Idunno, it's just like they made a cool FPS game, and then someone at the office told em that no more FPS will be released this year, so they stamped "horror" on it quickly. It's like the game splits between 10mins of epic slo-mo shooting galleries, and then 3mins of tedious BOO-a-violin-cord and a girl runs around corridors.

So guess the story was what I expected from the first few flashback parts; science is evil et cetera.
