  • How can people say this is not practical in a real fight. It's all as effective as it looks. If you use it correctly it works. Using peoples weight against themselves and understanding the bodies balance is nothing new. It's used in MMA just in different ways, usually just in the wrestling. Example: If you lock up with some one and you are pushing them hard and they are pushing back hard, then all of a sudden you pull them towards you they will fall to the ground with ease (unless expected).

  • I love traditional MA but I really have to question how affective this style can be in a real life situation. I think your better offs with Hung Gar or definitely Wing Chun for sure

  • yea this form of style is a more traditional form nice n handy if your going do performances or stuntman for like fighting movies n some sort but really no good use in modern fighting liek you can learn some stuff that will help you in modern fighting thats no doubt

  • This looks cool. Too bad it's not very practical in a real fight.

  • i just noticed how much he looks like mr miyagi

  • I like this video because it illustrates how wrong people are when they rip on wushu vs traditional. Go to 1:50 and see all of the reasons why those people rip on wushu in a traditional form! And now I must gloat by quoting a wise confucian master:

"Uh Uh and if ya don't know... now ya know! Uh" (Biggie Smalls)

  • i shall take to the streets and perform these feats... lol

  • Damn, I was looking for kung fu books online and saw the Eagle Claw style and remembered that I was taught this a while back. I was really good but couldn't focus, (being 10 and all) Even though it was years ago its still a basic instinct to fight like that, lol. It's a great style to learn and if anyone who performs martial arts to look into it.

  • @TheGuitarkid15 I agree

  • Great Vid, mainly the last minute...

  • eagle claw is a very real fighting system. once one learns it an master the aspect an concepts, principles it is very effective

  • Remember I was here.Thai

  • great video

  • mma is better. that stuff looks pretty cool though.

  • @401poop mma is just mixed old styles, so no its not better. its just fighting.if u mix this with karate its also mma.so stop with the stupid comments.u mean cage fighting is better?makes more sense

  • i tink i taw dat old folk in an eagle claw movie

  • With all the martial arts styles out there you need only ask yourself one question.

    Does it work for you?

Its all very well respecting (and I do) this master and that master who have trained all their lives but lets face it we are all different and training in a style that does not compliment you may not be good for you or the style in question. Just move right on.

You should also think about the practical applications of your style and how applicable it is to your self defence.

  • was that woody hearldson in the red?? lol

  • which is better for handto hand self defense in combat? eagle claw or Wing chun?

  • Master Fei would be appalled at this display.

  • So you and General Fei are old friends?

  • i like any style that ends the conflict with minimum effort and quickly.

  • very cool, and rare style

  • This is awesome, I was just browsing random videos and stumble upon a video of my grandmaster.

  • mantis vs eagle mantis wud win

  • that's a lame comment,,, it's the individual NOT the style

  • I agree, plus there are different mantis and eagle claw schools. Still, from what I've seen, Ying Jow puts a lot of time into show gungfu, and sticking hands builds a superior hand-to-hand fighter. I vot efor Kwang-Sai Jook Lum southern Matis, practiced by the Chinese Freemasons in New York (Hung Ching, really just another tong.) What I've seen them do, I haven't seen elsewhere, and I mean internal styles too. Jook Lum has strong internal power! Master Mak (Mok Foon) is the best!

  • Extremely narrow minded comment. "Voting" a best master and comparing styles in in this manner is just an immature expression of insecurity on your behalf. No Disrespect to Master Mak. Southern Mantis is great!

  • @FaJingPower 99% the The martial artist and 1 % the martial art

  • THAT OLD DUDE I SO SICK!!!!! he just effortlessly pushes the other guy away everytime

  • I would like to know eagle claw 3 finger technique combo with tai chi in the same style. is there anything like that?

  • Three-finger Eagle Claw is from the Southern Shaolin; Northern (Faan Tzi Ying Jow Moon) uses the fingers all aligned for greater power. I never saw them separated, like you're talking about, but of course there is much I never saw. If it is in the system, then Shum kept it secret or never learned it, because I specifically asked him about this technique, and he said that was Southern Style, not his school of Eagle Claw.

  • eagle claw didnt help yue fei's army become undefeated!.....if anything it was his famous spear techniques...i find it hard they fought other armys emptyed handed..lol

  • Look at all the weapons in Ying Jow. Of course, the speer is the primary military weapon, due to its range, power, ease of teaching and use. All military forces teach hand-to-hand. Ther eis always that day when the weapons are broken. Even the best warriors are occasionally disarmed, often through capture or simple treason.

  • That old man at 2:10 is REALLY GOOD.

  • That's our Grand Master, Leung Shum.

  • Yes, people attack like psychos- especially soldiers I imagine which brings up the point that Eagle Claw was developed for war- a killing art, not a fighting art.

  • Grandmaster Leung Shum is a legend of Northern Eagle Claw Kung Fu!HES STUDENTS AND MASTERS OF EAGLE CLAW KUNG FU owe him a lot!

  • Ask him if the "Shums" were ever double-jointed in the elbows? my last name is "shum" and everyone in our family has double-jointed elbows allowing us to bend beyond the range of a regular human. ground arm-bars don't work nor does must of his elbow locking techniques..The double-jointed elbows allows us to throw punches stronger & faster with immense torque..

  • the vielder of the grappling skills is the one who is supposed to make the skill useful my friend. Thats why if you wanna have useful skills you have to work hard and you also need a teacher who can teach you. A well trained kung fu wielder will most probably beat up the psycho puncher

  • The Form looks great, but I would seriously like to see one of them in a real fight, though I know it's rare to catch on film. When people fight you, they're going to come at you like a psycho often times, with wild punches and full speed with anger and intent. I know from experience and it makes the average grappling skills useless.

  • The mix of eagle claw and tai chi would be of great benefit in chin na (grappling skills). However it is very difficult to get the grab on a psycho which is why I believe in a balance between training strikes and knowing the locks for infighting.Dont look for a lock But if the opportunity arises-Go for it.

  • I would agree %100. Take it if it's there !

  • I briefly trained under grand-master Fu Leung, and I can say from personal experience that he has no problem catching a full speed punch out of the air and applying any number of chin na techniques.

  • grand-master "Fu" Leung? Do you mean Grandmaster SHUM Leung?

  • No. I mean Grandmaster Fu Leung. There's not a ton of information about him online, but there is some.

  • thanks for the info... I'll check him out.

  • True. But if they try to grab you, you have a good opportunity to use grappling techniques. Plus you could always strike them to disorient them and then apply a joint lock.

  • To prevent controversy, its important to know that the style of Eagle Claw Master Shum teaches was passed onto him by his master, Ng Wai Nung who's master was Lau Fat Man. There are other lineages that may differ slightly and additionally there are even other Eagle Claw styles that developed completely independently. So to clarify and add to your statement..."as taught to him by his master, Ng Wai Nung".

  • Hmm..so many styles so little time!i wished I could do all the styles lol!!

  • i know how you feel i am practicing 3 at ounce

  • wouldn't wanna mug those guys

  • My Sifu was the man on the left at 00:38 he is an excellent teacher straight from the NY

  • Thank you for posting this, it is refreshing to see.

  • It is a give in that a lock may not work. Also many people's joints are looser than others or their pain threshold may also be higher. There is always a counter to a counter. Many of the forms contain them or they are practiced separately.

  • what if your opponent has a good energy with circling hand? what is the antithesis for someone who escapes chin-na locks

  • Many locks can flow into one another, and so it's fairly simple to move from one lock to another if u have a good claw on their wrists or pressure points.

  • This man is great. Now thats the real deal. Amazing fighting

  • Fucking awesome. That guy is the shit

  • This is like very much. It has a little of everything.
