  • The ending gives me shivers EVERY TIME!

  • Great vowels and energy! Almost as good as our choir's version. ;)

  • you guys sound awesome. this is my third year in the acda/mmea. i wish they would let our high school honor choir do this song! it rocks!!!!!!!

  • I prefer Raffles Chorale's interpretation of this song more. Try checking it on on youtube.

  • This is probably my favorite recording. I've heard others and to me, the tempo just drags, especially near the key change. I dont think it was too fast at all, I thought it was perfect.

  • health careers

  • i love this song! i wish i wouldn't have been sick. i would have loved to be in this!

  • woot!!! region 9 houston bby:D

  • me too!!!!!!

  • this is an amazing song done by an amazing choir. too bad that most of the singers in this choir all come from the same school in houston, just like it always ends up.

  • Excuse me, that's not true at all.

  • They try out for area in the area I am part of, and in the last couple years most of the mixed chairs have gone to them. They are just a really good school for fine arts with really good directors.

  • @MrRaulDominguez yeah no high school choir is better than the TEXAS ALL STATE CHOIR

  • I'm amazed at the power behind this group. absolutely fantastic!

  • we just did this in new jersey allstate

  • why yes, yes we did :)

  • I was in the chorus! so much fun!

  • omg!!!! I am so glad i found this...I was a soprano 1 in this....this is amazing!!!!thank you whoever posted this!!!!!!

  • this is fantastic for an all state choir. and im not even from texas, and i know that you all have the best all state choir! haha. but seriously. great song. great choir. great performance. If anyone would like to hear an AMAZING recording of this cong, check out the Luther College Nordic Choir. It's not on youtube, but you can buy some of their stuff on itunes, and its on the everlasting god CD. They are the most amazing choir i've ever heard (i am so proud to go to Luther!)

  • hello mrs smith

  • The advanced choir at my high school that I'm in is working on this song right now and it is ridiculously hard. I can't wait till we get it down and have it performance ready 'cause it'll be amazing.

This choir has sooo much power :)

    I love it

  • It was a tad fast...I sang it in 2007 for Mars Hill College Music Festival...We did it a little slower but it sounded good anyway...I was and Alto 2

  • They did this in Iowa All-State about 4 or 5 years ago. I auditioned as a Bass 2, but didn't make it.

I also agree that is was a tad fast, but that's up to the conductor ultimately. Great recording, though.

  • I made the Men's All State that year so I got to watch this concert live. It wasn't Craig Jessop that sped up, it was the choir. But hey, it's an exciting song so I can kind of understand.

  • TMEA is such a huge honor to go to.

All state it extremely hard to make it into.

Region is hard enough, but then there is pre-area auditions, then Area then All state auditions. It is THE best of the best.

    I love this song, though.

  • amazing! voices are so pure and powerful!!!

  • ahh i love dr. jessup. i was in the missouri all state choir my junior year in high school and he directed. we sang this, as well as o clap your hands. i'm not sure what other songs the tmea sang, but you guys were fantastic!

  • I love the power in thier voices!!!...

  • really great job! my choir was going to perform this song last year but we never got around to finishing it.... its a bummer because when sung right, it sounds really amazing!!

  • WOW....lol umm hope you know ALLSTATE CHOIR in texas is like one of the hardest choirs to get in and FYI the LOUDNESS you hear is called POWER WITH THE VOICE lol

  • I totally agree. Texas All State Choir is the Elite All state choir, and the hardest to make it into, I should know. Making TMEA Mixed Choir twice has taken a butt load of work. Spartan, I am sure you were good, but we were better.

  • Okay. Except this video isn't here so you can brag about your high school's (which I guarantee is NOT better than ANY All-State Choir) scores on silly competitions that are way too easy to score high on.

The speed and volume of this piece are a matter of opinion. Maybe your choir director preferred it slower, but the Texas ALL-STATE choir conductor did not. Like I said, a matter of opinion.

And also, they sound AMAZING. Are you even listening?

  • i doubt any highschool concert choir is better than any all-state choir

  • ah-greed.

it's great to have a good high school choir.

but these kids are the best in the state. that's why they're there.

  • aww, i remember this. How sad, :(

I miss all state band. You get to see all of the concerts. This was one of my favorite songs the choir sang. As well as some song a little kid sang in that year. :(

    That was a good concert.

  • wow this is a great recording!

  • Great singing! But wow, y'all sped it up A LOT in the middle! It's cool when you can actually hear all the parts and all the words. ;-)

  • what is TMEA? ya'll sound great for such a big group!!! love the arrangement as well! good job! :)

  • TMEA is The Texas Music Educators Association

  • AH! we're singing this for contest. =D

  • wow...im shaking

  • This version is better than the DVD version in my opinion. I'm Part of the Gunn High School Choir in Palo Alto and this song has to be one of my favorite songs we have sung. I really like how the stomping actually booms unlike when we sang it. Good Job!

  • Hey! Not that any of y'all care, but i've uploaded the actual DVD version of this concert here on youtube, you can find the videos on my page!

  • @malchikcrazy09 I do.. Do you have all the songs of that year?

  • amazing man! i got goosebumps!

  • wow...that's so cool!

  • this is so awesome, i hope i get to sing with u guys this year, so far i made 1st chair for region and pre-area, region 22

  • this was so amazingly awesome

  • omg it would be so COOL if i made state! so far ive made 3rd chair in region and 4th chair for pre-area for bass 2s

  • damn

  • A wonderful time.

    A wonderful song.

  • man...we're awesome! lol

that was the best all-state year EVER!!

  • What I still can't forget about the choir was what good tuning we had.

Singing Ecco Mormorar in the practice hall. We were spot on pitch.

It was so nice. I'm this year will be just as great (counting on me making it again) even with the strange pieces dr snow has chosen.

  • Someone, I really need information!! Who was the director for the 2008 Women's All-State choir? She was Russian, that's all I remember, but I really need to know her name. I lost the programs!!

  • Elena Sharkova!! She was amazing!!!

  • wow. amazing.

  • i was 1st chair last year for district but i broke my leg two days before region so i couldn't go..and it was my senior year but this year most of my mentee's that i tutored made single digit chairs this year in region! im so happy with them! one of them is my cousin its his first year trying and he got 3rd as a tenor 2!

  • This is amazing.

  • the basses at the beginning so freakin amazing, haha its an eerie but awesome sound,

  • amazing

that was my favorite song out of all of the selections last year

    the ending was amazing

    good job

  • 12 hours is 1 hell of a practice lol. at leaast we sound good...right? lol

  • OMG I HATE U ALL STATE PEOPLE! I wantedto make this so bad asa junior this year maybe ill make it.....i did well last year it was just sightreading for pre area that nailed me..i had 4th char ratings and i would up getting 8th

  • This was really good guys! I'm not dissing my state, but I'm kind of jelous! Anyway, my all state conductor also conducted Texas a few years ago and said you guys rehearse for 12 hours?! Is that true?

  • yeah its tru. it was BRUTAL! but i guess it paid off!! :)

  • actually it was more like 23 hours bc wednesday night 2 hours, thursday 9 hours(3 hours in morning, after lunch, and after dinner), friday 9, and saturday 3 hours in the morning (we would have had a rehearsal after lunch but Jessop's gave us the afternoon off till the concert) lol so pretty much double wat alegnagogo asked lol and yes that is true bc i was in this group as a senior

    1st chair Bass 2 Area D Region 20

  • i had so much fun w this one all last yr.....

last yrs musiq was so much better then this yrs

  • wow soooo much consonance in the doodoodoo's i'm used to hearing like one doo with tonguing in-between but damn that was intense. and the stomping was ridiculous. structural damage to the risers/stage possibly? hahaha such a fun piece...

  • this is a difficult piece. eight parts at least almost throughout with lots of tonal and rhythmic variation. difficult to memorize. three thumbs up.

  • ah i was singing along the whole time lol. i have never heard the end tempo like that i like it but maybe a little too much emphasis on the penultimate chord it felt pretty drawn-out. but otherwise great. the whole thing seemed to accelerate a little which was nice, it keeps you on your toes, gives it direction. at first i thought it was rushing cause i mean it's all state people are bound to get a bit nervous but it felt comfortable and it had focus so i would say pretty perfectly executed.

  • this is one of the best songs ive seen performed

i cant wait to see all state perform Dan-u-el this year, hopefully im in it

  • wow, did you make all state last year? i was a freshman last year, i reeaally wanted to make it, but i didn't. :( but i love danuel, you're auditioning for texas?

  • yea, im auditioning for texas, im a sophmore too but this is my first time-i love danuel too:)

  • i know!!! it's so cool! really challenging, but exciting! if you don't mind me asking, are you a girl or boy?

  • TMEA IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN..... All the other ones, like ferseriously

if i dont get in this year ill be so mad

  • woo!

    i love it.

brings back memories... this song was soo much fun.

  • The Tennessee All State choir did this a few years ago... I love this piece SOOO much.

  • if there was one regret from not making this choir its this song

  • OMG my choir did that song in high school for a concert back like...4 years ago. It was amazing then and it's amazing now. What really makes me happy is the fact that our choir was half the size of this choir and we sounded just as big!! GO NCHS Varsity!! Hardest working choir in the STATE!! Woo!

  • It was so AMAZING singing with this choir and it was so hard but a great experience

    1st chair Tenor 1

  • Wow...

    They did so good.

It gave me chills at how great the diction and control they have.

  • So amazing. There tone is great. And their diction is very very good.

  • this is bad ass! i am definately going to make it next year. region was pretty good as well but not nearly this good.

  • It was an honor to sing in a choir like this. It is so hard to make it as a Bass 1, but it was definitely worth all the effort in the end. This was a great concert, and there were alot of inspiring singers in this choir. =]

  • we pretty much rock.

    go us!

  • I am so going to try harder to make State next year!

  • ya DATS WATS UP!!!! lol representing region XX and area D's 1st chair bass 2 for 2008 TMEA we rock and jessops was amazing and remember when he said " ya'll r the best all-state choir i have had the privilege to direct!" oh ya thats right lol

  • i was a little scared that the risers would break when started stomping....

  • I would like to make a call out to two of my bestfriends in this choir...

    Kendra Sherman and Colleen Dawes!!!!

You guys are my insperation and drive! I will miss you at TWHS Colleen, and Kendra... so glad I have one more year with you!

  • so i frikkin miss everyone!

    this by far was

    one of the most

    amazing things that i have

    ever been apart of!

    i hope

    everyone is doing well.

    tmea mix choir 2008!

    =]

  • this was so much fun to sing...i wish we could do it all over again...

  • amazing...i thought region was amazing, but this was an experience i'll never forget..

    soprano 1!

  • did you go to any camps that really helped you? I'm also a first soprano, but at the time of auditions I was still wrongly classified as an alto, so I didn't make it too far.

  • We were awsome, though this video doesnt due us justice, the quality is off. I just cant wait for my CD. Job job everyone, this was the best choir ive been in in life.

  • troll

  • I love this piece...and you all SANG IT!!!

  • WHATSS wrong with you it was awesome i also sang at that concert

  • Weak? Why do you say its weak? Its a piece full of strenght...yes its prob the weirdest arr. of this spiritual but also prob the best...just sayin...

  • ...the piece is VERY strong.

do you not feel the strength?

  • That was pretty much my favorite concert to go to while I was there.....it was awesome. I would've been in it if had not been for me making all-state band, but that was great too...

  • I loved singing this song!!

    Tenor I's Rock!!!

  • i agree im a tenor also

  • I'm a Soprano 2 in this choir. This was the most fun to sing because had totally forgotten about it after we sang Chichester Psalms. It was like the feeling you get when you wake up and think, "Ugh, I don't wanna go to school..." Then you realize it's a Saturday.

  • i know that feeling... it's tub

  • wasn't Dr. Craig Jessop the conductor here? He worked with Missouri All-State in January

  • I think we sang it a bit slow. I remember thinking, "seriously, how much slower can we get?"

    *end sarcasm*

  • i was in the men's choir and two of my friends were in the women's choir so my director hussled tickets. we sat in the third row. BIG mistake. not my decision. lol

  • I was SOOO in this choir!!! Alto 1 represent. And Craig Jessop was amazing! I learned so much from him.

  • yeah yeah alto 1!!

    :D

  • ugh... i wanna see them all WITHOUT having to pay for them

  • you don't have to pay...it's invitation only, then they let people in when all of the people with tickets sit down

  • I think they meant the DVD

  • this is absoulutely fantastic. you guys did an excellent job! i got through nearly 3 tryouts this year, and i hope to be in the texas all-state choir '09 and/or '10! wade in de water was my favorite piece this year. :)

  • can someone put all of them on here? PWEASEEEE

  • these are thw only two that i recorded....and i dont think anyone else recorded.

  • i think it's fair to say we dominated.

  • pretty much

  • haha we also sang chichester and come thou fount.

  • I LOVE YOU for posting this. The stomps sound like Cannons firing, its awesome.

  • I was in the Missouri All State Choir this year, also directed by Dr. Jesup, and we also sang Wade in de Water and O Clap Your Hands. What other songs did you sing?

  • Wade in de Water, O Clap Your Hands, Chichester Psalms, Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, Homeward Bound, Slava from All-Night Vigil op.37, and Ecco Mormorar L'Onde, and Gloria from mass in D op.86

  • yesssss. god this was awesome. :)
