  • It's hard to imagine that this guy also played Bull from Night Court.

  • Xusia remains on of the most effective and enigmatic used of magic in fantasy film. Why? Because he's totally "out of left field" - mysterious backgound, unknown race, capable of assisting with the wholesale destruction of armies, and a formidable opponent if not caught off-guard. You never really know the true extent of his powers - he can easily cripple and deal with multiple oppoents like the Cromwell, Talan and friends. You're never sure about him - there's no flash or bang. Just meanace.

  • This movie is so much better than it's horrible sequel "tale of an ancient empire"

  • @Lilja20 not sure what Planet you are from.......but they never made the promised sequel......

  • @MsBooda77 I´m from the same planet as you but i havn´t lived under a rock like you apparently have. The sequel is namned "Tales of an ancient empire". If you look in the text in the end of the move "the sword and the sorcerer" you will see this. And if you go to to IMDB you can read about it your self. And when your done that you can come back here and apologies for your ignorance.

  • @Lilja20 ok heres the thing you ignorant little cow......if you were a fan of the original you would remember the credits read ....."Look for the further adventures of TALON in Tales of THE Ancient Empire" not "Abelard...Tales of AN Ancient Empire" with Kevin Sorbo....where Lee HOrsley is so way down in the credits you can barely see him.....it was a RIPOFF and not the sequel promised.....obvious to any true fan of the original.......no no no...please dont get up....I'll show myself out

  • @MsBooda77 It´s the sequel live with it you nincompoop. Being in denial dosn´t change that. Same director and as you your self point out the lead character from the first movie is in the second one. Yes crawl back under the rock from which you came. And about the title what does the DvD cover say? Oh yes it says "Tales of an ancien empire" followed by the text "the sequel to the cult movie the sword and the sorcerer". Don´t let the door hit you on the way out.

  • @Lilja20 oooh that hurt...let me go grab a tissue,.....dont deny that this is a sequel...just not the one promised almost 30 years ago...were you even alive then.....sure call it a sequel if you want....Albert Pyun is the one in denial.....he didnt live up to his promise in 1982 and now we are expected to believe this cheesy vampire crap.....you yourself said it was horrible....why are you defending it? as for the door hitting me....flew out the skylight on my broom....biiiiiatch

  • @MsBooda77 You're the most idiotic cunt I've seen on here in a long time. Go back to facebook or whatever sad shithole you came from.

  • @IronRooRoo is that the best you can do?, Bitch....please!!! Take your Iron Roo Roo and stick it back in your mama's ass where it belongs...I'm sure she misses it.....

  • This scene has a lot tension and atmosphere. It sets up anticipation for Xousa and sets the tone for the rest of the film. Too bad the film didn't live up to its opening.

  • Pissed that the DVD is out-of-print, but since next year is the 30th anniversary (and Pyun is releasing CYBORG and a "Director's Cut" of CAPTAIN AMERICA on Blu-Ray), perhaps this will get released as an anniversary edition on Blu-Ray. One can hope.

  • Is that king the evil prince from The Last Starfighter?

  • I remember this film being so much better when I was younger. Now that I look at it, I see that it really was something to try and follow up to Excalibur; Which of course is the sh!# hands down. I mean a three bladed sword ?!? That thing was cheesy looking and made no sense. Who in the hell would wield such a thing without getting their azz killed.

  • wow! just reading a few comments i can tell theres a lot of old school people commenting lol. this movie was 1 of my favs when i was riding my green machine and reading Fangoria

  • What's the first thing Xusia says? "Voiiice"?

  • @TiniNormi He says "Rise".

  • I'm not 100% but i think this was the film i used to watch alot at my grans when i was really wee, she used to think it was weird i liked it but always stuck it on for me (when i say wee, i mean really wee! like 5 or 6!)

  • Xusia was actually an interesting take on the Sorcerer character... you are left to imagine form the twisted, diseased remains of Richard's men as to just what Xusia did to them which is far more effective. I'd love to see him resurrected again, and I'd alos love know what happened to him the first time - his life story.

  • @dkerris that is very true my friend. I find most of the new movies now to be garbage. The actors suck, the plot sucks, and the storys suck because all the movies seem to be about now are the effects which is nice for the young kids and early 20 year olds, but for us who were in the 80's it's a differn't story. I don't know if you followed the terminator movies, but the latest one was absolutly terrible.

  • @MidnightTrashh I agree with all you guys. Movies used to be fun. Even some of the TV movies were fun back in the day.

CGI should be used to serve the plot not be the plot. You can guess which movie I'm talking about.

  • Xusia scared the living crap out of me when I was a kid.

Say what you will but this belongs in at least the top 1000 greatest opening scenes in movie history.

The problem with this movie is that Xusia was too easily defeated at the end. I heard that Jules Winnfield gave his wallet to Xusia or maybe it was vice versa.

Props to "The Sword and the Sorcerer"!

  • This movie is SOOOO bad. Right up there with "The Beastmaster". But they were fun to watch.

But much more fun than most of the crap they release today.

  • @dkerris I personally found BEASTMASTER to be a much more pleasant and easier to sit through movie than this; and nowhere nearly as horrid. The cute ferrets were what really won me over about the BEASTMASTER. Sadly, this film is not just bad, it's excessively gory. I've seen better R-rated films where the violence isn't shown as violence for the sake of it.

  • @Turnajon

Not me, Beatmaster was ok for little kids and a family audience, but back in the 1980s they made films for adults and kids separately.

If you were mature enough to handle this that's cool, but know most of the film industry compromises and doesn't got all-out like they did back in the 1980s.

The violence is relevent in a film like this 'cause it's in a violent age...

  • Wow, this is far more amazing than its reputation would suggest.

  • I loved this film. I remember searching for it on amazon a few years back but the seller wanted a silly amount for it. A good post.

  • omg its the terrible girl from conan the destroyer, isnt she?

  • @Adeltraut No, she is not Grace Jones.

  • please post the whole movie
