Zeppelin made the correct(and only) decision to stop after Bonham died..The Who are in it for the money like KISS. No suprise the remaining members did the Super Bowl halftime show and you see Daltrey doing those hits of the 60's informercials lol. I agree with Townshend that they were nothing special at woodstock and I agree with Moon that Bonham was the greatest fucking drummer in rock history. Also the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for saying Zeppelin defined the 70's as the beatles did the 60s.
@spidf33 ...You might be right, but I saw The Who live several times and believe me, live they sounded just like this and better, their energy and quality was amazing. Not only were they good instrumentally but they sung unbelievable, all of the members of the Who sung, it wasn't just Daltrey. Togehter with the mighty Led Zeppelin, Queen, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath and Cream they were the best live bands that ever existed. I feel privileged that I got to see them all live.
@AKILEAS I as well brother... Led was the worst live..and they werent bad.. Floyd, Queen , The Who.. in my order.. but The WHO IS A POWER BAND..and you could hear them in Jersey Playing in Manhattan.
@AKILEAS Yes that is a major privilege. As I look back, I wish I would have gone to these, at least during the mid to late 70s, but I was concerned about the attendees' lifestyles. I will never be able to see Led Zeppelin, as I do not think they will perform anymore, and The Who still tours, but, it is fair to say that without Moon and Entwistle, well, you get the idea. God, you even saw Cream? Great!! Cheers.

wonderful, i am only 30 so i dont remember to much of the who, but growing up and getting into the 60's type music around 17 from watching mods and rockers it really did get me into something special, and the who are special.
didnt like hendrix on woodstock (and im a big hendrix fan), didnt like janis on woodstock, didnt like ten years after, didint like santana, but the who was magnificent as usual.
Great song by the Who... at Woodstock...However, their performance of this song at The Cow Palace in 1973 was the best, in my opinion because that performance illustrates the raw power and emotion of this song and I admire the Who continuing to play this song after Keith Moon passed out on animal tranquilizers.
The 60's and 70's were magical times. The music and the bands from that time period have never been replaced.I'm still listening to their music almost 45 years later. The only thing that's changed is my hair is white now my hearing is less than what it was but the music still get's me moving.Long live Rock&Roll
i couldnt imagine being a part of woodstock, its history and those people were there just to have a great time. and i would give anything to go see those people perform live. i mean you really cant get anything better then this. ugh beautiful
i was lucky enough to see them the last time they toured the tommy rock musical when entwhistle was still with us .. it was such a monumental time .. as i drank wine with them and their families. that is one memory i cherish
Sly and the Family Stone rocked the joint with that "I want to take you higher" soul funk and I gotta believe the Who, Alvin Lee and Joe were rocking along too.
But what are the chances now of one making such an encounter? Where could this "you" be? I'm sure there was a different world 30 years ago. I'm sure there were no such filters then as to make this endeavor unimaginable.
I Love woodstock... I was born on '82, though watching those videos, fashion, girls, attitude... I can't help the thought: "I'm more than thankfull for not having lived that moment..." and that's because, now I can live it over and over in high quality! ;), hahaha, If I'd been there, by now I'd probably be the owner of some shity bussines. There's been only one Woodstock and it Ruled!!! 99's Who?!!! :P
Transcendent! I first discoverd this in the late 80's as a teen when I thought the Beatles were the only ones who changed music. Angry, beautiful, melodic & grungy, the Who live beat anything recorded in studio by any 60's artist.
@QuizMania101 to be fair, there are very few studio albums that compare to live ones. that said the who were famous more for their live performances than anything whereas the beatles expanded music through the studio and complex song writing. there'd probably not have been a tommy without sgt. pepper.
I <3 this song but this def isnt the best era in music. The best era is the 80s rock scene, namely late 80s, when metallica was hitting their stride and gnr came out. but then again this is due to preference, seeing as im sortof a hard rock guy. But i think that we all can come to an agreement that todays music scene is horrendous and rock n roll is dead
to think that there was a time when the beatles, the who, led zeppein, joe cocker, jimi hendrix, janis joplen, and many more all were at the hight of there power at the same time!!!!!!!! god my generation suck, i wish i live in that time!!!!!!!!
According to a Pete Townsend interview, someone had slipped "L" into his coffee before this song set, so he had to play the whole night high on acid, which he did not like at all.
These people had never seen anything like the great Keith Moon before this performance. This and the show that Alvin Lee put on with Ten Years After were two of the most magnificent moments in rock n roll history!
@cinbrian28 Joe Cocker was pretty badass that afternoon too!! I Think those 3 bands were the best performances of the festival.CCR and Fogerty, put themselves down, saying they were horrible-- they sounded damn good to me!! The Dead are just what they always were--dead-- bungling about and tuning up onstage! I find that Selfish and just plain dumb. you all tune up together(or if you have your own techs)before note 1 .
Rock music you like, go ahead and join the channel of The Kobianz! We are a band that starts with their own music and would be an honor to have to check out our stuff and give us your comment .... in advance thanks for the support and do not forget to subscribe ..
i had Woodstock on a VHS tape - i used to watch this over and over as a 13 year old, pause the most visually exciting moment (around 4.05) take a photo of the TV screen, get the film developed and stick the prints on my bedroom wall! Long time before screen dumps and inkjet printers!
I'm 15 and a girl... and I would be proud if the music in 2010 would change and go back to the 70's .... I don't thik that I'm the only one cause Rock n' Roll will never die as long as children need to laugh and cry
@DvDPlaya Uncorrect. Among others, Creedence, (higher than Who) Airplane and Grateful Dead were paid too. (not to mention Hendrix and Joplin, solo artists).
Stereotypicallylame - I agree. They speed up and slow down 3 or 4 times, Daltrey is either sharp or flat for most of the song, and none of it matters. The propulsive, momentous power and glory of Townshend and Moon...they kick Richards and Watts ass every time.
Hi, we are a young band called Sludge, we love this music and we hate the popular music of today most of it sucks, if you want to hear a new modern young rock band come check us out, we'd be really grateful
I remember seeing the Woodstock movie and thinking... eh, this is OK. Then The Who came on and changed my musical life....goose bumps.... Live at Leeds has been the most played album on my turn table,, 8 track player, cassette deck and CD player. Fantastic.
@copsondonuts I hate all that 'music' that's popular right now.. I'm 16 but I can't stand techno shit and Lady Gaga and so on, I much rather listen to this! Wish I lived back then.. oh well
@WhiteHawk137 I completely! holy shit the music back then is so much better idk why music took a turn for the worse but at least we can still listen to this

And you see why they were the only band paid at Woodstock '69.

@DvDPlaya Uncorrect. Among others, Creedence, (higher than Who) Airplane and Grateful Dead were paid too. (not to mention Hendrix and Joplin, solo artists).
Read the book.

Wish I lived back then.. oh well

@WhiteHawk137 it wasn't all great. Some of it was terrible. But there's nothing like it. I'm so glad I was there.
