-not the putrid remake). It is ALL car crashes. The 70's movie boiled down to the basics.
The trailer focuses on the crime itself, however, the actual fims far more, its really about friendship, loss and loneliness. Probably why it didn't do well at the box office as UA marketed it more as a crime thirller when it really is a whole lot more-even the cool music in the trailer isn't in the actual film so the tones completely different here-but I love the film and the trailer nonetheless.
@TheMasterNo6 Actually, the movie made $25 mil against a $4 mil budget. Not exactly Heaven's Gate. (Am I the only one referencing Michael Cimino in all this?)
This movie is definitely in the Hall of Fame for "Greatest Guy Movies Ever." I think this was the 1st movie I ever saw Jeff Bridges.....so under-rated....the scenes come alive when he's in front of the camera! Clint Eastwood....absolute legend.
@HarryMulholland Tarantino remade "Across 110th Street", set it in a shopping mall and retitled it "Jackie Brown". Quentin Tarantino is a bisexual abomination with a face like the "elephant man".
@KurtCantrell It does'nt make a difference who you were responding to, you stil did'nt make any sense. Those movies are nothing alike, and tarantino is an amazing director and writer.
@faffaflunkie it was his version of Rum Punch written by Elmore Leonard. He just made it a vehicle for Pam Grier when the main character in the book was a blonde..Bisexual? Really? How do YOU know this?
@mrgb46 Well what's with the "Across 110th Street" theme? And who sets a thriller in "The World's Largest Indoor Shopping Mall" (a point that's constantly made if you've ever been to Torrance, CA). If Quentin's not sucking dick I don't know what he was doing. As for his hideous face- Beauty is obviously in eye of the beholder.
@faffaflunkie He just used the song in the movie and why not set a thriller in a shopping mall? Big deal if he did.It worked..I could care less what he looks like, but it seems you are obsessed with his face and his looks.I just like watching his movies and hearing the dialogue..Since you seem to know a lot about movies(or what kind not to make),then why not make one of your own?
@mrgb46 I, for one, don't want to be reminded while I am watching that all movies are really just make believe. Please don't try to tell me that there is a black guy (where there are no blacks) dealing guns out of a condo in Manhattan Beach, CA and choosing to exchange hundreds of thousands of dollars with a tattooed convicted felon in a shopping mall changing room with security cameras everywhere. As for Quentin's dialog being reminiscent of "Elmore Leonard's"- that is just more make believe.
How could anyone not like American cars after watching this.

Red to the kid: go fuck a duck.
Goody sticks his tongue out repeatedly.
Yet Jeff Bridges wearing a dress, wig & makeup infront of the mirror: you sexy bitch.

Clint Eastwood's best movie ever - maybe in the Bridges top five.
Like that car dealer, he was in Prime Cut - tried to kill Lee Marvin with a sausage. He failed.

After George Kennedy punched him in the gut, he probably had internal injuries that just got worse as time went on and he died in the car.
